FWST Blog: Wade High on Jason Williams

I'm not saying he's going to turn out like LT.

LT like? I think his speed will serve him well in nickle situations but to be a top ILB he will need to show he can be physical on the inside in the running game to become a full time ILB

Not sure I get that comparison myself.

LT was obviously not an I-anything. He was a pure ROLB, outside pass rusher. He was also a crazed dog and that had little to do with this talent but more his personality and perhaps his off-field supplementation of choice.

JW has a high ceiling but a guy like Sam Mills seems more the mold.

Not sure how easy his approach has been with either player. Spencer and Williams both had splinter butt whereas a lot of 1st rounders would get handed 100% of the playing time.

As fans we take what gets said publicly as what really matters... whilst in a locker room it is clear that the important thing is playing time, starting jobs and future earnings potential or actual contracts handed out. Once a guy has the big contract and the guaranteed starting job all of a sudden he gets offended a whole lot more by what the coach says. I'd much rather get dog-cussed publicly but handed a starting job and a fat check then to be talked about as the next coming but benched.

Yeah, I was going to ask what that "easy approach" meant, too.

I only meant not rushing him into a starting position.

I was not complaining how Wade handled the young guys.

He has done a great job.

Parcells once commented looking back on LT's career that he didn't always follow his assignments, but he played so fast that he would usually make up for it. That's where I'm drawing the comparison from.

BTW JW drew comparisons to James Harrison from the guys at NFLDraftScout.com

LT one of the all time best OLB, hated seeing him 2 times a year along with Carl Banks and Harry Carson

Best news I've heard all week. I remember the few snaps he got in preseason thinking he was raw but ambitious. He was not afraid to hit and mix it up, kinda reckless from what I recall. I have full confidence Wade will fine tune this cat..

Now that would really fill a need if this guy develops into a strong starter in the next 2 years. ILB is a real need going for for us....especially by 2011.

been waitin for this good news. i think this kid is gonna be a peace

I really like Jason Williams.

If he's athletic as they say, I think he'll work out great in this defense - I just hope we don't draft anyone early to stall his progress. We already know rookies don't play on Wade's D, lets not log jam that position when we have serious needs at tackle, guard, safety, and wide receiver.

That's the way most LB's in this league are. They take time to develop and learn the pro-game. Bradie James took 3 years. You see it all the time in this league. There are exceptions....the three USC guys from last year, etc.

It's easy to compare them to RB's, but it's a totally different game as a LB.

Look at Kevin Burnett. That guy was all everything in college. I thought he was going to be a stud, but he turned out to be only serviceable role player.

Let's hope Williams can be more then serviceable.

For the record, I declared him a reach. It generally takes up to three years to know if someone's a bust or not.
Did we lose this week? Not used to seeing you post unless we lose.

Rick Gosselin ranked Jason Williams 84 overall in his Top 100, which is a 3rd round pick. I'll take proven track record of talking to real nfl scouts, gms, and coaches over Bach's opinion.

Coming from you I'm not surprised. You obviously just look for what you want to look for.

Based on this past season, it looks like you should've listened to me more.

Yeah, I guess Mike Jenkins sucks because he wasn't a pro bowler as a rookie either. Oops!

I would feel better about him if I didn't follow him on Twitter.

I think I'll stop.

Did DCC implode from the bile and have to shut down or something?

One - this thread isn't about Mike Jenkins
Two - where did I say Jason sucks?
Three - pro bowl? - heck, the guy barely made it on the field as a special teamer.

Right now it does look like he was a reach.
