there's being courageous (Martin Luther King), and then there's being repetitive (nathanlt)

has this guy convinced anyone of TO's malicious intent?

I'm only convinced by facts, and up to this point, nathan has failed to provide even a shred of any, other than TO's past transgressions, but they have no bearing on his actions as a Cowboy, and esp. when TO has gotten out of us what he's most sought after...money, and lots of it, provided he behaves

He has the right to his opinion...but I'm not sure what he hopes to accomplish with his posts here. I agree with him in principle as I too believe that Owens will eventually turn on the Cowboys and (if we are not careful) tear the team down. I'm just hoping we get one good season out of him before he goes off the deep end again.

The simple reality is that Owens is on the Cowboys and very few like that idea less than I do. But it has happened and so I will deal with it (accept the things I cannot change, as it were). I was a Cowboys fan before Owens was born and I will be one long after he is gone from the team. HE will not drive me away from the team I have loved most of my life.

I am protesting in my own way in that I refuse to spend any money on or wear Cowboys gear as long as he is on the team...and yes I DO fully understand the futility of that gesture. It is every bit as futile as nathanlt's rants against Owens but it makes me feel better...I suppose nathanlt's rants make him feel better.

Love that part in bold.

The difference is how you are both approaching it. I can respect your "protest" because it is not pointing fingers at others.

Nathan, in free agency, my opinion is that your conception of reality is fundamentally flawed.

So we are to never sign any former Eagle or 49er since they are the "enemy"? I assume this also means we are never to sign a former Commander or Giant, as well. Are the Steelers and Packers also included in this group?

Who CAN we sign then? This is why I asked if you were opposed to signing Deion Sanders in your last thread. He was, by your definition, the enemy and had hatred for us buried inside of him.

I just think this philosophy makes you look like you have your head buried in the sand. Guys these days love their teams, but they follow the money. TO, Deion and the likes are Niners one day and 'Boys the next. Do you really think TO is coming here hoping to doom us because he still loves the Niners or Eagles? Please.

I just think you're living on Fantasy Island with this line of thinking. This is a JOB for these guys. For you or I to switch our fandom from Dallas to Washington may be considered unthinkable. But for the players, this is a profession -- they're out there to do a job, make money, and hopefully have fun while doing it. They care about their teams, and in some cases, the team's tradition. But they'll say goodbye to one team as quickly as another one presents a better opportunity.

I mean, again, this is their JOB!! Let's not overlook that. If the competing company for whatever line of work you are in came along and offered you a salary double what your current company is paying you, would you decline it because you view them as being the enemy? Perhaps you would, but a lot of people wouldn't. And for these players, bouncing around from the Cowboys to Niners to Eagles is no different.

Sure, there's loyalty. But that loyalty ends the second the team stops showing loyalty to the player. Fans, in many cases, stay along through thick and thin.

I love these threads. Kind of a guilty pleasure. haha.

However nathanit, your story is...

COVER%20-%2005.08.jpg

Assume I work for Honda, then obviously Toyota is my hated competition (along with any other car maker). However, if Honda doesnt take care of me financially and I feel that the company doesnt suit me, pay me what I am deserved, or simply is poorly run. Than I will look for a better opportunity in my field which may mean turning to one of the enemies.

If Toyota meets my needs and expectations, then its an easy call to move on to the next company to continue to build on my career and establish the worth that I feel that I should be deserving of.

Dont get me wrong. TO is not someone I would want playing for my favorite team either and if Gibbs took this type of personality on his team I would think he sold his soul. Sometimes talent enough is not worth the potential headaches. The Cowboys took on this venture knowing full well what they were stepping into. They obviously feel they can handle the heat. They weighed risks vs. rewards and wrote Owens contract accordingly.

The biggest issue is the distraction. Every media guy will be asking players about TO. Fortunately for the Cowboys many players have pretty much seen it all over the years, so the media wont get what they are searching for. Unless TO acts out, which I really dont expect.

The D will love him because he challenges them and because there are a lot of younger players he will leave an impression on, that will most likely be a positive one.

The O on the field may be a different story. TO is coming into a situation with a QB that has the full support of the HC. A situation where the RBs have only known BP as a (NFL) HC. An OL where they may not respect TO coming back to the huddle whining. A WR corps that has been under Glenn and Johnson (who worked under the HC prior to this gig) and has already formed an opinion of their HC.

