FWST: Team source says Garrett likely choice

I keep thinking of Sean Payton when he joined the Cowboys. He was the Giants OC and his last season about half way through they stripped him of play calling duties. He was let go and came to the Cowboys and a few years later he wins a Superbowl. Maybe not everyone thought he was the best OC or play caller in the world, but when given the reigns to his own team he turned out ok.

I am hoping that we find the same thing in Garrett. At least that is what helps me sleep at night when I think about the situation.

True or false I am already sick of the way the conversations are going about it here.

I think he is coming back without question and the big excitement is going to be who goes on the roster and the staff and who they are replaced with.

I just really have a feeling come monday morning its going to suck because it will be all rumors and guessing for 3 months about everything.

Draft should be awesome though.

Really? Going 4-4 and struggle against 2 of the worst team in the league in the Cards and Skins..... Not sure he the answer, but Jerry probably make another right choice again with Garrett.... He need somebody for a puppet anyway......

Until the GM is change then the Boys can take the next step to the Super Bowl.....
Garrett has been nothing short of amazing with the offense since Romo went down. I thinks that's how you can best judge a coach -- i.e., whether he can get a group without as much talent to over perform. Of course, he gets huge negative marks for the performance in the first half of the season.

Careful, your agenda is showing...

We played well in all the games, we didn't have one of those "just didn't show up" type of games that we have had under parcells and Wade, and really for a very long time.. i didn't see one of those... now the defense didn't show up for like every game, but that is something we get a DC for, not get rid of our rising star HC, who holds the players accountable..

We won some great games, woulda won more if not for a stupid fumble, and probably woulda won if not for a missed extra point..
Jason Garrett did everything right from what i have seen, if not for 2 mistakes that garrett has no control of we are probably 6-2.. and that is without Romo, Dez gone for alot of it, and our Defense giving the other team 30 pts a game..

if we can Keep Garrett, get a D coordinator who can keep the other team to say.. even 24 pts a game.. and have Romo Playing.. we are a team to be reckoned with..

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate.

Dez Bryant

This may be Jason Garrett's biggest mistake, imo. Some will argue that it's football. People get hurt....However, it was a special teams kickoff. I understand that you are trying to win games, but Bryant was put at more risk. His injury could have been worse. There is a reason why long legged, star WRs don't return kickoffs in the NFL. Dallas' opponents have stated that Bryant is the guy they fear the most at WR.

Returning kickoffs is one of the most dangerous jobs in the NFL. Roy E. Williams apologists will tell you that Dez is "injury prone" to argue for their guy to stay, but they will ignore the fact that he was hurt returning a kickoff.

Remember the Saints game when Dez lowered his head on that guy (on a kickoff), and there was a full speed, helmet to helmet collision. One of their helmets busted, and Aikman stated that Dez's ears were probably ringing after that collision. They showed Bryant shaking his head.

I wanted Dez off kickoffs right there and was surprised that they didn't pull him off them the very next week.

You saw why it is dangerous, and you saw the risk/reward in one game. Colts

Was the risk worth it?

I say no.

I'm o.k. with the punt returns, but returning kickoffs is more dangerous, imo.

I'm OK with garret .
I think he defnetly deserves a shot. But my only hesitation is ,with all the relationships and friendships he has on the team, will he cut those who need it without concern about relationships and do whats best for the team.

He lost six weeks during TC because of High Ankle sprain running routes. So I Guess they need to have him not practice a lot.

The injury was not due to kick returns, although I agree normally Kick Returning is more voilent part than punt due to punt you can call a lot of fair catches.

Its the way Dez does returns, punt or kick or run after catch. He is not a guy who gives up easy. That will be always a high risk proposition with him.

I always never liked Dallas not putting their best players on ST to keep them off injuries. Thats how you don't win games. Maybe you don't put Dez on every return, but you do put him there on special occasions, just like some teams do ala like Baltimore does with Ed Reed, although arguably he is their Best player.

