Those would be signs of physical toughness.
It's both. They guy has $55M in guaranteed money....he could easily use those injuries as an excuse to come out of a game or miss a game. He could easily look at that defense and decide to take a week off. He has a new wife and newborn. He plays for an outfit that has proven over the past 18 years to be a 50/50 outfit....yet he presses on.....pushes himself....holds on to the belief that this week will be the week.....this year will be the year....etc. He has the most game winning drives in the NFL since 2011. He lives with the burden of being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. He lives with the burden of knowing the team has no chance if he does not play at a high level. You tell me Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Kapernick have to live with that every week. Stick them behind center in Dallas and see if you think they are top 5 material. They have to make a few plays every game. Some with their arm...some with their legs. This offense is not designed to get people open. The throws are into tight windows with the defender often withing a few inches of the ball. It thrives with big arm accurate QBs...and big physical WRs that can win one on one battles. This is why Aikman and Irvin were perfect fits for this offense. This is why they had multiple different guys as the #2 option opposite Irvin...none of which were Pro Bowlers...yet Irvin still thrived.
Here's to hoping the new playcaller also brings a new playbook. This offense was never the right offense for Romos skill set. For him to take the beating he has over the years...for him to not have the physical tools Aikman (big, tall, big arm)...and still put up massive numbers....shows how tough he is.....mentally AND physically.
Romo is not the best QB in the NFL. But he has never been the problem in Dallas. You give me 53 guys with his ability, drive, and dedication....and we would have a lot more than 1 playoff victory over the past 18 years.
