Future negotiations

There are also a ton of reasons why players might want to leave i.e. escaping the dysfunction and winning a SB.
Emmitt didn’t want to leave. Parcells cut him.

Ware didn’t want to leave. Jerry cut him.

Dez didn’t want to leave. Jerry cut him.

Can you think of a player that chose to leave Dallas (even with the dysfunction) because they wanted to win a SB elsewhere? I can’t think of a single quality player that has publicly stated they turned down money in Dallas to play elsewhere.

I can think of a TON of players that stayed WAY over their productive years that this FO has overpaid.

To your point— they are professionals. They play for money. And they are people with families and relationships in the cities they play in.

Exactly. They play for money.

No income tax. Huge brand and market exposure in Dallas. Lucrative opportunities in Big D after your football days are over.

There are a TON of financial reasons beyond just the contract why players would NOT want to be traded from Dallas.

Now that JJ has established he will trade a premium player if things get to a certain point, future negotiations will favor Dallas
Tennessee has no state income tax. I don’t see players straining at the leash to play there. They’re professionals. And the state income tax issue only matters for home games. When the Cowboys play at the Giants their game check has a deduction for New Jersey state income tax. And agents consider tax considerations when negotiating deals.

49ers and Rams don’t seem to struggle putting together a competitive roster despite being in a heavily taxed state. Raiders and Seahawks don’t have state income tax to worry about. They’re as bad as the Cowboys.

State income tax is a non-issue. Agents can simply negotiate for more money for their clients to mitigate the tax burden. Prescott had the ability to leave, despite playing in a no income tax state it still took $60 million per year to get him to stay. $5 million more than the next highest paid guy in the league. Get over the state income tax issue. It isn’t one.

So with the line in the sand drawn over parsons contract. Should we expect the same to happen with Tyler Smith and George Pickens if they choose to do so since both are represented by athletes first group and Mr Mulugheta?
Micah didn’t want to leave. He got greedy and Jerry called his bluff. People seem to want to gloss over the story where he tried to stay at the last minute. By then he had burnt his bridge!

Prescott pushed for 60 million because he believed he is worth that and his contract was next in line. He wasn’t talked into staying because he wanted to leave lol

And if you notice— Dak has made a TON of money through loads of endorsements. Name a more lucrative market than Dallas when it comes to brand exposure.

Throw on the national TV exposure each and every year regardless of the team’s record, and players love wearing the star even with all the dysfunction

Micah did not want to leave. He tried to work out a deal as soon as the news hit a trade was in the works lol

He was trying to force a deal with the trade demands— and he pushed JJ too far and underestimated how stubborn the old coot is.

Didn't Micah say Lane Johnson gives him issues?
Absolutely one of the only tackles that can block him one on one there aren't very many it might have been the tackle from San Francisco as well but normally you need a double and sometimes chip with a 3rd guy I'm not a hater parsons gonna be hard to block but he can be neutralized and taken out of a game we've seen it we've seen it with our own eyes..

Depends how greedy they get. Micah was pure greed.
lol, oh please. Even if we chalk it up to greed, that’s the name of the game. Either pay or don’t. Every other team has to build a roster with greedy players in the mix so if you can’t handle it you have no business running a franchise.

Like a lot of fans, Jerry seems to think there’s some inherent perk to being a Cowboy. That only works with winning franchises and Dallas isn’t one. Jerry thinks too highly of himself and therefore his team. He oversells on being a Cowboy meaning something special to a group of players who largely weren’t even born the last time Dallas won a championship. These players aren’t buying that nonsense. You aren’t getting any discounts on account of the last 30-or-so years.

The easy solution is to act now, pay those guys market value as it stands right now, and move on.

But the Cowboys love to wait around and wait for other teams to reset the market. It cost them more money with Dak. It cost them more money with CeeDee. And in Micah's case the cost went up so high they decided to trade him.
This dude gets it.

Just like state income tax, the exposure and endorsement potential is what fans want to be true as if it makes their favorite team a preferred destination. If you’re a star player, particularly a quarterback, you can get endorsements even if you’re “unfortunate” enough to play in a backwater like Kansas City. The one time center for Philadelphia is making significant income from endorsements and he doesn’t even play anymore.

You want to believe Micah wanted to stay. You want to believe Dak’s willingness to go elsewhere had nothing to do with his getting an unprecedented amount of money. It’s not true.

(Note, while 34% of NFL franchises are based in no state income tax states, 12% of Super Bowl winners in the last 25 years are based in one of those states. 0% are based in Dallas, or Texas, despite the added benefit of endorsements available to players)

Micah wasn't traded because of money.

If anything, this works in Dallas’ favor in future negotiations. the fact that Micah and Mulugheta came back and tried to work a deal once their trade bluff had been called shows they really didn’t think the trade would happen

Now— The agent knows if he plays the trade card— JJ has proven he will ship a premium player away.

It’s pretty clear Parsons wanted to stay in Big D and was trying to force JJ into a deal.

Now— players that actually want to stay in Big D will be really careful before playing the “trade me” card— because they just might get what they are asking for lol

My guess is JJ and Mulugheta talk thru things so this outcome is avoided in the future. This wasn’t ideal for the player or the team
The way to “play” Jerry is to make it clear to him that you want to stay and will for a fair deal and have your agent do the negotiating from the beginning

Its not difficult

I've heard Micah is the best defensive player in football. Never heard Reggie White say someone can best him.

So your defense is…. He isn’t as good as Reggie White.

Great argument.

Meanwhile Erik Williams beat Reggie white plenty of times.

Jones could have signed Parsons last year for much less. They could have signed both Lamb and Prescott for far less if they had just been proactive about it.

If they could have only signed two out of the three then it should have been Lamb and Parsons.

Cowboys management handed leverage to Dak on a golden platter by offering zero alternatives.

Losing Parsons was just the trickledown effect of signing Dak to a ridiculous contract.

Yeah, stop entertaining clown agent crap for months and remind players that everyone is expendable.

And you probably would have been the first one complaining about signing a player early who turned up injured.

No my argument is Reggie never admitted someone could get the best of him. He would work to get better instead.

What would Micah do? Go to the sidelines slack bodied looking like he was about to fall asleep before getting on the air for his podcast the next day.