I really truly love this board and the people on it be they Commanders or eagles fans they are my brothers. I will not spend a dime on the cowboys since they signed owens but I will watch I will root and I will sure as all hell cheer his first and last touchdown as a cowboy. I love my team and no matter who is on it they are my team and one jerk isn't going to change that. If hitler was signed tomorrow I would still cheer him. the dallas cowboys are my team my family even since thej last 30 years of my life have been spent hand in hand with them feeling their pain and feeling their accomplishments. one man cannot and will not change my love for something that is so much bigger.

And thats what its all about bro.

You turn you back on your team and you turn your back on something that you have lived with and believed in for an eternity it seems for most.

I love the discussion and banter we have back and forth as rivals, but you guys know that I will be a Commanders until my dying day.

Loyalty is underrated. And unfortunately something that many people simply dont understand.

And Hos, you can respond. I know you want to. haha.

What just kills me is the guy who started this thread is Anti-TO basically because he "insulted" the Cowboys when he celebrated on the star.

Now he starts a thread nearly every night insulting all those Cowboys fans who are going to actually watch the Cowboys this year. He has tossed around words like sell out and such.

He has actually insulted Dallas fans way more than TO ever dreamed of when he celebrated on the star. You tell me who should be the guy that is despised? The one who celebrated on the star or the one who likes to insult Cowboy fans on a nightly basis? Hmm...

I know most of you think I'm just throwing a temper tantrum, but t.o. is going to tear the Cowboys apart just like he did to the 49ers and the Eagles.

What makes you think he's going to be different?

Deep down, he hates the Cowboys, like any 49er or Eagle, and is only over here for the money. He'll build friendships with a few of the new guys, only Ellis was there for the incident I'm not going to bring up again, and then, he'll pull the same junk he's done before. Claim the organization is classless, complain about everything he can and annihilate any locker room chemistry, which is vital to win down the stretch of the playoffs.

You heard it here, you can scratch out the next few years for all hope of winning with t.o., a self absorbed black hole (in the scientific connotation) of ME ism, absorbing all energy that he can from the locker room. He is a walking disaster to any group that calls itself TEAM.

A very large part of the reason I won't watch is that it is going to be a horrific annihilation of the team I enjoyed as a kid. Loyalty doesn't sit by and watch while this happens, loyalty gets ticked off and does something about it!

This is not a temper tantrum.

great point no one has ever said any of this before thank you so much for bringing this to our attention.... phew i am so glad i read this

I love the T.O signing. I don't see him being a problem. So can we agree to disagree and move on? I suspect I can, but you won't. If I was gonna quit being a fan of the Cowboys, it would have been over the Galloway signing, not the T.O signing. How often do you see a player like T.O hit the market w/ zero compenation to another team? He is worth the risk.
Above is Right
Galloway hurt more than TO ever could...

JJ said no one will burn this house down,...and Bill Parcells is an ALL incompassing black hole TO has no chance to Mess With our team...Also he wasn't wearing a Commander ,Giant's ,bengles,or Denver jersey to and from games last yr.How about an Irving....Your Weak ,...Nuff Said.....

nathanlt.... have a beer. have several of them. and chill.

so owens wanted outta loserland - san fran. he wanted to play for a contendah... so he raised a stink and caused the whole team to fall apart. he began to suspect he might at least be a minor deity.

so then, in his overzealousness to snag a ring, he signed a jicky contract with philly that included a huge signing bonus. he eventually came out from under the ether and realized they were Walmart-ing him. he raised a stink and it caused the whole team to cave in. dang he's just a powerful guy. terrell almighty.

now, jerry jones is paying him fair market value for a talent of TO's ilk. paydays won't be a source of resentment for owens. far from it.

from here on out anything can happen. but money won't be an issue. and the cowboys narrowly missed the playoffs.

the way i see it - he's either got enough left in the tank to make a huge contribution to the teams fortunes - or he doesn't.

so why not climb in off the ledge and let this little drama play out? not yours. the one that takes place on the football field.

You'd have to believe that this team is innoculated against getting damaged by TO. The guy really was divisive in two of his ten years, and in both situations, I don't blame him for being unhappy.

Now, how he reacted when he was unhappy, that's another story. But, after seeing that act with SF and again with the Eagles, if he really gets out of control, I can't believe to o many players do more than roll their eyes as he's escorted from the locker room. The real risk is that we could end up playing Patrick Crayton in a slot where we should have had KJ. I can live with that.
