If Wade Phillips can't say something nice about a player, he usually doesn't say anything at all. And he almost always can find something nice to say. But he was downright gushing about linebacker Jason Williams.

Williams didn't have much to show for his rookie season. He missed the first three games with an ankle injury. He then played on special teams in only five games the rest of the way, making two special teams tackles.

But the Cowboys expect Williams, a third-round pick last season, to see time at inside linebacker this season.

"I think he's just going to get better and better," Phillips said. "He's a lot like [cornerback] Mike Jenkins was in that he tries to do whatever you ask him to do and he has talent, so he’s going to get better and better. We ask him to work on something, he works on, and he gets better at that. That’s kind of how Mike has evolved. It wasn’t all of sudden just put him out there and he play. Some young guys can do that and other guys come in and take a little while to get acclimated and get the feel for pro football. The speed of the game doesn’t bother him, though, I can tell you that. He is really fast. That’s a real plus. Not many linebackers that we have or anybody has can run like him. We’ve got high hopes for him this year."

Sounds encouraging. Hopefully he gets some playing time this year, stays healthy and competes for a starting spot next season.

Hopefully Wade's easy approach works as well as it did on Spencer.

I think at the very least he showed good instincts last pre-season.

Since he is such a hard worker he should be a heck of a player for us. His athleticism in the middle is exciting.

That is good to hear. A hard worker willing to do anything, while having natural physical ability. I'll be rooting for him.

I think the notion that Wade does not want to play young players took another hit. Wade wants to get these guys out on the field but they have to be able to know the job they are being asked to do. We can't have players busting plays because they get confused on what to do in any given situation.

Impossible, he has already been declared a bust on this forum.

That's actually really great news. I was thinking that because we hadn't heard anything about him, that the organization didn't like what they saw.

He only has to play at an average clip to displace the first round pick that just cracked the back-up squad in his 4th year - with an unremarkable performance IMO.

Wade's general inaction speaks louder than his pre-season words, but the departure of one or two of last year's vets will necessitate playing some of our younger in-house players given our FA inactivity.

Grumpy.

I think this is some of the best news I've heard in awhile. This guy has unbelievable speed for a man his size. If I remember correctly he's got sub 4.5 speed in the 40. When he learns how to cover he'll be like having another safety at the ILB position. And what an incredible weapon on the blitz.

I'm so glad to hear about his work ethic and dedication.

Fantastic news.

Well not only that, but didn't Richie Whitt grade him as an F?

Wade must be talking out of his arse.

I don't think JW was ready to play last year. In College he was more of a rush linebacker that played close to the line of scrimmage. A Small school guy with basic instructions. See QB/ball carrier. KILL QB/ballcarrier

The Kid Still Has a lot to learn before he is a complete NFL calibre ILB.
The "Ninny" is just the man to see that JW gets the learning he needs to take full advantage of all that potential. Just ask another "Ninny" product in Anthony Spencer or Mike Jenkins.

Not by me Hostile, i was all over jason williams before we drafted him and after, that he was a good linebacker. I was saying jason will be a very good linebacker kinda like thomas henderson in talent. I even put videos of him up before the draft etc... Or like you said about roy williams, or mike williams or chad jackson being talented wrs that would make it big time in the nfl.

You could see the talent when he came in for one play, caused a fumble in the endzone that resulted into a TD later.

Talent is there, but wade the ninny has to play him. He cant say, oh its my fault because i didnt play them enough on run blitz or pass coverage in training camp because i didnt want them to get hurt, the ninny wade.

Will they make mistakes, yes, but you learn from mistakes most of the time if your a good football player.

They see them through out the week they know better than some fan. You don't play pre-season football during reg season unless you are the Detriot Lions if you are playing to make the post season then you go with players you can count on and trust to know and understand the job.

Oh yeah, remember wade said after first 2 games, i should have played more on run blitz and pass defense, we lost the 2nd game against giants because we had to spend more time on run blitz then pass because wade admitted he blew it in training camp the ninny.

I had him projected as an all-pro when he was still in junior high school.

But why the hype on Jazz all of the sudden? Is Brooking getting old and slow????
