As I said yesterday, this should not have been a discussion until people knew the details. Slamming T.O. before you knew even a single detail was ridiculous, I said yesterday that if it turns out to be something serious those posts were going to look heartless and plain ignorant - that's turned out to be completely correct.

I hope T.O. is alright, thoughts are with his family and I hope they get through this.

Apparently abersonc isn't man enough to stand up and say I shouldn't have said anything which could be taken as critical of TO missing a mandatory minicamp without knowing all the facts.

Only in the first post I made in that thread where I said something like "get paid, don't show up to work" was there anything that a would construe as an unjustified criticism. That post was wrong and the only one that I see that jumped the gun in judging TO. For every other post my criticism was qualified and/or about a different topic (e.g., whether it was valuable for veteran players to be in camp)

I stand by what I said -- TO has a legit excuse so there is no problem. If he didn't there would be one. You don't like that I won't give him an unconditional pass before hearing the facts? Fine.

Again the setting an example for the younger kids issue remains -- that point was expanded on in several posts.

I guess Wade doesn't share your sentiments on the importance of him being at the mini-camp. Maybe you should call him up and tell him he's wrong.

The absence of Owens and Glenn is providing an opportunity for Sam Hurd, Miles Austin and other young receivers to get extra snaps and more time working with Romo in practice. Phillips said Owens wouldn't have gotten "as many reps anyway in the minicamp" in an effort to take care of the veteran receiver.

It is about him showing the young guys that even a superstar is going to be there giving it his all every day.

Calling him out for not doing the right thing in your opinion.

I've said it before -- but what choice does the team really have when a player asks to be excused -- you could create a bad situation by saying no and fining the guy or you can excuse him. TO knew he'd get excused if he asked. My issue is that, unless this is a serious matter that could not be dealt with at another time (e.g., death in the family), then he shouldn't have asked.

In essence, saying he would start trouble if not giving permission.

Context -- that post was about how valuable it is to have a guy at practice even if he has other things going on -- Note that i said over and over again in clarifying that point that if he had a serious issue it wasn't a problem. The discussion there was about whether TO needed to be in practice or not and what value it was for him to be there even though he likely didn't need the work.

In essence, saying he would start trouble if not giving permission.

Context -- the issue being discussed was about "permission" -- my point was that I don't see being granted an excused absence as evidence of anything because ANY player (not just TO) who asks permission would likely get it because of the problems potentially associated with not getting permission (bad feelings, bad press). Again, not just about TO, this issue came up with Roy's excused absence as well.