Worst kept secret since 2007. Everyone has felt Garrett was the HC in waiting, and since he held his own since being the interim it's been almost a no-brainer. Fisher becoming available would be the only thing I could see that would've caused Jerry to have second thoughts. But there was no way Jerry was going to go with Cowher or Gruden or someone like that. Jerry's gotta maintain his control and comfort level. And of course, the latter is of utmost importance.

He lost training camp, because Orlando Scandrick slammed into him from behind (in a non-contact practice) and jumped on him and twisted around him around while on his ankle.

There is no doubt Bryant is a violent player, but there is also no doubt kickoffs are very dangerous, imo. Could Bryant get his ankle sprained or broken on the field of play, yes?

However, if you are not on kickoffs, you can't get hurt on a kickoff and your risk of getting hurt goes down, because you are not returning them. Bryant was hurt on a kickoff. There is a reason that the NFL has kickoff specialists, so star skill guys don't get exposed to extra risk. Broken legs happen...Guys running down full speed, heavy traffic, ect...

He wouldn't be back there anymore, but that is just me. Again, I'm o.k. with some of the punts. DeSean Jackson returns some of the punts, too.

I'm not sold on Garrett because he drove me crazy as on offensive coordinator. i will give him credit, only because he was able to get the players to play hard with a backup QB. Here is my own personal list on what will change my mind on Garrett.

1. He has to put his own stamp on this team. It doesn't need a whole overload, but for sure some players need to go. In my mind, Marion Barber, Roy Williams, Alan Ball, Kieth Brooking, Leonard Davis and Marc Colombo need to be replaced some how.

2. He better find a new defensive coordinator. We need to get rid of every defensive coach on this staff and start fresh on defense.

3. I hope he doesn't play favorites. I just hated when players were obviously struggling, and yet our coach kept playing them because they were either paid a lot or the coaches liked them personally.

4. I hope Garrett has a real physical training camp and let there actually be competition among the players. Don't just give players a starting position, let the players earn it.

Good Points.... I hope he can handle Jerry also, that might be the key issue for Dallas success

To me, those losses are more on Paul Pasbologna than on Garrett. Just look at how our offense and running game have improved since Garrett took over and that speaks volumes as to the direction of this team.

Let's get a real defensive coordinator in here and keep on rolling.

REally? Didn't know worst teams could beat teams in playoff contention like Jags? So what does that say about Eagles being beaten at home by Vikings by Rookie QB, with a chance to clinch playoff bye? Andy Reid is one mediocre coach who lasted this long I guess..

So are you saying that Washington and Arizona are not 2 of the worst teams in the league?

First, everyone in this thread has an agenda hopefully that's understood. Accountability, what has he done to hold players accountable besides saying that he will. After Columbo's performance last week, accountability would be to bench him and take a look at Young. Accountability would be to bench Barber after his penalty last week. Accountability doesn't consist of patting Buehler on the butt after missing a fg or Felix after fumbling in a crucial moment. So, if you don't mind, could you let me know where are the signs of accountability because I don't see them.

You got that completely wrong. Its was not a non-contact drill. It was normal TC material. Again, players do get injured even while just doing normal route running. PERIOD. Its not even a debatable point.

But with the way Dez plays there is always going to chance of risk of injury. There aren't many NFL Superstar type WR with return skills of Dez period. Normal return guys only specialize in that only. Much like Chicago has as their Punt returner.

ANyway, you put the best players in position to make plays, when that person is special at it. Much like Deion used to do for Cowboys.

Sure you try to limit injuries, but Dez was not and is not starting WR this season. So its really totally mute point to even make. Next year might be a different deal.

Already I'm so excited for a physical, focused, disciplined, hard working TC under JG. I truely believe this team was never in good physical football shape all year and that hurts your play mentally as well. Finally, a real Jimmy Johnson type TC is coming. These players better be ready. Our football team will be ready to roll and physically and mentally prepared next year. That excites me!!!

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
I agree 100%
