At this point in the year, it is clear that Frederick alone makes this a lot better team than Floyd would have. Whatever we get out of Williams is ADDITIONAL gravy at this point.

So long as Frederick is a player, it was the right choice.

This team needed interior offensive linemen more than defensive linemen.

And there was a reason Floyd was slipping. He didn't make that many plays at Florida in relation to his athletic ability.

I agree, at this point with Frederick playing in 1 preseason game, out of a total of 1, that he's a better pick than Floyd who has played in a whopping 0 out of 0 preseason games.

*note* opinion may change after another preseason game.

Considering both are healthy, have to like Frederick for the Cowboys.

Yet another example of why teams Draft for need.

Frederick being the starting C from the minute he was drafted and showing it on the field in practice and wherever else is what makes him better. While Floyd hasnt even broken into the starting DL of the vikings which isnt strong to begin with at DT. could that be because the vikings have found out how short Floyds arms really are? Vikings have Kevin Williams and who else? Thats right nobody. But Frazier was reported as calling Floyds posistion irrelevant. he said he would be on the back end of the rotation. Not a whole lot of confidence there if you ask me.Floyd is going to be a bust with them trex arms

Well before the draft, I thought that Center was the #1 need for this team in the draft. You can get Guards and Right Tackles in Free Agency if necessary, but quality Centers and LTs are very difficult if not impossible to get in Free Agency.

That is one of the reasons that Parcells drafted AL Johnson in his first year with the Cowboys.

Philosophy wise I want to take the falling guy that is high on the board. But when the DC&DL coach aren't as high on the guy as your scouts I can see going for the trade down and take the greater need. Now if it was a Randy Moss type guy falling then you have to take them. (I'm not talking about WRs, but caliber of player)

Kiffin and Marinelli both seemed lukewarm at best about Floyd. In that case you do not draft him in the first.

i'm a pretty big frederick fan as some may have gleaned from my hidden praise, but this is just a tad of a reach considering we have 1 game vs. 0 games and i've not even heard what kind of camp floyd is having.

don't want to either. 2nd guessing hindsight gets old faster than left out bread.

What part of "at this point in the season" did you fail to consider in your reply?

The OP's claim may be true, but not due to anything Frederick has done. It's due mainly to the depth the Cowboys seem to have along the D-line.

Isn't that a factor in the accuracy of my original post?

I'll be happy if Frederick ends up better than Pugh considering how all the pundits lauded the Giants pick simply because it was Jerry Reese making the selection and we got bashed for Frederick just because Jerry was making the selection.

Frederick was a "just what the doctor ordered" type pick. I don't believe he'll ever be one of the best OL in the game because he lacks great athleticism (especially balance)... but he's got the size, strength, IQ and toughness to be an above-average starter for a very long time. To be able to turn the 18th pick into an above-average starter at a position of need and a WR with starting potential was a prudent move, and I support it.
