So now are we going to say we want a Barry "dance around in the backfield and look for places to run" type instead of an Emmitt( hit the hole hard) type of running back?
They both made yards their own way. Barry could not do what Emmitt did but by the same token Emmitt could not do it Barry's way either. You can’t tell me you would not be thrilled to have another RB who would make the kind of yards for us that Barry made for the Lions.

You gotta let a RB do his own thing and make your game plan fit what he can do best. Parcells was delusional and too believing in his own football omniscience to realize that fact. And he cost us at more positions than just RB. I for one am really glad he is gone.

Shake it off Julius…this year will be time to get back to playing football.

Why should any player be allowed to do his own thing? This isnt backyard football.

I trust Parcells about this more than I do some whiny, mediocre, dime a dozen runningback.

Actually, in Jones rookie year, his production steadily decreased as the game went on, getting the whole way down to about 2.3 ypc on rushing attempts 16-20, and 3.3 ypc on attempts 21-25. It did shoot back up to 6 ypc on carries 26-30, but went back to 2 at 31-35. In any case, the sample size for all carries after 26 is low enough to skew the results. And after seeing Julius average 2.8 ypc on carries 16-25, why would anyone want to keep giving him the ball then, anyways?

It's nearly time to face facts. The reason Julius looked so earth shattering in his rookie season was because he faced horrid run defenses. Defenses that had allowed 200 yard games to several RBs, and had allowed 150+ games to even more RBs in the weeks surrounding when we played them. The reason he can't do it but seldom now? He's just not that good.

Those statistics hold true throughout his career. He drops about 1 ypc after 15 carries. Compare that to the elite backs like Jackson, Gore, Johnson and Tomlinson and they actually get better production after 15 carries.

If Jones' carries were limited to no more than 20 carries in any game and an avaverage of about 15 then i think you would see his YPC spike to 5.

Jones truly is explosive as he demonstrated early part of last year and in his rookie campaign but he is never going to be good at 300 carries for a season.
