Collins is not a RT

I'm usually with you that the Collins-to-RT talk is nonsense, but that's because it goes on in-season after a full camp where we don't try him out at RT at all. Other than the few days of looks he got his rookie year, we clearly haven't been interested in that move. And then people create threads about how we should make the change for the playoffs. Silliness.

But now, with Free retired, and a weak RT draft in front of us, and OG depth available, it might make a lot more sense. Assuming, of course, we make the move in training camp.

Either as a full-time move or as a swing option if they like Green enough and don't think his injury issues are necessarily chronic.

So far the off season amounts to a whole bunch of unanswered prayers.

So, all is normal then....people on the edge....I will give them a push, so we don't have to read the crap...but another will appear..
It's like the walking dead, another zombie will come along with the same old stuff until all gets righted going into TC.....then they get a blow to the head....and all is well....LOL....

Ugh. Now you people are trying to move Martin?

Lol, Martin is an unlikely move but he played tackle in college. Again this is about the Cowboys trying different options to maximize value. Larry Allen was the best guard in Cowboys history and was more of a fit at guard than tackle. However, the Cowboys needed him to play lt one season and he made the pro bowl at a position he wasn't a natural fit for. We don't know if Collins or Martin will be fits at RT, but its worth atleast evaluating it as a possibility.

I like to maintain continuity on the line. We already have interruptions with Leary & Free leaving--the last thing we need is to add the switching of positions to the mix. Free is an easy upgrade. Green or Cleary or one of the FAs out there should be able to step in and provide at least what Free brought to the table. The alternative is weakening two positions.

If Cooper is legitimately able to compete with Collins, we are in deep trouble and made a huge mistake in letting Leary go.

I agree.

I think many people don't remember how much better Leary was than Collins last season.

Who are you?

I just read an article on ESPN a few days ago that says otherwise.

Executive vice president Stephen Jones was asked Tuesday about the possibility of La'el Collins playing tackle, a question many fans have posed over the last few months.

"We've visited about that," Jones said. "Obviously right now we feel good about Doug coming back and being able to do that. But if Doug were to retire or not be around or if something happened to him, than yeah, we've visited about who would have the best chance to go outside of our inside guys. I think [Collins] would certainly be an option."
Oh awesome a guy that has nothing to do with coaching makes a comment before the draft about being comfortable with what we have.....great. the coaching staff said earlier in last year's off season they tried him at tackle and he didn't look very good. So take that for what it's worth.

Collins is gonna play somewhere. It really comes down to who do we trust more - Cooper or Green? Best case scenario is Green is good to go and stays healthy so Collins can stay in his natural position. If not, then we have two question marks - can Cooper play and is Collins a RT?

Keep Cooper as the swing guard behind Collins. Draft a Tackle to compete with Chaz Green and if it falls apart then consider moving Collins to RT.

With Collins being a FA after this year, more than likely he will be looking for a big payday (if he plays well -especially as a Tackle ) considering he went undrafted. Either way - I would look to draft O-Line in 4th or 5th round if the right player is available.

Not to mention Martin is gonna get PAID at some point this year. His contract is also up !!

People will be surprised with the play of Cooper. His play will be masked by standing next to Smith and Frederick.
