The owners wanted a salary cap. Suck it up or eliminate it. I don't shed a fricken tear for any of them.

And guess who was the driving force behind the salary cap? Yep, our fearless leader apparently feared having to resign all those guys from the super bowl teams. His solution? Lets cap player salaries! Ironic how its completely backfired on him. :(

Dak was 4th very similar to Hurts/Fromm type, we went 13-3 .. its not always a failure, we have a strong run game, solid line, good targets, this new staff has all offseason to adjust..like I said a journeymen plus a draft pick to get this started..
funny how people act like no one else could have succeeded in 2016 or now. Team seems very well set up to support a young or mid level QB.

It is not always awful, it just fails about 2/3 of the time, in the first round alone and it gets worse the later you go. If the Cowboys start a journeyman in the vein of Keenum or Mariotta, you probably could get them for a reasonable price, granted they are about the only ones you could get for a cheap deal, and with them you are probably looking at around 6-10 if they start. However they will probably still be better statistically then whoever you draft in the first round (remember MM was the 2nd pick in the draft so do not expect much from a highly drafted QB). If you figure that it will take 2 or 3 tries to get a solid QB if you pick in the first and give them 3 years to prove it, you are looking at about 4-6 years of not being a contender which means also having to replace most of the current roster in that timeframe.
except when its not..lets stop acting like moving on from Dak sets us back 6 yrs LOL he started as rookie and was RAW, you out a great PLAN, Run game, solid blockers and weapons around even an avg QB you can be successful..pushing the narrative that you have to pay an above average QB elite money in order to not fial is why QB market is straight POOP right now.. Daks not worth a penny more then the 32/33 he was offered.. now the word is maybe 120 guaranteed and 37 a year..OMFG Brah this is what sets a team back paying Dak who needs more weapons' then an elite QB an ELITE deal..

you remember when Rookie Qb deals were killings teams and they finally changed it, now paying just any qb next man up huge deals is the next major issue that is killing team caps..

some team some GM and owner need to reverse this trend..paying dak more then any QB out there right now is STUPID..

exactly FEAR is being spread acting as life would be over not retaining an above average QB unless you pay his ransom of 37mil.. its funny they are using the 40 to 37 numbers to desensitize us to when they settle on 35 more then RW money we all feel better..

If Dallas would get serious in negotiations and actually use other QB's as leverage then Dak would take less.

He doesn't want to lose being the QB in this market.. All Dallas has to do is let it be known if he doesn't sign for what they want that they are willing to move on.

Start the Brady rumors.. Start the Derek Carr / Stafford trade rumors... Get it going.. Regain some leverage in this negotiation if you really want Dak.

No team is going to trade their 27 yr old franchise QB. He’s dominated his draft class, rookie of the Year, has a great TD to int ratio and came within 1 yard of setting the all time Cowboys passing record of the likes of Lebaron, Meredith, Staubach, Morton, Aikman, White and Romo.
yes it can happen and wont be surprise.. Dak is Jekyl and Hyde he puts up YARDS and wins you speak about against poor competition or on every blue moon.. when the big games come down the stretch like the last 6 of this year and good to great defenses line up Dak goes back to be the very 4th round pick he was...

lets not get that twisted and lets stop living in 2016 last 3 years

9-7 2017 had ugly stretches but lets not stay there maybe other issues caused that 4 game awful dak to pop up
10-6 2018 we start 3-5 was it awful dak needed help again we got lucky brought in Amari, new OL coach made some changes landed on Zeke again and made a year of it but...no big game to end season
8-8- well the train left on Amari when hes not there Dak folded like cheap tent and this time I watched games where it was DAK himself and not the lack of coaching or talent that lost a lot of close games and not once even down by 2, 4, 7 etc etc at halftime could Dak lead a team to one or two victories that save our season..

this is the issue he wants money like the greats but if you evaluate him NOW and on the slide from 16 to now..

Hes maybe the 10th best starting qb in the league MAYBE.. yet you retain him at all costs because he puts up yards and good games against bad teams ONLY..?

