Parcells had a real man love for Julius Jones, considering he passed on Steven Jackson and Kevin Jones to get him. He also publicly defended him time and time again. He defened him much more than his production really warranted. Everyone could plainly see that MB3 was out producing him.

The truth is that Julius Jones couldn't hold Curtis Martin/Joe Morris/Otis Anderson's jock strap.

I wish Jones and Spears would politely decline comment when asked questions like these.

But I guess nice young men who are constantly questioned with microphones in their faces are bound to let something slip from time to time.

So Jones holds not responsibility for his play? It was all Parcells? BS, Jones needs to man up and do the job. Because he says Parcells over coached him does not mean a thing it is an excuse for his own short coming. BP did not tell him to go down with simple arm tackles or run up the back of his lineman. Jones is on the spot and he better get it together.

Julius Jones' comments are pretty dated, I believe he made a statement like that a little after Parcells left.

I think Parcells played mind games with the kid, especially after he had questions about his toughness, but at the end of the day, you have to perform.

A comment like this shouldn't be made until after you have had a successful season  .

Ok so now NFL.com is the say all in evaluating players?
They described JJ to a T. Too bad if that makes blaming Parcells look stupid.

While I do beleive Juluis will have a better running season now that Parcells is gone, it doesn't change the fact that he cannot stay healthy and that he does wear down. Parcells has nothing to with Juluis's durability. Hopefully he tears it up so Dallas can slap the franchise tag on him and then trade him. This would allows Dallas to get McFadden and trade jones for a 1st or 2nd.

I like Julius, hope he has a great year next year. But Parcells coaching didn't hurt Curtis Martin.

The offseason is for chirping. And alot of folks have done it. So, ya know, we'll see.

I was not one to bash on Bill for much but this is something I really think did happen with JJ.

He had a different style all together compared to his rookie year.

You could tell he would hit the hole and then instead of juking he would just lower his head and slam forward often times right into a player.

I also remember bill one time saying that getting positive yards, even if it is just one or two, is better than getting negative yards trying to make a play.

I think JJ, bill or no bill, was paranoid about fumbling because he would wrap up the ball in both hands much too quick at times.

So, as one that did not bash on bill about much, I do believe he changed JJ's style.

However as you stated. Julius has a chance to put up or shut up this year. No more excuses with hurt o-linemen (rivera) or bill coaching a certain way.

I feel this is a situation like some others talking about things...show the difference and THEN talk about what held you back last year. Like Spears talking all that stuff before he has played a down this year.

The way I see it if they go out and have some of the same problems this year then they have no right to blame anyone else because they already used their excuses.

While I agree with you that Julius couldn't hold Curtis Martin's jock strap (not too convinced about Morris and Anderson though), I think that Julius definitely suffered from being "overcoached".. Yes, Martin shined under Parcells, but different players took to Parcells differently, that's no secret.. I think that Martin was a really smart guy that took what Parcells said but also allowed himself freedom while he was out on the field.. Julius may just have taken everything Parcells said to heart and focused so much on hitting the hole and protecting the ball and not messing up that it messed with his instincts.. There is no denying that Julius has been a different back than he was in that rookie year- it's obvious.. Well, that rookie year he was running on his instincts.. You could see it was just natural ability- things you can't coach.. I think Parcells kind of reigned those instincts in.. And Julius was thinking too much.. I think Parcells was a genius but I don't think his kind of coaching worked for everyone.. Heck, it's no secret that he coached some dominating defenses with the Giants.. But does that mean that he perfectly coached the Cowboys defense the last couple of years? Almost everyone would agree that his coaching style of read and react didn't work for us at the end of last year.. If everyone can see that, how come it is not possible for some to see that his way of coaching RB's may have worked wonders for some (Martin, Anderson), but it was not effective for others like Julius..

The main problem with JJ is fans putting him into the Hall of Fame because of three games his rookie year.

Wow! I didn't know Parcells coached Julius to go down on first contact and look for the pile of defenders and run straight into it.

Thanks Julius for letting us know that. I look forward to a huge year out of you this year now that you won't have a coach teaching you to go down on first contact and instead of running through a gaping hole, cutting it back into the pile of defenders. That makes me feel a lot better about our running game this coming season.

Problem I have is Jones needs to be point his finger at himself before he points it at others. Barber had no problem hitting the holes and watching Jones missing holes got to be old quickly. This is the NFL you can't just gain yardage when you have a hole big enough for a truck to go through you have sometimes make things happen on your own. Every other back that has been with BP has been able to do that yet Jones can't? I put that on Jones more than I would this cop out excuses of Blaming someone who is no longer around.

:hammer:

This is exactly the way I see it.

We'll just have to wait for the season to see which 'camp' is right or wrong.

Ditto...It is put up or shut up time and Julius better realize it because we all know Jerry is eyeballing McFadden next draft.

Isn't this an example of what Jones just said. Going with the play, even though he knew the hole wasn't there, but taking to heart Parcells' words that even 1-2 yards is better than a negative play, so he doesn't take the chance to bounce it outside?

He seemed to hit the hole pretty well on that 70 yard run against NO. But, then again, there was a hole.

This has become one of the great traditions of spring ... flowers bloom, grass grows green, weather warms, baseball season starts, concerts in the parks, people make excuses for Julius and predict next year will be his breakout year.

JJ gained 4.2 YPC his rookie year and 4.1 last year. His rookie year he got hurt and missed 8 games, last year he missed none. I just don't see where Parcells screwed this guy up.
