Someone needs to cut back on the caffeine tonight... Or other substance.

Right back at you. Its not as if i brought it out of left field or made it up. Its pretty obvious that hes taking personal experience and projecting it here.

It was a case of mistaken identity and I apologize theebs.

You made some comment about how family members that have their handout always sound contrite but when they don't need anything or have F.U. money then they just go back to doing what they always do.

Sounded like it was from personal experience.

What? Where and when? Nothing about me disliking pacman comes from any personal experience what in the world are u talking about?

If youre going to attempt to pick a fight, at least get your people right.

This is the first step in getting us over the hump and getting #6 in the trophy case. I trust Jerry... even though he has googly eyes for McFadden. I'll look forward to seeing the official news story of the signing.

The reality? The Cowboys probably won't pick a CB in Round 1 if Jones has been signed, is nearly certain to be reinstated and hasn't lost his way in another strip club. That's the gamble, and it's real: Jones screws up, and Beetle Bailey is the third corner. It doesn't have to be that way -- the Cowboys could draft as if Jones doesn't exist -- but as Juke noted, there are problems with that scenario. I would hope the Cowboys cover themselves as much as possible by taking a couple of corners in the mid- to late-rounds. DBs are always useful on special teams, if nothing else.

Equally intriguing: Now the Cowboys have at least one premium pick (two firsts, one second) to, essentially, play with while still filling two pressing needs -- a backup RB and a WR. Do these sound like plausible scenarios?

1) Dallas stays where it is -- no trades -- and takes a RB, a WR and the player it finds most appealing at another position (NT, G, S, maybe a pass rusher)

2) Dallas trades a pick for a veteran wideout, and if the guy is desired badly enough, uses a second pick to up the ante and out-bid any competitors

3) Dallas attempts to trade up as far as possible to draft Darren McFadden

4) Dallas trades up more conservatively to draft Mendenhall or whichever WR it rates most highly

5) Dallas wants to trade up pretty aggressively but has targeted a premium player other than McFadden

The latter proposition is the most outlandish, but there nags at me a sneaking suspicion (or maybe I ate an undercooked vegetable) that Jerry Jones could have a surprise in store. Might he shock the world by trading up, then drafting a premium pass rusher? Unlikely. Still, a rotation of Ware, Gholston or Chris Long could, potentially, put waves of pressure on a QB. Keep the knives sheathed: It's just a notion.

But it's difficult to craft any scenario that allows the Cowboys to move up significantly in the draft after having used a first round pick to trade for a WR. The one obvious possibility is that the Cowboys think the second round is the value for wideouts and also are confident they can get a decent RB in Round 3. Those are tough assumptions, though, unless Jerry Jones is gambling that Pacman's return skills can put enough extra points on the board to preclude the need for a "sure thing" addition of oomph to the offense.

By adding another pass rusher, though, the Cowboys could shed Greg Ellis' contract. If, on the highly unlikely chance the trade-up target were a premium OT, the Cowboys could lift the franchise tag on Adams and create a great deal of room to pay a top wideout.
Draft run-up is so much fun.

Adams was signed to a long-term deal. Hamlin was the franchised player.

If the deal happens, I don't see it impacting the way the team drafts...

He's such a risk that I think it's almost like they have to draft as if they don't have him...

Or is that just my way of thinking? Opinions please. :D

initially I thought the same, but I can see us waiting till round 2 to draft a CB if we get Pac Man

We are thin at corner and, given our injury problems last season, we won't look deep even if Pacman is added. I think we still get a corner in Rd 1, pacman or not. I think adding Pacman might give Jerry the flexibility to move around a bit with one of the 1st round picks. So many teams are looking for help at CB that finding a starting caliber corner in the later rounds looks like a difficult task indeed. We'll see.

If Jones is brought in I would say it spells the end of either Roy Williams or Ken Hamlin in 2009. I expect Dallas to draft a Corner in the first two rounds and keep four deep this year to ensure Jones is behaved and Henry is healthy. Next year either Roy Williams or Hamlin will not be in the defensive backfield and Henry will be moved to Free Safety. If Watkins is ready to assume the other starting role then Williams and Hamlin may both end up on the move. The money that is freed up will be sent Newman's way and the 2007 DB Draftee will then assume the third Corner role.

Theory hat off!

I don't think the character thing is overrated. Im not worried about his influence. Im worried about the wasted roster spot and possibly lesser backup (because Jerry maybe not drafting a CB in the 1st with pacman) if he gets himself in trouble.

I don't think the character thing is overrated either and I do believe that Jerry will not take a CB in the draft and will try to move up and get McFadden if the PacMan trade goes through.

If that is the case then we cannot afford for him to mess up.

Bringing in Pacman Jones will not keep Dallas from drafting a CB in round 1, BUT it does give us the flexibility so that we don't HAVE to draft a CB in round 1.

If we get pac man.....and he doesn't start.....there will be complaining

Greg will start his moaning about feeling insecure....Paman will start his complaining, saying he thinks he should start, and if we don't want him, to trade him....RW will start pointing fingers if our D goes down hill.....Spears will start moaning once he gets benched....Akin will start his with his Greg ellis BS all through training camp and in the season because of Zach Thomas....Burnett will also be a soar grape, complaining about starting.....

sooner or later Bobby Carpenter will start with his antics, and so will Watkins

were gonna have a soap opera season folks......

But i really think RW or Anthony henry, will either get a position switch, a role change, or out the door, because i know jerry wont, have pac man sitting on the bench moaning in his ear and to the media along with Ellis and the gang

PacMan has character issues, and he has awesome talent that is NFL-elite caliber (remember when he shut down TO, and asked for his shoes?). He is a completely known commodity. Anyone drafted will be a question mark at both character and NFL ability... no one knows how a kid will act when he is an instant multi-millionaire, and we can all name numerous 1st round busts.

This may be a "the devil you know vs the devil you don't" decision for Jerry... we know the kid has game, we just have to manage his off-field shenanigans. It is also a very cheap way to potentially get a couple of years of awesome play out of a guy before having to make a "real money" decision.

I have been on the fence about this, but I think Jerry should pull the trigger. PacMan wants to be a Cowboy, and I think most people try very hard when they are in a job they love. He surely knows that he would be on his last chance in the NFL. He will not get a good contract... it will likely be incentive laced, and tied to performance and roster bonuses... He will be surrounded by guys that are high character, which also tends to lift people up... He will have Tank and TO on the team, which will be proof that good things happen to guys who get in line... He will have the ghosts of Antonio Bryant and Pete Hunter around to remind him of what happens to guys who do not get in line...

Ultimately, it will be a small financial risk with huge payout potential.

Do it.