I like Dak woud like him here but hes not worth a penny over the 32/33 the DC have been offeri g him he shouild sign for that and at 6yr team friendly structure..it is who he iis and i can care less aboiut the MARKET..Hes a Ponzi scheme waiting to collapse at a market setting deal..

you are being brainwashed by the system that says this is the way ti is VS relaity, i luv my DC and I like Dak want him here but not for that..No way no how..

Since that has gone into effect though 2/3 of 1st round QBs have been terrible. You get a first round pick at QB on the above average outcome is you are starting Mitch Trubisky and the falloff from there gets ugly in a hurry. The reason people say 4-6 years is because on average you will draft one, he will fail for 3 years, draft another, fail for 3 years, and then find the franchise QB. So 3 first round picks and 6 years later you are right back where you started.

One former NFL agent set a target price for Dak to eclipse $100M in guarantees
Joel Corry is a former agent that does a lot of work in the salary cap space these days. He has his finger on the pulse of contractual numbers and can generally foreshadow what types of deals are coming.

Corry put on his thinking cap and churned out a target price for Dak Prescott’s potential deal with the Cowboys. If you were wondering, yes, Corry does have Dak returning to Dallas, and with quite the sizable deal.

Contract Package: $150 Million/4 Years ($37.5 Million Per Year)

Overall Guarantees: $120 Million

This article is a nice read at: www.bloggingtheboys.com

I've heard of most of the top agents and I've never heard of Joel Corry. There must be a reason that he's a former agent. The first thing i thought of is the saying of teachers teach and people that can do it, do it.

100m, does not seem like much of sticking point. His Sign-on will be at least 50.

I dont see 32/33 with 110 guaranteed over 6 years LOSING LOL thats the issue..wants vs realistic deals this market BS is POO and has to go..all QBs worth their salt will get a 3rd and sometimes 4th deal..they are looking at now vs realistically IF YOU PERFORM WELL YOU WILL GET PAID FOR A VERY LONG TIME..
I do believe dak and his agents are NOT confident he will get better and this is it, is why they are playing hardball.

Honest question,

Do you think Dak would be asking any less if he had made more money on his rookie deal? My opinion is that he would not.

no. My response was more regarding what poster I quoted said as far as “what if a player suffers a gruesome injury after being paid”

What if they suffer a gruesome injury before being paid?

Imo you can’t/shouldn’t cap earnings while already having a rookie wage scale. Can be one or the other (I prefer neither considering the hundreds of millions owners are raking in) but not both.

They overpaid for the RB position.. That's what they believed in so build the team around that position.

Oline, RB, and a QB that can run the offense and not make a lot of mistakes.. Just don't pay that QB like he is elite.. Simple..

Our success doesn't come from the QB position.. It's when Zeke is rolling that the Cowboys are "great".

I disagree with everything you said concerning Dak. It's a BS excuse about how he performed against weak or strong teams. The WHOLE team was part of that. And which QB wins consistently without a legit #1 or even #2 WR? None of them. Not even Brady. All the experts say Dak is a franchise QB it's just ignorant fans who disagree because some talking head on BSPN says something negative. So I'll take people like Troy, Jimmy Johnson and McCarty's word over someone on the internet.

You're entitled to your opinion as am I.

OR TAKE THE WORD OF NO WORDS, NO DEAL, HES AWATING THE FT BECAUSE HIS OWN TEAM HAS OFFERED A FAIR DEAL AND HES DEMANIND MORE...More then he deserves..way more..

what I said is true and if it weren't he would have been signed already, hes not and Jerry is an emotional owner , hes loyal, hes pays his stars he truly believes in and is typically more then fair in his offers and like him I agree 32/33 over 6 years and team friendly is more then fair for a QB lie Dak RIGHT Now...its true because go back to all the games in NE, BUFF, CHI, even the rams game where he allegedly was hurt and not been needed, and then the 2nd half of the philly game those are some examples, not all, but watch closely he had time , OL was blocking, receivers open and Dak simply forgot how to set his feet and throw accurately when the heat was on...IDC dont sell me his accolades on YARDS etc

in Goal line, redzone,. and when he was truly leaned on and was needed in these big games, he was BAD.. he was throwing behind WRs, to the wrong read, etc etc.. we all saw it yet you somehow you blindly deny it...

