List your top 5 choices and reasons.

Also, are there any that have not been discussed that would be good options?

JPP – Probably expensive and had previous back problems

Suh – Super Expensive but terrific player.

Hardy – If acquitted, would have to be considered. Probably best DE in Free Agency.

McPhee – A personal favorite of mine. Plays both OLB and DE in a 3-4 at 280 pounds. Could really blossom in a 4-3.

Sheard – Stuck in a 3-4 but better in a 4-3.

Hughes – Did the other 3 super talented guys on his DL cause his success?

Brandon Graham - A 3-4 OLB that has said he prefers to be a 4-3 DE. Only 6'-1/2". Has 17 sacks in 5 seasons.

Orakpo – Always seems to be injured. Could be interesting on a Melton type contract.

George Johnson – Has only played 27 of 96 possible games with zero starts. Had 6 sacks in 2014 as a backup.

Adrian Clayborn – Played 1 game in 2014. Has missed almost 2 complete seasons in 4 year career. Has 13 sacks total. Has Erb's Palsy in right arm. Former 1st round pick.

Tyson Alualu - Former 1st round pick looked good as a rookie but knee problems have limited him. He has a partial micro-fracture at some point but never missed a game. Started all games in first 4 years then moved to backup DE in 2014 with new coaching staff.

Da'Quan Bowers – Only 7 sacks in 4 years. Former 2nd round pick.

B.J. Raji – Good team guy but does not seem like the quick twitch Marinelli type.

Ngata – Rumored to be a possible cap cut, but that seems doubtful. Probably more valuable to 3-4 teams.

Stephen Paea – A former Marinelli DT. Definitely better than Hayden, but owned by the Dallas OL.

Nick Fairley – Character questions but talented.

Devon Still – Restricted FA.

Dan Williams – Probably best as a 3-4 NT.

Sione Fua – Only 12 starts in 5 years.

Jared Odrick – 41 starts of 80 possible games.

Terrance Knighton – Seems like more of a run stopper than a quick Marinelli type DT.

Kenrick Ellis – A 3-4 DE with only 5 starts in 4 years.

Ray McDonald – Got in trouble but I think the charges were dropped or proven to be unfounded, IIRC.

Jason Worilds – Probably stays in Pitt.

Arthur Moats – A 250 pound 3-4 OLB. Had 4 sacks in 2014. Never a full time starter.

Justin Houston – Highly likely to get franchised.

1. Hardy- with a caveat that if he is acquitted of course. Best DE on the market imo
2. Fairley- would a be a good 1T
3. Sheard- good value signing
4. Orakpo- another low risk high potential guy at the right contract
5. Clayborn- if he checks out physically of course.

Sign Hardy and draft a DE in the first or second round.

I'm OK rolling with the DTs we have because I think Brent and Bishop will play well at the 1 and Crawford will be even better next year playing the 3.

How I think it goes- We sign George Johnson and Stephen Pea. Draft DE in round 1 or 2 and a DT 4th or later

How I wish it goes- Sign Brandon Graham and Jared Odrick. Draft a DE and DT in the top 3 rounds.

I guess nobody is even thinking for a second that Paea's career year had anything to do with his impending free agency?

I just hope Marinelli is not half as naïve.

I don't care what they do as long as they add better guys than what the Cowboys currently have at either DT or DE and don't pay a king's ransom.

Think what Seattle did with Arvil and Bennett two years ago.

That's a valid point.

I flip-flop when it comes to the Cowboys signing him because I don't see him being a #1 technique DT. I could see him rotating out with Crawford.

That being said, if Melton came back (at a reasonable salary) I would say skip Paea.

To a lesser extend I feel the same about Fairly, even though I think he's a better player than Paea.

If Melton leaves the Cowboys need another #3 technique DT and (still) a good #1 technique DT.

Yes, but think about how many pushups he can do, Michael.

Hughes, who is a local guy that has always had better sack numbers than ranking or appreciation. He tops my list by a lot.
Clayborne on a make good 1 year deal. Not gonna cost much at all.
Graham who could fit as a 3rd DE here. We need rotational guys and depth as well as a proven stud. Again price should be right.
Hardy on a 1 year deal similar to Melton (but richer) where he makes a lot to stay or hits free agency again. More risk but ultimate Jerry gamble.

I don't think Dallas considers a FA 1T and only a 3T if they are an extreme value.
DE they either resign some guys who did nothing last year or look to the market for an answer.
Maybe they do a little of both and bring say Spencer back but add a Jerry Hughes or Brandan Graham also.

I can't say that I really know these players well, but I think signing Sheard and Fairley would help this DL's overall talent and depth without breaking the bank. My friend follows the Browns but is a die-hard Dallas fan and he hopes we sign Sheard. A DL with Crawford, Fairley, Lawrence, Mincey, Sheard, Brent, Bishop and a rookie DL taken in the 1st 2 rounds could be good. I just really want us to come away with this year's version of Seattle's Avril and Bennett signings. Good players that made a real impact without costing crazy money. Having said that, I'm totally on board with us spending money on one of the top FA DLs like Suh or Hardy. :)

You gotta spend to win. or in the pats and seahawks case the last 2 yrs. Use PED's and cheat

You may have to spend, but you do not have to over spend.

Seahawks didn't overspend for Avril & Bennett.

The very top guys like Suh and Hughes will be overpaid. But there will be other guys like Fairly, Paea and Sheard who'll get better valued contracts (from the club's perspective).

You can't make guys take less. It just kind of worked out that way for SEA. That year's DE market was an anomaly I believe.

The Pats definitely get guys to give that hometown or going to the Super Bowl discount. Revis will probably play for half price next year since he got that ring.
