Because I dont see how it does. You take one of the best run blockers in the game and you move him to a less critical run blocking position to accommodate a much lesser player. Just find a better LG

But you may not have a player that is better when TC rolls around. If that is the case, and Connor is clearly better as a RG then I move ZM.
If you find a better option, then sure, it's a moot point.

The guy I most wish to dump is Philbin.

I can agree there. There's literally two hall of fame players on that line and it's a major problem? Come on.

Unfortunately, who our OL coach is....is determined by personality conflicts and who is buddies with who.

It's of course not as noticeable when you're talking one position group inside of one side of the ball, but Philbin was as bad a hire as Nolan, relatively speaking.

If our week 1 lineup includes both Biadasz and McGovern starting we are in trouble..
You'd have to think you can live with either/or if one is upgraded.

How's that gonna happen? Draft is the only shot...and that player would still be a rookie.

I'll start with my conclusion:
- I reviewed all of this snaps vs KC/Saints/Washington.
- If only 1 interior OL is added, I would prefer to upgrade OC and play McGovern at LG.
- Obviously an All Pro upgrade at both positions would be nice, but unlikely this season.

LG Connor Williams struggled with penalties and was replaced for 4 games by Connor McGovern.
- The overall OLine didn't improve during that time and Connor Williams regained the starting role.

I had said prior to the McGovern experiment that CM would not be an upgrade over CW.
- i.e. I was not 'Pro McGovern'.
- Having said that, it was the logical decision to try McGovern due to CW's penalty issues.

McGovern Game Footage
- McGovern was better than I remembered.
- His issues were primarily mental (technique/awareness/angles).
- He has 'good enough' power and athleticism.
- He managed to hold up to Chris Jones in the KC game on most snaps.
- There were a couple of snaps where Jones whipped him, but Chris Jones does that to many OLinemen.
- The bigger issue was the overall OLine.
- If CM or CW had played between prime years Tyron and Frederick, then they would have been OK.
- Instead the OC was Biadasz and LT Tyron was out for 6 games.
- Steele is good at RT but not at LT. Nsekhe is a career backup.
- Summary:
- He looked capable but tentative. Almost like a young QB that has ability but tends to panic.
- I'm somewhat surprised they didn't give him another start.
- They won 2 of the 4 games that McGovern started at LG including the final 2.

OL Coach

- It has come out this off-season that the OL coach favored CW over McGovern.
- It was a McCarthy decision to try McGovern.
- CW didn't have penalty issues until McCarthy and staff were hired.
- The Packers OL under McCarthy were known for a specific method of holding.
- This holding technique was against the rules but subtle enough to avoid excessive penalties.
- I think the OL coach supported Connor Williams because he is the one that taught him to hold.
- There have been articles about the Green Bay holding technique and sports talk discussions about it.
- GB's approach was similar to the Legion of Boom and their approach to penalties.
- Basically the LoB strategy was that eventually the Refs would give up calling penalties.
- The league requires refs to limit penalties to keep game times within limits.

One key area where I don't agree with you is McGovern is on the final year of his rookie deal while Biadasz has a couple of years left. It isn't likely that McGovern will get a new deal, so guard will be a position of need again next year if we don't address it this year. I'd rather shore up that spot and see what happens with Biadasz or even Farniok at center. Center is a much easier position to protect if you have good guards on either side of him.

I did in fact watch Biadasz that closely early on. I posted accordingly.

If you recall early last season....when things were going very well on offense....people were all over Biadasz about bad snaps and getting pushed around in the run game.

I didn't agree based on what I remembered seeing.

BTW....it doesn't take much time to forward through to the offensive series.....so I did exactly that, for the games up to around then.

I felt like his play was above average overall. He did in fact get bullied a bit by Philly, but Cox and Hargrave make that understandable. The snap thing was almost a pure lie, and probably based on an Aikman comment during one of the game casts.

So....I was defending the guy if anything.

His play slipped off a cliff after Minnesota.

A few other things happened at the same time....McGovern replaced Williams and Collins replaced Steele. Also the offense as a whole went to pure hell. Are they related? Guess that's subject to debate in a large way.

Also.....I'm kinda confused.....do you like Biadasz and think he is fine as a starter or do you wish for an upgrade?

