NFL's 3rd all-time leader in receiving yards with 15,934

The only current WR in striking range is Julio at 20th with 12,896

TO had the freaky ability to get 5 yards deeper than the deepest defender. On numerous plays Romo would uncork a frigging BOMB that went above the camera viewing angle, only for it to come down in view in TO's hands 5 yards ahead of the defender. I just don't know how TO did that! It was awesome.
His 3rd gear was remarkable

The challenge of the older athlete is not so much game days.. It's the days in between. Because the body takes so much longer to recover between times of getting beat to hell once a guy reaches a certain age he pretty much has to stand around all week between games just to be half ready to play on Sundays. And even if you take the entire week off between games, eventually the cumulative effects of the punishment of NFL football will make it so you're not even able to perform on game days because you're still recovering from the previous game. I have no doubt that T.O. could go into an NFL game and run 4-5 routes right now. He would then need the next 20 minutes to recover. If he got taken to the ground all the little bumps and bruises that he used to shrug off in a few minutes at age 30 would stay with him for days. But because he's a tough old football man he would take the beating and still suit up the next week. He would be able to do this for maybe 5-6 weeks before he would not even be able to get out of bed on Monday. He would lumber around practice on dead legs all week and then look like he was 80 years old on game day.. and the team would release him.. Father Time is undefeated. T.O. needs to just accept it.

TO was maybe the best receiver I’ve after seen after the catch. Just an absolute monster.

Dez probably would’ve been right there with him as far as Yac but Jason Garrett was too clueless to do anything but make him run 9 routes all game.

Owens was a showstopper though.

I hear ya man. Loved to watch the dude run.
Champ Bailey had been traded from Washington to Denver and still in his prime. T.O. caught a simple bubble screen and took a couple strides to kick it into second, then by the time he hit third, he had left Champ.

Something about watching those large guys with speed run.

I am a big fan of watching a lot of running back Eric Dickerson's old runs for that same reason. He was so big, fast and smooth. Like an oversized gazelle when he ran.

People had to take almost everything TO said with a grain of salt even when he was playing, so I have no faith in his claim that a team has expressed interest in him at age 47 and a decade removed from his last NFL game.

I would also be shocked if he ran a 4.4, but admittedly he was always a physical freak. There was a story a year ago that he ran a 4.4 racing against Tyreek Hill, but this Sports Illustrated article casts doubt on that …. https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/20...ecially,far off from what he ran against Hill.

Champ pulled his hamstring before he even got going

I mentioned in another thread that I know a young man that just did a photo shoot with TO a few weeks back while TO was training. The pictures are phenomenal. The man is a beast at any age and I have no doubt that he could play right now if given a chance.

I would actually love to see him, as an old player, buck the trend of this being just a young man's sport. However, it's really, really hard. When you get older, you're just not as durable. I remember a few years back, Herschel Walker was considering playing running back for a team at age 54. He's kept himself in great shape, but you just can't recapture that youth no matter how fit you keep yourself. I would love it if something like this could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't know how to link it...but my friend's Instagram is mcfunkmaster. Can check out the videos and pics he took. TO is ripped.

He won’t get a shot but if there was one athlete in the history of the sport I would not bet against it would be TO.

Dude is just a different type of athlete.

This statement is 100% correct, freak of nature if there ever was one. And the part about “was told to stay in shape” is just TO being TO. He will never play in the NFL again, way past his time!

He was Jerry's biggest mistake, bringing that loser in cost us Parcell's and probably a super bowl.

Please come back so you can be used as a tackling dummy...

Give me Amari. Gallup and Lamb over cry baby anyday.

Micheal Irvin was better than that selfish trash...Irvin has 3 rings to prove it. Irvin was well-loved by everybody.

Owen's teammates couldn't wait till he left the team...

Staying in shape means nothing. Athletes do that year around even after they play. Can he endure a season and all that comes with that? How are his other skills? If all it takes is being in shape to play in the NFL, the talent pool to pick from would be much greater.

We could've used a healthy TO for those 2007 playoffs.
Dude was a beast

I'm sure the man will be in good shape at 70, but he was starting to get regular, nagging injuries even 15 years ago in his early/mid 30s
Very true, I want to say that TO played that Giants playoff game with a very bum ankle. That was our freaking SB year but the GODS said otherwise…
