Man, smh. He was the one thing you didn't like....why? You guys are just a piece of work.

You can stop including me with "you guys." I speak for myself, and I don't speak for others.

What did he do that I should like? Serious question. What did you see from him that I should like?

The one time we needed him to throw the red flag, he didn't. Other than that he just walked around smiling, spitting and clapping. Oh, and slapping guys on the back after a good play or series.

I don't dislike the guy, I just don't see him doing any coaching. Not talking to other coaches, not going over to the bench to talk with a specific unit, the OLine or Dline.

I just expect more from an NFL head coach.

Jerry has stripped him of those duties for a reason.

:), not even a close comparison, and I can say that with confidence. I watch the posts of most of the guys who have supported Garrett from the beginning, because I'm one of them. I can tell you that most of those guys are thoughtful posters who just want the Cowboys to win. If firing Jason Garrett would produce a consistent winner, I would be the first one wanting to see him go, and I can that with absolute sincerity. I just happen to believe keeping him here is what will produce a consistent winner. Still do. The particular guys I have in mind on the other side of the ledger have one drum and one drum stick, and they pound that drum every single time. And you will never see them budge.

People will budge when we start winning and it's really that simple. Winning buys the coach and front office credibility. The flip side is losing buys them criticism and they've earned it up to now.

:)... WV, in all seriousness, not the back and forth stuff. Think about what a walk around head coach does on game day. Just think about it. When did he do his "coaching?" And on game day, what is his role? Garrett and his staff put together a great plan, they executed it, he did his job, they did their jobs, team won. End of story.

No they won't. There are some who won't. Guaranteed.

Cmon man. He's not just discussing anything. That is when guys lose credibility with me (not that they care), when they can't even be honest about what they are doing or someone else is doing. Khiladi wouldn't give Garrett credit if he called all 11 offensive players to the sideline, direct snapped it to himself and ran it in from 99 yards out. He would say Linehan's play call and Calahan's one man zone blocking schemes explain it all. :) I can give you a list of guys on this forum who will NEVER say Garrett is a good head coach regardless of what the Cowboys do. I could put money on that list and make a killing.

It's been a good discussion with the normal nitpicking. I always wonder why people don't use their ignore button if certain posters bother them so much. I might be on your list re Jason but I like the delegation going on amongst the coaches & am glad Jason is just roaming the sidelines keeping everyone on their toes.

Oh yea. I'm female. C'mon man!

In this article, Jerry Jones specifically mentions Garrett as interfering last year in the play-calling of Callahan. And that he is taking him completely out of the picture. This clearly demonstrates also that there was no plan in this matter as far as Garrett's 'process' is concerned.

But it was the offense that [Garrett] had had since [he] had got there and it was very difficult. That’s why we had such a tough time articulating it early. That’s why we made some of the switches we made during the middle of the season.”
Garrett’s decision to modify the mechanics of the play-calling process before the team’s Week 12 victory over the New York Giants
With Linehan on board, Garrett doesn’t have those reservations and will be free to turn his attention to the defense, an area in which Jones wants his coach actively involved.

You call it interfering yet Jason took it upon himself to make changes in week 12 in large part because Callahan more of a west coast disciple vs what Garrett wanted. Why Linehan? Maybe because he had a working relation with Linehan and feels more comfortable letting Linehan run the offense.
So this tells me it was Jason who did not want Callahan making the calls and if he was a puppet to Jerry then all Jerry had to do is tell Garrett to back off which Jerry did not.

Good points WV. There were a couple of calls the HC has to make. The one was the throwing the red flag on the reception and subsequent fumble. You're up big and can put it away at that point. The timeouts mean very little at that point because of the score but you can put the game away if the call is overturned. The reward at that point in time on a play so close was worth the risk of losing a time out.

The other play is 3rd and 1, we're driving and need to score because the Saints have pulled to within striking distance. A HC has to call that timeout from the sideline to avoid the delay of game and losing 5 yards. Instead, we get the penalty. That's huge.

What was his job while they executed the great plan?

Do you really think ANY head coach worth his salt, in any sport, .. does not coach during the game? At least a little?

Like I said earlier, you can be pleased or impressed by that, .. I am not.

Fair enough. I am impressed, you can go on being unimpressed :) Enjoy the season!

I haven't read through all of the posts in this thread (yet) but I assume a lot of them are exactly what I have to do here. I am one of the guys that put most of the blame at Garrett's feet. Especially when the team appears to be unprepared, making mistakes, committing penalties etc.

You gotta give the man his due. Last night he had the team well prepared, intense, ready to play. I must give the man credit. He did a great job during the week. Not only can't you take that away from him, but you also have to tip your cap to him. A tremendous job.

This one post made my day, and gives me hope for Cowboys fan humanity. And I'm not kidding. Thanks Dupree! Objectivity... refreshing.

If you can give me reasons or show me why I should be impressed by Garrett, .. I will try to see it.

I have asked a few times in a few different ways, .. what does he do, why should I be impressed this season after all that has happened and all that I have seen since he has become the head coach?

Actually I was in favor of him being the head coach and thought he would be good.

Friend, I've given enough reasons to convince the man who wants to be convinced. I think I will have to leave the convincing to you. We can just agree to disagree. Like I said, I'm happy. I hope over the course of his time here you can be happy with him too. But if not, enjoy the games, there are only 16 each season.

By the way, anyone notice the Landry tribute at the kneel down last night. Classy move by the head coach. Thankful for a guy who gets something about our history.

Still won't give Garrett any credit whatsoever, eh; any credit at all without being a negative Nancy? Ummm, okay.
I like you, so I'll give you a pass.

I still don't trust this team or him so I won't give them any credit other than we played an amazing game yesterday.

Keep winning and i'll eventually come around.
