It makes sense with the acquisition of Davis.

Personally, I think that change might help Jones. But of course, it will probably be attributed to him escaping the clutches of Bill Parcells' devious machinations intended to destroy his career.
I know, that's just what i was thinking.

To be honest, the idea that parcells told Jones to run straight ahead into the pile up of bodies created when the blocking beraks down is the most absurd idea i have heard on this board, i cant beleive that it has continued this long.

"Just put your head down and run. I don't want to hear your complaining, understand? I just want less than four yards."

You explain to me why BP said that he was pleased with his run game early in the year when they were averaging about 3.5 at times then!

I really don't care who was to "blame" for JJ being an average back. I hope he has a great season but I honestly don't expect it. I find it hard to believe that the absence of Parcells is magically going to make a productive offense become more productive. Inside of a productive offense, JJ was an average back. Did opposing defenses decide to stop the run at all costs and make Romo beat them? I don't think so.

What level of success is needed by JJ to convince the Cowboys to pay him and not to go after McFadden next spring? 1000 yards? 1200? 1500? I don't know the answer but my guess Jerry will be looking for someone special come next draft and JJ is not special.

We'll see.

Well it should be interesting to see how Phillips (Garrett) uses the RB in the offense and how they will be rotated or if they may choose to stay with one guy more than what we saw under Parcells.

Coach Parcells actually achieved something. He has two rings on his fingers.

What has Julius Jones done?

Or is this a situation where it only counts what you have done recently when doling out praise or "critisizm"?

Jones has not built up the points. Ever.

No rushing titles. No Pro Bowls. Nothing.

Forgive me if I find your weak argument more than a little childish and boring.

i don't care if he's got 17 rings, 3 landsharks, manages a dozen ant farms in lower cambodia, runs a 12 minute mile in reverse swimming in used egg nog, and puts on a polar bear suit and does coke commercials for the UN - he's NOT BEYOND CRITISIZM.

you can bag on me being "recent" fine - can i bag on you for living in the past? we can spout that crap all day long and get nowhere. but even if he won a superbowl in dallas, he's still not above reproach, is he?

if jones says parcells had him running in a manner of which he's not used to - then maybe - just maybe - HE DID. as for why not say something at the time - let's not pretend parcells didn't control info-flo out of VR - another quirk of his.

that's funny cause what you're saying is until you win something your voice is nothing and when you finally win something you're infalliable forever.

at least that's how you're coming across.

i'm gonna go invest in ant farms now. please continue the blind faith.

I agree ...... but the players that Parcells was closest too in his career where the ones who were not scared to stand up to him .....

LT (they got in a fist fight)
Keyshawn
Brian Cox
the list goes on and on ....

Now AB was different because he threw his shirt and walked away ..... thats a punk move.

100% agree, zrin. but it also shows his "parcells players" in action and his willingness to have different standards for the different guys. NOT SAYING this is bad, i think we all give more lattitude to those who we respect and that's fine.

all i'm saying is maybe parcells made a mistake w/jones in how he handled him. one size does not fit all and parcells wasn't known for many other sizes than his own.

hello mr extreme - let's please rewarp what people say to get max benefit and then whine at journalists for doing the same!!!

different people get along with other people in their own way, if at all. this seems to imply "everyone should get along w/bill!!! he's got 2 rings!"

which we know is crap. many people have gotten along w/bill - great - and many have not - who cares. it's life and it happens.

if jones does better w/another coach it's got nothing to do with parcells in as much as finding a better situation for himself.

that's ok, isn't it?

I can just hear the excuses next offseason, after another disappointing year of Julius's mediocrity.

"Seriously guys, we NEED to resign him! It takes about a year for the coached up roboticness of his running style to go away! We will RUE THE DAY!!!!!"

The appologists will find an excuse every time.

I am willing to admit that I think some of Parcells' quirks were not conducive to success. I am also willing to admit that his coaching style didn't work with all players, or worked better with some better than others.

I would even be willing to concede that Parcells' use of Jones was potentially not the best way to use him. But lets look at this issue realistically.

I think it would really be a stretch to assume that Parcells told Jones during film study anything like this:

Julius, you ran through that gaping hole there and got 20 yards on that play. I don't want for you to do that anymore. Instead, you need to run up your lineman's back and fall down. You need to let them "down you" on first contact instead of using your great balance. Don't bump it to the outside if the hole you are supposed to go through closes up, just run into your lineman and fall down. Besides , we absolutely LOVE second and long and third and longer situations around here!

hey - i'm just as willing to put blame on julius. shut up and find a way - but that's not always realistic. but overall it's easy to see why we're not "sold" on the RB position these days.

You've gotta love all these "the truth is finally out!" people.

Look, there's a lot of guys rolling Parcells under the bus ever since he left. Those guys are going to have to put up or shut up. That means BIG seasons from guys like Julius Jones, Marcus Spears, etc. They won't have anyone to blame if they suck again next season.

When did that happen? Julius averaged 4.51 yards per carry over the first 4 games and 4.18 per carry over the first 8 games. He was a top ten rusher in the early portion of the season.

I think the NFL should pass a rule that says that defenders can't tackle Julius Jones. Maybe that will improve his stats a little!