I think he showed admirably for his first year starting. But I think I can say he is no Frederick. Personally I think Center is the 2nd most important position on the line. So if you can get a blue chipper, do it.

Imo, we cannot pass up on high graded OGs for the hope and gamble that McGovern can suddenly up his game and be a fit starter for the
LG role.

1) McGovern had his chance at gaining the LG role when they benched Williams and implanted McGovern at LG.
2) McGovern failed at that chance, he was benched and the penalty plagued Williams regained his starting role.
3) OG and RB are probably the easiest position to transcend and adjust in the NFL,.
4) Usually a high regarded OG is an immediate plug and play guy;
5) McClay gave McGovern a 2nd round grade, thought he was too valuable to pass up in 3rd rd.
6) Philibin has never been fond of McGovern; wasn't here when we drafted him, forced to play him per team injuries, Covid
7) among the skinniest arms i think i've ever seen on an interior player; looks like Jarwin's arms

- Cowboys did not even invite Linderbaum in as a 30 day visitee, what's the likelihood of drafting him in the first rd ?
- Ironically Cowboys reportedly never interviewed McGovern but eventually drafted him in the 3rd round.

I would definitely not pass on Zion Johnson.

I don't know where the Cowboys heads are at with offensive line lately.

Maybe you are right. We shouldn't give up on McGovern so quickly. After all he is inexperienced so a few mental mistakes should be expected. But the same could be said of Biadasz. He seems to make a lot of mental mistakes as well. Maybe giving him another year to prove himself is the right thing too. The problem is, what if Linderbaum falls to them at 24 and Johnson is gone. Do you take Linderbaum or Green?

The fact is, except for RG, the entire OL can use an upgrade and Martin is not getting any younger either.
I don't think the gave up on him but knows he is not ready and they just wanted some film to teach him with. Some players need to see what the coaches see. With CWs penalties and pending FA seeing what they had at the time was probably smart not ideal but smart. Hopefully philbin sent the kid home after the season with the tape of his play so he can see what he needs to work on.

we have to make up for the two Conner failures. ...2nd and 3rd round respectively.

Sure would love both a OC and OG that can start from the draft...if I had to pick before they get offseason work i would pick OC....I just dont think Biadass can be more..McGov maybe can.

Bad Guard play next to an average Center makes the whole middle look bad even bad OC play next to an average guard can make the middle look bad. That being said you should be able to find someone a notch or 2 below Zack Martin to plug into LG, the whole concept of blowing 1st round picks on OL is insane. blowing a 1st rounder on your future LT OK, but blowing a 1st rounder on non generational OL talent is dumb IMHO considering you can find good talent farther down in the draft.

I would agree if we were picking higher...at our spot if there is not a no brainer sitting there the best OG/OC may not be bad. Of course I would also love to see a monster DT come our way.....

there are plenty of holes except for maybe CB they should be looking at available players, if the BPA is a OG OK but do not overlook DE, or DT, or LB because they need a 1st round OL to fill OG or OC. iF they go Offense 1st round then need to go Defense the next 2 picks. The defense while better last year is sorely lacking in talent along the front 7

Agree BPA is always the way to go. I also have been saying why do we need an O-line full of all pros to win over the last 20 years..other teams seem to figure it out with 1 or 2 above average OL at a time.

The offense seems to need All-Pro or close to All-Pro on all positions for the offense to be dangerous.

Its been that way for a while...yes every offense needs talent for sure, and I do think we overvalue some of our talent, but its crazy how long teams have said something like "We knew what they wanted to do"

There is something about him to me. He plays with a attitude and in the few snaps we seen he was always in good position and gets to second level well. time will tell if he’s a player or not but I sure wouldn’t be shocked if he didn’t win the center job. But if not he’s probably a better swing guard/center option than MCGovern. The one thing that gives MCGovern an advantage as the swing is he blocks well from FB or TE position which isn’t easy out in space
But he’s also in his 3rd year so he’s certainly gonna be just like CW when he hits FA. Those just aren’t the type of players to give second contracts to
If you just churn them you may eventually get a guy in the same zip code talent wise as Martin

It's the same issue as with McGovern & Biadasz.
- Any of the 3 can likely be 'good enough' if they have quality player on either side of them.
- The issue last season was having CM or CW next to Biadasz and often next to a LT that was not Tyron.
