Franchise QBs

Asbsolutely.

However, if you're not interested in evaluating individual players, there's no reason to even enter those type discussions. And just because winning is most important does not mean that other facets shouldn't be discussed.
Yep..

Fortunately individual recognition like the HOF and Pro Bowl don’t use winning as the only evaluation.

Yes, the point is -- In Bortles' best year, Dak was better in his worst. By quite a bit. And Bortles almost went to a Super Bowl. So, I'm optimistic. He can grow. And he's already good enough

Defense. The average guys who won a Super Bowl had a great defense. They are only good enough with that going for them. Otherwise these QB's are 8-8 at best. I am not talking about Dak here, just the also ran QB's who have the benefit of the other side of the ball.

I think when you look at Bortles he needs everything around him to be perfect for that team to be good. That sounds familiar!

The average guys who won a SB also made big time throws and elevated their game under pressure. Everyone says Eli had a great defense but he went on a roll when he got into the playoffs. He threw like 8 tds on the road through the playoffs.

8 TD's in 4 games isn't all that many.

I assume you know this, but....
Not many people anywhere outside of Jacksonville think Blake freaking Bortles is a true franchise QB

I agree on Dak.
Let him grow.

But to be fair and honest, many of those with worries are basing it on 2017...the most recent data.

Few QBs in the whole league had more similar statistical seasons last year than Bortles and Prescott.
They were incredibly similar in passing, rushing, TD-int differential, total yards, int rate, etc, etc, etc.
VERY similar in 2017
derek carr did and he was in the Probowl..fact..Dak may have had down year but it was NOT as horrible as people are making it out to be..

And yet Fournettee faced stacked boxes 48.5% of the time compared to only 35% for Zeke. I thought deep passing was supposed to back the defense off?

I don't think anyone is afraid of Dak or Bortles when it comes to deep threat though.

I think they plan to lose a few here and there... but know it isn't like Brees or Rodgers is back there.

Wow...agree....Derek Carr had no business being in the Pro Bowl last year...even if he was a replacement player.

Mark Ingram faced stacked boxes 42% of the time, 7% more than Zeke. Did Brees not scare anyone last year?

Manning had a nice run in thise 2011 playoffs.
He got on a roll.

His longivity has afforded him a lot of chances.

He also has FOUR one-and-dones in the playoffs, where he played truly horribly.

Two rings though.

Feast or famine I guess

Sadly, both aren't here anymore ...
Instead Garrett put Kellen Moore, a guy who Dak beat for the starting position . Obviously Dak KNOWS he is much better than his 'new coach' .

How can he learn ?

I tell ya ... Garrett is pure trash as HC.

Lol well u aint lying, but sometimes the best coaches weren't the best players. Guys with elite talent cant necessarily coach how to have elite talent. In this case though it seems like an akward fit when the starting qb is the one that pushed the qb coach towards retirement.

I was scouting some Jaguars cause they apparently have a deep Line and now might need, say, Hurns back -- trade baby! it makes too much sense, but anyway...

I came across a Bortles post, which apparently is a very common debate similar to our Dak debates. The author wasn't pro-Jake but did say he improved last year and is their franchise QB.

Here was his bullet points (stay with me)

  • higher completion percentage (60.2% was career high)
  • fewer interceptions (13 was career low)
  • lower INT% (2.5% was career low)
  • higher quarterback rating (from 78.8 to 84.7)
  • higher QBR (from 42.8 to 55.5, a career high)
  • fewer sacks allowed (24, a career low)
  • career-high net yards per pass attempt (NY/A) and adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A)
  • reduced total turnovers (INT's + fumbles lost) from 22 to 16 (a career low)

Now, let's think about our similar Dak debates. Dak's worst year crushes these numbers. Bortles is an inaccurate turnover machine, who doesn't really threaten with his legs. Dak's best year makes this look laughable. And this was a team on the brink of the Super Bowl. And a guy who has much more experience and higher draft pedigree.

I say we let Dak grow, and thank god we actually have a franchise QB. Not so sure about Bortles.

lol we r all getting bored
