Sources: Ravens offer coaching job to Garrett
Updated: January 15, 2008, 12:35 PM ET

Sources told ESPN's Ed Werder that Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has been offered the Baltimore Ravens coaching position.

Garrett has not made a decision yet.

The Ravens are seeking a successor for Brian Billick, who was fired after the regular season.

Garrett, who arrived at the Ravens' training complex for the second interview on Tuesday morning, was the first candidate to have call-back sessions with the Ravens and Falcons.

Garrett, 41, is a veteran of three seasons as an NFL assistant. He was hired by the Cowboys as offensive coordinator in 2007, after two seasons on the Miami Dolphins' staff. In 2007, he presided over a unit that statistically ranked No. 3 in the league, but struggled in the final month of the year and in Sunday's playoff loss.

A former Princeton quarterback, Garrett played 12 seasons in the NFL as a backup, serving stints with Dallas (1993-99), the Giants (2000-03), Tampa Bay (2004), and Miami (2004). He also played in the World League (1991) and in the CFL (1991).

Ed Werder covers the NFL for ESPN.

Well, if Jerry has intentions of firing Wade, we'll find out awful quick.

I know he's denied it, point-blank, but that's hardly concrete.

Only good part of this is "Garrett has not made a decision yet." If he takes it I can't blame him but I hope he choose to stay.

Just my personal opinion, but I don't think Garrett is ready to be a HC yet.

I think he made great strides as an OC in his first year. But I think he learned a heck of a lot and could have used 1 more year of seasoning.

I know Garrett is "hot" right now, but I'm sure someone else will be the hot name end of next season.

I prefer to go with Wade 1 more season, though I'm probably in the minority.

I'm curious why Garrett is viewed as some sort of demigod around here and by alot of the so called media. The offense he took over was already good statistically, and they weren't exactly lighting up the scoreboard when it mattered.

I'd be interested to see him go to the Ravens just to see how much of a "genius" he really is.

I'm with you. I think Jason would be better off gaining more experiance than he currently has but again I would not blame him for jumping at an oppertunity. As for Wade I'm not big into firing coaches who helped put together a very good season after 1 year.

I think the Ravens gig is going to be tough for him to pass up. They have pretty good personnel and a good GM. Hate to see him go though.

Dead on IMO. Plus if we fire Wade we go though another season of another defensive system, assistant coaches, etc...

Well we're going to see just how bad Jerry wants to keep Jason now.

we'll first find out if garrett came back to dallas because he wanted to or to advance his career overall. if he chooses to go, i hate to lose him but would wish him well just the same.

R.J. turns top 5 offenses into....top 5 offenses.

He also takes guys like Joey Harrington, Daunte Culpepper, and Cleo Lemon and doesn't improve their play at all.

I think the question you have to ask yourself is, why WOULDN'T someone want to hire a guy with that resume?

Jerry made a mistake making it public that he was interested in JG as a head coach or offensive coordinator. He was flying pretty low under the radar until that point.

With Garrett's wife flying out to Baltimore, I'm thinking Garrett is probably gone . . . . maybe they are going to introduce them to the fan base, press, etc.

Let's see . . . .

This is nothing more then an IQ test.

Wait for the golden opportunity or jump to a lesser spot now.
