I'll take a stab.sonnyboy;2190846 said:I wouldn't. The Racialslurs were better than the Cowboys in those two seasons. It's unfortunately that the only two times we met in the post season, the Racialslurs were better.
That brings up a good point. I wonder just how many times in the last 48 seasons the Racialslurs have been better than the Dallas Cowboys.
Without looking I'll guess they've been better 16 times. I'll give us a 2-1 edge in 48 seasons.
Anyone care to do the homework?
1960 is the only year the two teams were not in the same division. Both teams stunk in 1960, the Skins were one game better than the expansion Cowboys. 1982 also does not count because the strike caused divisions to be disolved and The Commanders were 1st in the NFC and Dallas 2nd.
From 1961 through 1966 the two teams were in the NFL East. Dallas finished ahead of Washington in the standings 4 years, Washington ahead two years.
From 1967 through 1969 the two teams were in the NFL Capital Division. Dallas is the only NFL Capital Division Champion ever. They won the division all 3 years.
After the 1970 merger both teams were in the NFC East until 1981. Dallas finished ahead of Washington 10 times, and they finished ahead twice.
1982 was the aforementioned strike year, no division but the Commanders had a better Conference record.
1983 through 2007 we were back to both teams in the NFC East. Dallas finished ahead of Washington 11 times, and they finished ahead 14 times.
That means Dallas has finished ahead of Washington 28 times and Washington has finished ahead of Dallas 18 times. Plus the two times they were not in the same Division.
Dallas has 20 Division titles (3 NFL Capital, 17 NFC East). Washington has 6 NFC East titles, plus the NFC title in the 1982 strike year for 7 titles.
In 1993 and 1994 the Cowboys won the NFC East and Washington was a cellar dweller. There has never been a season where Washington was the Division Champ and Dallas scraped the bottom of the Division barrell. Both teams have been dead last 4 times.
If you calculate the average finish of the two teams beginning in 1967 when they were in 4 or 5 team divisions, the average finish of the two teams is as follows...
Dallas average finish...2.10
Washington average finish...2.67
