Aikman is a professional. Aikman does what he can to be unbiased and it drives some cowboys fans nuts because he is not like Irvin and it drives other fans nuts because they think he should rag on the team more.

Irvin, as much as I love his love for the cowboys, is NOT the same kind of professional Tony is. He makes no bones about being biased for the Cowboys.
Many cowboys fans love that but they absolutely would hate it from other commentators from other teams.

That's because their two professions are mutually exclusive and involve different skill sets and persona.

Michael Irvin is Bill O'Reilly. It's his job to comment and be provocative. He can cheer lead if he wants because being biased is accepted in his position.

Troy is Brian Williams. He's a color analyst on network broadcasts which is more of a reporters role. He calls it as he sees it and although he has opinions of players and teams during the telecast, those opinions are limited to the scope of the play and game, not for or against.

Fox would fire Troy tomorrow if he openly rooted for the Cowboys during a telecast.

At a Christmas get together I had a member of my "extended" family ("a Cowboys fan") tell me how Weeden would be so much better than Romo....eventually, "once he got up to nfl speed" and how "he quit watching the Cowboys this year because they lost every time he did"...I couldn't muster more of a response other than hmmm....before walking back in the house to watch the 2nd half of the Colts game. On the way home I said I'm never discussing football or the Cowboys with that guy again.

I don't mind talking to "fair weathered "Cowboys fan as long as they admit it before the conversation. There is nothing worse than somebody saying theyre a diehard fan and are as clueless as the example you just gave. Funny part is… I will talk to a lot of Commander, Eagles and Giants fans and know more about their team than they do. But I always water down my conversations when it comes to the Cowboys just because I don't expect everybody to know our team like a lot of us on here do.

I only have one friend that I can talk cowboys with on the same level (he understands our history, our weaknesses and strengths, etc), however he lives on the island so we resort to texting each other during games.

I know about four other 'cowboys fans', and some of them aren't even the bandwagon type, but I simply avoid talking to them about the team at all costs. It's like any opinion they have is just based on what espn has said about the team over the years (Romo will always choke, team won't win till Jerry dies, should have drafted Manziel, should have drafted safeties instead of Oline, etc).

It's not just lack of information that the casual fan deals with. It's also just a lack of understanding on just how much we live and die with this team.

I remember the father of one of my friends a few years ago asking about the Cowboys. It was during that 2004 season where things weren't going so well. I had made a comment that I was excited about the game on Sunday and he asked why did I bother getting excited for a team that was bad. It's a really hard question to answer for someone that isn't a fan like we are. Yeah, they'll get excited when things are going well and they'll bust out their Cowboys gear or wear a tshirt the Sunday before a playoff game, but they'll never experience the rollercoaster of emotions that we will.

I honestly got a bit choked up this last game when Lawrence redeemed himself. It's not a Super Bowl win or anything, but just being along for the ride through all these tough times? It makes times like these so precious. I truly hope the fans on here don't take this for granted. Even if the season ends on Sunday, I'm so thankful for this season and this team.

Love this, Except this season won't end this Sunday. We're going to shock the world. Get ready for a wild ride

It's my #1pet peeve trying to discuss the team with a "fan" who only knows Romo & Dez. I immediately dismiss them.

I only know Dez. He's that really good running back who went for almost 2000 yards this year. Who is Romo?

I read where a lot of people think that we will get blown out at Green Bay or hope that we will. But as long as we can run the ball the game will be close enough to give us a chance to win.

Those are mostly Eagles/Giants/Commander fans, they're so angry and depressed right now that they're on a suicide watch.

According to fans of other teams....
  • Romo is similar to Jay Cutler
  • Dez Bryant only wants the ball and is a selfish player
  • The reason Dallas "sux" on defense is because they got rid of Newman
Ignorance truly is bliss.

I don't even care...U got the colors on? you got the star on? I'm High Fiving you and yelling "Go Cowboys".

My girl is trying to keep this a secret. But she doesn't know Jack about the Cowboys. She grew up in TEXAS!!!

I cant imagine growing up in Texas for the most part, 1 to 3 hours away from Dallas and not knowing anything. Nothing. Zilch. About the Cowboys. Even for a non -football fan.

I don't think she knows what the downs are for. 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th down; she doesnt know!!! I am serious. She is pictured, and went to the game with me,. and she asked me , "Who is number 9".....!!!!!

But that game has made her a FAN!!!! She had good time!

They would have to fire Strahan as well. He is a Giants homer/Cowboy hater of the highest order.

From what I read, Troy is just as intense at doing well as a broadcaster , as he was playing football.

The guys a winner. You may not like him as an announcer, but a lot of people who watch NFL football do like him.

Him and Joe Buck are the #1 Game Announcers now. They are the best. They get the big games... You have to work at that to get in that position.....they just dont give it too you....

Oh I think Troy is an excellent broadcaster, him and Moose are my favorites. To me Joe is just a big empty voice.

You do get spoiled if you hang out at CZ a lot. In real life, you're lucky if fellow Cowboys fans know the players on the roster, much less are able to debate their histories and scheme fits. It's not surprising Packers fans have an understanding of the Cowboys that's drawn in crayon. They get their information from other message boards and ESPN.

I've actually told a lot of my non-Cowboys fan friends "I love the Cowboys, but not our fanbase. Most of them know nothing about football or the team."

This was before I found CZ. I'm so glad I did, because it seems like a disproportionately large number of our fans I meet in public here in the Midwest couldn't name more than five players off the active roster, might watch 2-3 games a year, and all think Romo sucks. (Note: Unfortunately most of my family is included in this boat.) It's nice to find a community where I can talk with people who actually get it.

Yep. I think so. Every board has its own personality, and there are commonalities across all of them, but the fact that we've got a large population of Cowboys fans here and keep the conversations clean I think basically lets the adults talk (for the most part) and the conversations more about topics and less about ripping on each other. Personally, I think that's the best mix.

Kathy Griffin & Anderson Cooper's CNN New Years cast last week at Times Square had a funny moment; Kathy asks Anderson who Tony Romo is-- Anderson, not being a sports fan, thought he was a restaurant out west somewhere. It's all staged, I know, but I guess the look of disbelief on Ms. Griffin's face was priceless; methinks she's a fan of Mr. Romo.
