I would sign Darrelle Revis to play safety.

He'll be paid $6 million this year for not playing football. So you'll have to offer much more than that. You still interested?

You people serious think the front office is going to spend those types of dollars?
They have the money.
Actually they have plenty of it.
It is just Stephen the bean counter is now too busy skimming off the top - about 10% - 15% of it.
And he calls it value but what he really means is I am hiding the profits in the cap structure.

They play fans with the overprice argument because of course millions of dollars is a lot for 99.99% of us.
Of course they need to do that.
Otherwise fans would be pissed if they see huge amounts of cap unused.

You dont believe there is huge amount of cap space.
Well it is simple if anyone bother to put it on a spreadsheet.

By systematically turning off the restructuring, you can hide about 50 million profits from the fans.
The team has been restructuring about 20-30 million dollars per year, and changing that system can hide lots of $.

In fact, they can make their cap space look tight with this mirage in 2018,
in 2019, the savings are so huge (67million) that 32 million still shows.
in 2020, the savings are even large (92 million) that 47 million still shows.
how to hide that, they can change the standard contracting structure - essentially front loading contracts.
the drop in profits in 2021 is from the massive contracts given to resigning the class of 2016 - takes an extra year or 2 for massive cap hit to show up. actually after 2020, the model is not even relevant as there will be a new TV contract.

With the traditional 20 million of restructuring:
2017----- 2018----- 2019----- 2020----- 2021
$ 3.20---$ 28.66---$ 67.91--$ 92.72---$ 72.23

To hide the profits from the fans, with 20 million of restructuring turned off:
2017----- 2018----- 2019----- 2020----- 2021
$ 3.20---$ 8.66-----$ 32.91---$ 47.72--$ 22.23

These calculations have assumed:
1. continue to sign 3 free agents per year - 1 at 2m aav, 1 at 3m aav, 1 at 4m aav
2. resigning own free agents - martin, collins, jones and most of the class of 2016 as good starters or stars, resigning class of 2017 as decent starters (assuming draft results are not as good)

For those who want to question the financial model, I would be happy to email the model to you.
A more detailed report of the model will be posted on BTB.

Awesome.

Since we are into that kind of thing, why not just trade for Richard Sherman?

Malcolm Butler is probably available. But this front office is too behind the curve to build through the draft AND free agency.

Hence constant rebuild. Also, why the Patriots never rebuild.

I think you are cut pasting this over and over. Can't tell for sure because I usually have my eyes closed.

Don't want to pay Malcolm Butler nor do we have the trade capital to give to Lord Belichick.

Lets draft a project in the 1st round, groom him to be a safety for 2 seasons, then switch him back to corner back out of necessity because we fail to have any type of contingency plan in free agency.

THAT is a result of a front office without any direction. They're making millions to go wing it.

Just as probable as Richard Sherman...

Regardless, we're relying on the FO that sucks on drafting defense, to replace all these holes with rookies. The goal is to get better, and all they've done is create holes.

I bet you money if someone posted in February that this is what the end result of free agency would look like they would be laughed out of the thread.

I mean everyone saw that we would get the likes of Nolan Carroll and simply slide Jeff Heath into a prominent role.

Yeah, it's Agenda City.

Amazingly, a guy who wanted to spend, spend, spend on anybody and everybody to satisfy his own instant gratification mindset is now miffed because exactly what the team and everyone on this site told him would happen did happen.

And yet he still has the lack of awareness to be outraged and wants everyone to 'look at his spreadsheet'.

Waldo probably has the same canned response when at the doctors office filling out the section of the form that says "list your symptoms."

We will not sign anyone until after the draft, if then. We have our top 3 in OScan, Brown and Carroll. And will add a 1st or 2nd round CB, and maybe a late round or UDFA CB.

That's worse than last year's top three of Carr, Claiborne and Scandrick.

I would love to see Revis here and playing Safety - pull a Rod Woodson for us.

I think he would excel at S - doesn't have CB skill set at this stage of his career
I actually was thinking the same thing good to know im not alone.
