Forget this year (just kidding)

Now that I have your attention:

This year has been house money. Do we want the Super Bowl? Yes. Does this team have as good or better a chance at it as any since '95? Yes. Did anyone predict this even before Romo was hurt? Not really. The defense was considered as bad or worse as the previous two years, and major injuries had to be assumed. Romo was a hit away from IR and we had *no one* behind him still. Fast forward and the offense is being led by a pair of rookies in the backfield and the defense has improved where it counts, even turning it on here at the end of the season. The team has avoided the injury plague ala 2007 (other than Romo, which is so far appearing to be a blessing in disguise), as even General Lee has remained steadfast and amazing the entire season. I will leave (it almost) unmentioned all the hate the coaching staff received after last years debacle, but this year has been a complete reversal.

I say all of that to say this: Regardless of the outcome of this year, the sky hasn't been more blue since '92! The team is young, the cap hits are friendly, and Jerry has been relegated mostly to comments to errant mics. Even if we don't win the Lombardi this year, many are coming to this core!

Nothing short of a Super Bowl is a wasted season. One great season doesn't guarantee one the following season.
How many Panthers and Broncos fans felt they were going to have a great season this year?
Probably a lot of Panther fans. Bronco fans? Most were really worried about their QB and their offense.

At least the Bronco fans I know were worried about this year.

That's a terrible comparison. Newton was still a bad passer last year and Peyton was retiring and a shell of himself anyway. Throw in the gutting of the Panther secondary and the Oline issues for both teams and you had a recipe for disaster. Absolutely no parallel to the Cowboys' situation.

Actually it is comparable. You never know from one year to the next what kind season any given team will have outside the Patriots. All you have to do is see how far last years Super Bowl teams fell.

You can see that Cam was never a good passer and Peyton was done. Dak is already better passer than Cam and isn't 40, and is locked up cheap. The Oline is young, excellent, and cheap. Neither team had Elliott, much less locked up for years on the cheap. The Bronco D is aging and the Panther secondary was gutted. So again, not comparable. Could the team get absolutely obliterated by injuries? Sure. But it generally doesn't happen and isn't the reason for the fall of any non-playoff team in 2016 that was a playoff team in 2015.

see what we get in a Romo trade and the cap savings on top of that make the next 2-3 year window look pretty damn good. Usual injury stipulation, blah blah blah.

As long as we keep on drafting well and we stay consistent with the coaches we have we'll be relevant for years to come.
This team has drafted so well under Will McClay he must stay whatever it takes. I wasn't big on Jason Garrett but it is clear being patient with him and his staff has paid off they have done a tremendous job of coaching up these players McClay and his scouts aquire. Its a great time to be a Cowboys fan again.

Not as good as '95, obviously.

But AS good a chance as '07 and '14. And clearly better than any other year since '95.

So his statement is accurate.

Yeah that's your opinion. I say it's wrong. History says it's wrong. We didn't have a rookie QB in 2014. So take that complete nonsense somewhere else.

There's a difference between saying the future is bright and assuming we will also have a great season next year. We're positioned to though, and beyond. We feel most like the Seahawks a few years ago. Just poised to be a problem. Great shape.

There is no next year in the NFL. So many times teams have thought they had many more chances to win and just never did. 1998 Vikings come to mind. Randy Moss was a rookie then and they had a 15-1 season. Packers after they won it all in 2010 looked to be a dominant force for the next near decade and never got back.

You have to capitalize this year. You never know what the future holds.

Dallas with a veteran QB and a better D had the same win record (and the 2016 team has one left to play) and the Pats were undefeated that year in the AFC with Moss and a prime Brady. Your nonsense is often funny but sometimes tiring.
