I'd be THRILLED if Garrett gets the Denver job. Just something to get him the heck out of Dallas. I'm hoping this all happens pretty soon too. I'd like to see Dallas moving forward in looking for a new OC quickly.

Even if Garrett leaves I still don't see Jerry going back and then trying to demote, and if that didn't work fire, Wade in order to get Mike. I'd be pleasantly surprised, and shocked, if that were to happen.

I am not overly excited for Garrett to go other than it may expedite the depature of Wade Phillips. That's about the only reason. I am sure if we handled it right and got Garrett the kind of help he had with Sparano and an effective handler for Romo, he'd be fine.

I am more concerned about if we kept Phillips and then filled Garrett's position if he left. I have no idea what that would bring.

and both had very nice first seasons as a HC. Let's not put Sparano on our list of great coaches just yet. I do recall him being widely hammered here over and over - you could do a search on the phrase "time for a real O-Line coach" and come up with about a billion posts.

Just like Payton was hammered and just like Red is getting it now.
He was bashed. But not by me. I was pretty upset that he was demoted when we brought Garrett in. I ranted about it for a good long while, so there's plenty of evidence of it.

What kind of genius offensive coordinator needs someone holding his hand like that?

If you need that kind of help, how can you really be that great?

Move opened cap space: When the Cowboys promoted tight end Rodney Hannah from the practice squad for the final week of the season, they also created $5.7 million in salary-cap space for 2009.

Hannah could have received the $5.7 million had he blocked four punts in the season finale at Philadelphia, but he was not active. By not reaching the incentive, that money rolls into the '09 cap.

Some of that money will be eaten up by incentives – like the $1 million Zach Thomas received – but the Cowboys figure to have around $10 million when free agency begins in March.

What kind of incentive bonus is that? Has a player ever blocked 4 punts in a given year? Also, $10 million, is that all? Wow, maybe cutting/trading T.O. isn't a good option at this point.

If only Garrett would have taken the Ravens' job, we'd have likely had Cam Cameron in here and would be in the playoffs right now.

It's just a loophole used to push cap space through to the next season. They had no intention of him getting the 4 blocked punts.

Interesting. I'd take that job in a minute. Great owner. Great. Great city. Wonderful climate. Premier job in NFL.

Cutler might be the perfect match for Garrett. He has that deep cannon that Garrett likes to use 20 times a game.

not to mention their Oline is quick and agile, and zone-blocks

I don't know. Everybody like the flavor of the week but I think we need somebody who is more of a basics kinda guy. To be honest, if we lost Richie Cunningham, I'd like to see us hire Russ Grimm.

He's the kind of guy I think we need. He would emphasis the run game and balance the offense. I think he understands how important a balanced attack is and he is a no nonse kinda guy.

I would like Grimm if the opportunity were there.

Don't know if they'd let us have him, but I like that idea. He could help us build a team like the Titans, Panthers, or Steelers that run it and play tough rather than finesse.

Let us have him? Isn't he the O-Line coach there? I thought the guy who left Dallas for there was the OC in Arizona.

If my thinking is correct, and it's probably not, can they actually stop him from talking to another team about a move that would be an advancement?

Why not Shanahan for OC if Garrett leaves? Since we are loosing our supposed coach in waiting, why not replace him with one that will most likley end up coach in 2010?

Garrett's interview is going to be pretty short

as far as listing his credentials:

"um, I was the backup QB to Troy Aikman for forever, and he said I was essentially a coach on the bench, then my offense in '07 was 4th in the league"

So you are making a point about how you were right about Sparano.

And I'm making one about how fans need to be careful about getting too high or too low on someone after a good or bad year.

I still say this for the record. Garrett is going to be a good coach - but he's young and you will get up and down performances from someone who is still learning.

I am making the point that some fans aren't just down on him for having a bad year. Some fans didn't think he was qualified when he showed up, and are worried that he in fact is in over his head.

I have no idea why you'd think that he'll be a good coach one day.

It's a special feat to turn this offense into a complete bust.

thats what happens when you have a QB who doesnt care or get mad when he turns the ball over...