Dak is this you, is this your agent? you sound like part of their big money strongarm team.. acting as if we all dont have EYES..Ive always supported dak made excuses et cetc always seemed to be and excuse , IMO this year those games I watched like on Thanksgiving, no excuse he just couldn't get it done when pressured..Most good QBs in this league with time and less pressure can connect to open WRs, thats not special, its the QBs that can connect when they dont have as much time, or om the run, or in a tighter throw... Dak failed in this scenario many games this last season and I saw it.. he became a ball chucker vs a QB, just letting balls fly no matter where they landed when pressured.. thats a straight RED FLAG..

this separates the good from greats.. he was below avg to JAG in these situations , just an average QB.. not saying compared to the bottom 16 but compared to the top 10 the truly good to great and then the tp 5 Elite ..

he wants to be paid like these guys but was more like a Carr or MM Winston all those guys are in Daks Tier, you can argue whos better out of them but they ALL are in the 2nd tier . how you rank them is moot..DAK DOES NOT DESREVE TO BE THIS DEMANDING TO POO POO THOSE DEALS.. those are very fair..

they wont send him to the poor house...IF he out preforms his 32/33 deal in 3yeras jerry will and we know he will tear it up and give dak a new deal for much more..

He is not going to sit out. He will just wait to sign the tag until the end of training camp, lose 0 money and you basically had no offseason program because the new coach could not work with the QB at all and the QB could not work with any of the players. You then are in the exact same situation next year except his leverage is now higher and the contract is now higher.

You can do the double franchise tag method and let him walk for nothing, but all that means is in 2 years the team has no franchise QB and the Cowboys will probably spend another couple firsts trying to find one and by that time you need all new pieces.
He will not wait until the last minute to show up, there's no reason to if he intends to show up at all.

They would not let him just walk in without any time in the new offense. They would either remove the tag or make a trade. Any team that would let the QB in a new offense sit out is beyond self destructive. And all he's doing is punishing the team, coaches and players, for being tagged. A really bad look for a guy with endorsements.

How easy do you think it would be for pissed off Cowboys fane to organize a boycott of Prescott's sponsors? It would take less than two hours to set up an online boycott with every sponsor with address, web site, contact info and there are enough pissed off people already to pile on and have some fun.

They CANNOT trade him unless he signs the tag... period becausehe isn'ta Cowboy until he signs so he picks where he goes. Dak makes so little with sponsors compared to this contract that its simply worth risking. Plus every sponsor knows this always blows over.

As for not showing up, he isn't under contract so he isn't required to show and of you pull the tag, he goes and signs a 1-2 year deal somwhere for 30m with the guarantee of no tag and breaks 40m and the Cowboys are irrelevant for the next 5-6 years.

I think this is a very simple situation answered with one question. Do they think Prescott is the guy that can take them there? If yes, get it done and behind the team and move onto the next issue. If no, let him walk and work toward getting the best one they can in the draft.

Forget FA, even Bridgewater wants 30M and he'll get that from some team.

Tagging him doesn't really do anything but create friction and in these matters, this can get personal, not business, rather quickly and this is a team with talkers.

Realistically, does anyone here think they can move up for, what is also a risk, Burrow or Herbert, or take Tua and wait a year? All 3 are risks and the only positive is that you aren't paying them 30m+.....yet. And the team loses draft capital that is desperately needs to fill out the team.

There's a 2nd question to ask. What is it keeping them from getting to the NFCCG or SB? Is it the QB? Or is it some other area that they need to address? With the year and stats this QB had, I would look elsewhere for the real problems to address.
