It's not just fans. The media is sometimes clueless on what players are having an impact on teams. They know names only.

I'll never forget after Claiborne went down (remember him?!) and during a broadcast that Gruden was talking about our defense and how we were missing our best corner.

I almost choked on my tongue.

I've noticed that too, my wife's grandfather (mid 70s) HATES Aikman lol says he is sellout and calls him every curse word he knows lol it is really quite funny.... I asked him "well what about his time in dallas, doesn't that count for anything?" He says it's old news lol

He still loves irvin, go figure lol

Irvin is as pro Cowboy as anybody alive. Bleeds blue and silver. Aikman tries to present himself as unbiased.

Aikman is a professional. Aikman does what he can to be unbiased and it drives some cowboys fans nuts because he is not like Irvin and it drives other fans nuts because they think he should rag on the team more.

Irvin, as much as I love his love for the cowboys, is NOT the same kind of professional Tony is. He makes no bones about being biased for the Cowboys.
Many cowboys fans love that but they absolutely would hate it from other commentators from other teams.

It's odd reading through that along with other teams forums. Non-Cowboy fans think Aikman is a homer and Dallas fans thinks that he is out to get us. There has to be a happy medium right? I am biased and can't find his homerism.

Yeah the happy medium is that neither of it is true.

Cowboys fans WANT Aikman to be somewhat of a homer, so the fact that he's all professional agitates them.

And haters immediately think he's biased so they misconstrue everything into him rooting for Dallas.

You do get spoiled if you hang out at CZ a lot. In real life, you're lucky if fellow Cowboys fans know the players on the roster, much less are able to debate their histories and scheme fits. It's not surprising Packers fans have an understanding of the Cowboys that's drawn in crayon. They get their information from other message boards and ESPN.
True. I try not to talk Cowboys with people outside of this board except for my close friends.

Have to kind of feel people out in their knowledge, or else it gets awkward when you talk about Ronald Leary and they have no clue.

Exactly just like this goof ball didn't know Dunbar from Randle during the highlights of the game in which Romo threw a screen pass to Dunbar who was held no less by Levy and was flagged like really the laziness of journalists nowadays.

Troy must do a good job, because i do genuinely wonder if he is a fan of the team. I get the feeling he doesnt care for Jerry. Idk, i may be completely wrong

Packers fans are dumb. They and Bear fans are annoying and know nothing of substance about football.

You mean like Jaworski? I really think he is very knowledgeable about the game but he hates the Cowboys. After the game he literally looked sick when he was talking about "the PI" unpenalty.

I was on a Packers board and they say because Henry Melton is out we wont be able to stop Eddie lacy lol
I guess they only remember the Melton that played in Chicago.

http://forum.packerchatters.com/index.php?topic=3619.15 scroll down to the end to see the comment im talking about.

even funnier how our own team views the cowboys.

I can understand other teams more casual fans not being up on all the players, most in here don't know a lot of the D for GB. couple that with our "we-fense" where we simply have no real superstars, it would be work for them to figure out.

why people who live and breathe cowboys can't is simply beyond me. :)

I was watching the game with 3 other guys and Roger Staubach was mentioned in the broadcast. One guy said it was cool that a Jewish guy made it so big at QB in the NFL .
My jaw kind of dropped. For starters, who cares what the religion is.
Second he assumed based on the name (don't ask me why).
And finally, anyone that was a Cowboys fan for a long time or at least knows some history, knows Staubach was about as Catholic as you can get.
Just a hint ..the"Hail Mary " pass......lol.

Yeah, we're kind of spoiled.

That is an example. I don't think he is as bad as Irvin as far as being biased for a team. I also don't think he is bad as Faulk for being biased AGAINST a team.

I don't believe Michael is biased in his analysis of the Cowboys. He tells the truth about our flaws. Some people get his desire for us to win with him being impartial which isn't true if they paid attention to his analysis.

Aikman has been *better* this year.

But up until this year, he wasn't unbiased.

I have told a few beat writers the same thing....YES, having a Cowboys bias is not part of your job. I absolutely agree with that.

But, being critical for the sake of trying to not come off as a Cowboys homer is not your job either.

Up until this year, it was getting ridiculous with Aikman. In the past, Aikman would have said the offensive PI on Williams a 'good call' just so he wouldn't come off as a homer. And he would have incessantly harped on the Hitchens PI that got reversed.

He stopped doing it this year and from the get-go. Yes, the Cowboys are a much better team, but he was the same way back in 2007 when we went 13-3, 2009 when we went 11-5 and won a playoff game and the same way during the Parcells years.

I honestly believe that there was some mending of some broken fence between Aikman and Jerry as there was talk about Aikman possibly taking over personnel decisions for Dallas. I don't think those were legitimate discussions, but Aikman was asked about it and you could hear a tone in him that he was flattered by it.

He's still dead to me and has a long way to go before I can forgive him of years of going out of his way to try and prove to the world that he isn't a homer.

It's not just lack of information that the casual fan deals with. It's also just a lack of understanding on just how much we live and die with this team.

I remember the father of one of my friends a few years ago asking about the Cowboys. It was during that 2004 season where things weren't going so well. I had made a comment that I was excited about the game on Sunday and he asked why did I bother getting excited for a team that was bad. It's a really hard question to answer for someone that isn't a fan like we are. Yeah, they'll get excited when things are going well and they'll bust out their Cowboys gear or wear a tshirt the Sunday before a playoff game, but they'll never experience the rollercoaster of emotions that we will.

I honestly got a bit choked up this last game when Lawrence redeemed himself. It's not a Super Bowl win or anything, but just being along for the ride through all these tough times? It makes times like these so precious. I truly hope the fans on here don't take this for granted. Even if the season ends on Sunday, I'm so thankful for this season and this team.

This would have been a perfect answer to my "We're all giddy" thread.

What's the difference between this year and last year or the year before that or the year before that?

It's interesting how Aikman became better when the Cowboys got better. Just saying. :)
