Frederick looked good yesterday...I liked seeing him down field on a few plays whacking guys...good times...I could care less about Floyd...I didn't care during the draft, nor do I care now...I remember when he shot up draft boards for seemingly no reason making his perceptions dubious at best...I am very happy how things turned out...yes, I agree and believe that Fred will be better by himself than Floyd will be...add in Williams and this is a slam dunk...the only real question is could they have squeezed more out of SF? likely, but I am not complaining

I didn't mind the trade down. I thought Floyd was an overhyped bum. I didn't like the value we got for the trade down. I think we got fleeced in that regard.

It is all academic at this point ..... but wouldn't it have been interesting to know what would have happened if we had traded down again .... got an additional draft pick AND still gotten Frederick. This class could be even stronger than it already appears to be.

If you believe in building your team through the draft with the best talent available then Floyd was the pick. If you want to address your teams most pressing needs with a plug and play type of guy then Fred was your guy. Either way, if Fred becomes a high level center for the next 6-7 years I don't think anyone can complain.

Frederick being the starting C from the minute he was drafted and showing it on the field in practice and wherever else is what makes him better. While Floyd hasnt even broken into the starting DL of the vikings which isnt strong to begin with at DT. could that be because the vikings have found out how short Floyds arms really are? Vikings have Kevin Williams and who else? Thats right nobody. But Frazier was reported as calling Floyds posistion irrelevant. he said he would be on the back end of the rotation. Not a whole lot of confidence there if you ask me.Floyd is going to be a bust with them trex arms

FWIW, I loved the Frederick pick and after day 1 of the draft was happy with how everything turned out. I just find the opinion of Frederick Alone > Floyd after 1 preseason game funny.

I'm gonna say the same thing I said after the draft, which is, based on how the draft happened, there's no logical reason to believe Frederick would've been there at #47. Sure it's possible in an "anything can happen way" but it wasn't going to happen. For all we know, had we taken Matt Elam or traded down with someone who would've taken him, Baltimore may have taken Frederick.

I liked this pick the first time he said, "i get to legally beat up someone on the field"...something like that.

Plus, the dude is smart. Money well spent.

Well im not basing my opinion on it after one game. Im basing it on the fact that it was a smart choice to pass on Floyd given how short his arms turned out to be. Floyd is going to bust mark those words. OL are going to put their hands on him and move him out the way. Floyd was a player who impressed in shorts sr bowl week. During games his arms told the story. Sure talent is there but he isnt in college anymore. Every player on the nfl field has talent.

Had we traded down again, I don't think there is any way we still get Frederick. I'm convinced that Baltimore would have snatched him up with the very next pick had we passed on him. He is just the type of guy Ozzie loves, and he plays like a Baltimore guy.

I could be wrong, but the idea that Frederick would have been there well into the 2nd round is lunacy IMO.

If it had been like that, I'm betting espn/nfln would have spun his selection so much different. "This is their type of guy huge and smart slobberknocker"

Rather than Floyd, I think (for those wishing to look back or grade with hindsight) a better comparison would be Bengals TE Eifert and SF Safety Reid. Safety was a big need for the Cowboys, almost as big a need as center. And since going to the 12 formation more this year and using two TEs, TE was also almost as big a need. NYG Pugh would also be a good comparison.

considering what Allen is showing i dont think Dallas has any thougts on Reid. and seriously how many balls will any TE not named witten realistically catch? Witten will catch 100 Dez 100 Austin will catch between 60-70. Romo threw 425 completions last yr. I dont expect the team to throw nowhere near as much as they did. So all this Eifert talk is silly.

Loving how Freddy is looking.

Making a player comparison at this stage is a bit premature though.
One guy went to a team fairly loaded at his position while the other one went to a team who had a greater need at his position than almost any other team. Pretty easy to start on Dallas' interior Oline.

That says nothing against our man Frederick, but it is true.

At the time of the draft, safety was a huge concern. Allen had not even practiced with the Cowboys yet. Church was coming off an achilles tear. Johnson was and still is a huge question mark. So, I'm sure the Cowboys gave Reid some consideration. I think the Cowboys said they would have went safety if New Orleans didn't pick the guy they were interested in.

The Cowboys did go TE with their 2nd rd pick. So picking a TE in the 1st may not have been out of the question. When Witten got hurt last year in the preseason, there was a lot of panic and heartburn I'm sure. Eifert in the 1st and Frederick in the 2nd would have been a nice haul (assuming he may have dropped. Some think so. I personally don't).

Anyway, I'm happy the draft fell the way it did. I have no complaints about any of the players the Cowboys chose.

We needed both. We ended up with Frederick which hopefully filled a need. I am not ready to say he is better than Floyd until year three.

Interesting because the Cowboys had him ranked as a top eight ( going from memory) player on their board.

Were the Cowboys smart for having him ranked that high??

Floyd was the better prospect. Fred was a greater need. In the absence of being able to trade down we should have taken Floyd. Since we were able to trade down and acquire an additional asset we stayed true to our board and plugged a major hole. Why is this even remotely difficult to understand?
