Future of Hardy - Ware like money. Is that what the future looks like to retain him?

Anyone recall what Ware's Dallas contract was, and what he signed for with Denver.

Could that be what Dallas is looking to take on if he proves to be someone we want to keep long term.

Thanks for your insights/responses.

Think big difference is age. He'll still be young and can perform at a high level. I hope he stays if he performs well but if not thank you for a third round pick

I think Hardy is going to want close to Suh money. Cap goes up next year and so do FA signings.

I'm still of the mindset that this is a one year rental and Dallas makes no attempts to sign him long term.

IIRC Ware would have been due $10 to $12 range for last year with us, signed a 3 year around $10 mil per year with Denver, and I think most of it guaranteed.
Not sure what his numbers would have been this year if he stayed with us.

I think the same thing but at a point we are willing to pay him this year 13 million why wouldn't we sign a longer term deal for around same price ? I get it is incentive based but if he performs hard to argue resigning him

I think the one year thing was probably in big part something Hardy wanted, as much or more than the team. He gets an incentive based deal, and if he has a monster season not only does he get paid the incentives, he's going to get an even bigger contract next year than he could've this year, especially if he keeps his nose clean and doesn't have any controversy around him.

Exactly it's best for both parties. If he does go off I hope he stays. He can change that defense totally. It's funny how our defense is gonna have a whole new look w Lee back and hardy in the fold and some draft picks. Selvie carter durant Moore gone

I believe that 20 million was guaranteed for the 3 years.

They're not going to keep him long term. What are the odds he can stay out of embarrassing trouble for four or five years?

The girlfriend is out of the picture. Men mature as they get older (most of them anyway). Look no farther than Dez.

I don't know what will happen with Hardy. But it's not a given that he will screw up again. But he has to prove it. And he has a year to do it.

I agree
There is a very good chance we will be priced out
This is why our draft better be focused on the front 7

Well that sucks.

It seems we have him at a disadvantage now.

Should have took a shot with long term deal.

It's a gamble either way,

Maybe Jerry was too cautious.

Although I don't agree that he is leaving for Suh money. Jerry wouldn't corner himself like that.
There is probably a plan for long term on the low-low.

I just don't see Hardy getting out of town if he performs like 2012-13 and stays out of trouble. Elite pass rushers are hard to find and the team will want him back badly. Even if Lawrence takes a big step forward, the team will want him back. I wouldn't be surprised if he never reaches FA after the season.

If he has a break out year and remains clean off the field, a 27 year old pass rusher that averages about a sack a game, he is going to get big money. May not be exactly Suh money, but I think it will be close. It will be interesting how the next 11 months play out.

I doubt the Cowboys would be the highest bidder and Hardy's camp isn't signing an in season extension unless it wows them.

I think Demarcus Lawrence will go a long way toward deciding this. If he looks to be on the road to stardom, the Cowboys probably won't have much interest in Hardy long term at huge dollars. But if Lawrence doesn't give anyone any reason to think he's going to be a top pass rusher, that changes things. Retaining Hardy becomes a bigger deal.

Understood.

But Jerry is a smart man.

He does make decisions one step at a time. We've seen that.

You don't make millions like that.

I trust him on this one.

Not in season. Just before FA starts. Some teams will still shy away from him and the Cowboys don't have much money committed on the defensive side. Other than Carr, Scandrick and Lee, its low pay players. Rumors are they want a closer to 50-50 split of how the cap is split also. I don't understand why its being assumed he's just going to walk. Very few teams let a young, elite pass rusher walk unless its due to cap problems and the next few years of cap room should be a lot more team friendly.

Forgot about that added value of signing him as a FA if he leaves. Like you hope he stays, just got to thinking about what value he would bring $$$ wise and thought Ware would be a good starting point. Not the end of career version, but more prime type.
