I guess nobody is even thinking for a second that Paea's career year had anything to do with his impending free agency?

I just hope Marinelli is not half as naïve.

Paea's work ethic has NEVER been questioned. The talent around him was gawd awful, fortunately he had a little more help this year with the addition of Willie Young, Allen and some others...he is an ascending player and don't think you'll see his effort drop off with a new contract.

I'm on board with any combo of Sheard, Parnell or even Graham and Paea (who would replace Nick friggin' Hayden). Draft another pass rusher (three-tech or end) and let's go!

Hughes, who is a local guy that has always had better sack numbers than ranking or appreciation. He tops my list by a lot.
I'm right there with you. I go for him first and then still draft a DE. That gives you Lawrence, Hughes, Rookie, Mincey, and maybe even spencer at DE. Lots of flexibility and skill there.

no to hardy. no to orakpo who has played all his career as an OLB in 3-4.

Agree about Orakpo. If he can't hold up as an OLB in a 3-4 then I cannot see how he would last a season in a 4-3 where he has to directly engage with OL every single snap. I'm on the fence with Hardy, but I suspect he will be too rich for Jerry's blood anyway.

What the team paid to Melton was a Pittance... And he gave them 5 sacks.

Henry wasn't a car wreck.

Mincey was a terrific bargain.

Spending a ton on a FA doesn't guarantee anything either, i.e.Carr, Haynesworth.

Which was.... You know... The point of my post.

Most cheap veteran free agency deals don't turn out to be Avril or Bennett. So pointing to them as what the Cowboys should do is silly.

If we want an impact player most likely we need to spend.

Give me Suh.

I wanted Jared Odrick when he was in the draft. Even though he hasn't started many games, he was generally pretty effective producing around 5 sacks a season from a 3-4 DT position. I believe he actually started 16 games last season, but for some reason his sack totals dropped off where he only had 1 sack last year. Not sure what happen.

Not sure he fits in our new defense, but it's possible he could fit. I would definitely take 5 sacks a year from a part time starting DT!

Huge fan of Jabaal Sheard. From what I've read, it seems like he never got comfortable transitioning to 3-4 OLB the past two seasons. Bring him here in the 4-3 again under Marinelli and I think he could be very good.

I take a long look at Hardy first and foremost. The Cowboys have an excellent security apparatus and I would use it to dig up all I could on him. I get a PI type and tail him for the next month. I want to know his behavior patterns inside and out.

I sit down with Garrett and go over the findings and assess his RKG potential. If he checks out, I make him a competitive offer on opening day.

If not then I wait and see. I'm not paying a 1 tech over $10m AAV like I will an edge rusher so Suh is unlikely at best. Instead I wait for week 2 and the prices to start to come down and revisit the market as it is then if Hardy is not an option. Day 1 is a sellers market and I would wait to buy.

I knew what direction you would going.

Don't be surprised if the Cowboys don't sign Haynesworth Suh.

Yep, if the Cowboys can't get a top-rated DE, then Sheard is right up there as a signing for me.

I mean Suh might be the best FA signing in cowboy history.

Suh is not a Haynesworth type, IMO.

Haynesworth was know to be lazy.

Their reasons for dirty play were also different. Haynesworth stomped Gurode's face because the Cowboys were owning him. Suh does it because he enjoys it, much like Erik Williams did.

I know.

I just don't think Suh would do enough to justify his ultimate price tag.

I really have no idea what that number will be. He has already made big money so I don't know if he would go to a bad team like the Raiders who seem like a team that might drastically overpay.

I would go 12M per year on him for certain. I'm out at 16M and I'm undecided on any number between those 2.

Should Suh be considered at 12M per year?

Yeah, I could buy that. But I start to get queasy at anything beyond that.

Would rather have a guy who had a career year than one doesn't. That's a lot of names up there, no one else motivated to prove anything? And Paea is known for his work ethic so I'm not buying the flashing neon warning signs.

You can't make guys take less. It just kind of worked out that way for SEA. That year's DE market was an anomaly I believe.

The Pats definitely get guys to give that hometown or going to the Super Bowl discount. Revis will probably play for half price next year since he got that ring.

They took less because they knew Seattle was a championship caliber team and wanted to play a major part in it. I think will have similar leverage like Seattle. Especially when they know that they will be playing a major part in coming here and making the defense special.
