FEATURED Free agency thread *** Signings require link/media ***

this is pretty damning. also while not technically untrue, still a bit misleading since they've traded for guys.
How is it misleading?

He is specifically talking about free agency.

Trading for someone doesnt mean you dont use FA. The best teams use all three facets of team building.

Draft
FA
Trades

Commanders keep overpaying you love to see it
Maybe, but they are making the moves they feel are necessary to contend now. They got whipped by the Eagles in the playoffs and are actually trying to make up ground and not worrying about what the future may hold. If I'm a fan of that team, I prefer that to doing little to supplement the roster in free agency and then depending on the same draft that every team gets to use to try to improve the team.

after watching the commodes get Tunsil and we sign our long snapper. Nothing is better than this boys and girls.

Post of the day right here.

Jerry last season "maybe we made a mistake leaning on rookies on the OL."

Jerry this year. "not using FA to fill voids"

Basically,

"I know my way doesnt work, but I dont care, it is my toy, and I will play with it how I want."

That's my hope for improvement this year because the front office has at least shown it is willing to do that. Trade some of those later-round picks for players.

It is either that or embrace a roster filled with cheap FAs filling holes until we can draft replacements.

The Joneses have doubled down over and over again on their free agent philosophy that it doesn't pay to pay veteran FAs to the point where either they are completely deluded or willfully negligent.

eagles draft Milton Williams with a 3rd, signs a contract in FA that will get them a 3rd comp

Eagles draft Josh Sweat in the 4th, signs a contract in FA that will return a 4th round comp pick

We should have thought of this sooner
It's always nice for a team when it works out that way, but it doesn't always work out that way. We'll see how well Philly does replacing those players, but at least your front office is willing to go find replacements instead of just waiting for them to fall into their laps in the draft.

Can they be both?

They quite literally waited to pay Dak and CeeDee record setting deals last season waiting for "leaves to fall" only to set the market, where if they did that in March 2024, would have freed up money for FA.

Then to add insult to injury, Jerry tried to play the "we couldnt afford Henry" card.

He believes we are all stupid. Does anyone else realize that?

The highest nickel is paid 12.5 million this year, 3 years at 30m.

His name is Jourdan Lewis.

And, off course it is less than the top corners in the league. Your two best corners are starters. It’s a different role and has a completely different value.

The mere fact that it’s the highest nickel deal means he’s being paid as the best nickel back in the entire league.

Is he that? And, would you pay it?
At the time I posted, there wasn't an amount posted. I was wondering what that amount was. Thanks for your condescending tone.

Would I pay him $10m a year? No. He's older, has had some bad injuries and the dropoff could come pretty quickly. He has been nickel and dimed the last few years over a deal so I don't have any disdain for him going elsewhere.

I was curious since Spotrac had his expected value around $3m a year, which I thought was really low because I do agree he is one of the better nickel corners. I do wonder if Dallas made any offers, I mean could they have resigned him prior to the start of free agency for $7m a year? I would have done that. Will be interesting to hear if we did make him any kind of offer.

I would be disappointed, then I remembered the distinct schematic advantage we have by having Brian Schottenheimer as HC.

Such moves have backfired before. And usually when they do, those who support our free agency plan point those out as justification for not spending. However, I'd much rather swing and miss than never step up to the plate.

And the hit rate on those spots is less than 50 percent and they will come at the very end of the rounds...I mean it is good that you will get something, but it is far from guaranteed.

I don't think that they can. You're either delusional or aware. I used to think Jerry was simply delusional, but I don't know anymore, especially when it seems just as much Stephen's plan, if not more so.
