i have no problem with Marinelli, so far his DL is doing good with what he has, a lot of bums were here before Rod and company.

The DL is hardly doing good. They are looking like the bums they are. There is some degree of responsibility on Marinelli.

No, he is not the GM. He is not in charge of getting what he wants. But that DL was horrific and it was not purely being physically outperformed, which points to talent. There were some obvious football fundamentals that did not show up in that game. That is on the coach.

Do you really think like this or are you mocking someone? What response would have been acceptable?

I'm curious to that myself. I get the feeling whatever would have come out of Garrett's mouth would have been snarked to death by our good Alex.

I could be wrong though... it's happened before.

"The discipline wasn’t very good, the gap control wasn’t very good, it wasn’t very physical, we didn’t tackle very well, we didn’t run to the ball well enough, we didn’t make enough plays,” Garrett said.

Gotta love the hate-baiting title the writer used. The funny thing is that if he said, "it's part of the process to improve" or "we'll get better" or something like that, some fans would complain about that. If he said nothing, some fans would complain about that. He comes out and lists exactly what we all saw in the game, and some fans complain about that.

Honestly, I'm not a big Garrett fan at all, but I'd rather the coach come right out and state things like this than sugarcoat them or blow it off as just part of the "process". I don't see him setting up any coach or throwing them under the bus for blame later with his comments. It's simply admitting that the team played poorly and they have a lot of work to do.

Given how many defensive starters we were missing, I'm not surprised by the subpar level of play. That said, I was very disappointed with the horrible angles, lack of gap control and absolute pathetic tackling by the defense. That is something I feel the defensive coaching staff will address heavily this week.

Not firmly convinced of that at all. Marinelli came in tow with Kiffin. And I don't think even Kiffin was exclusively a Garrett recommendation.

I'm sure Jerry was on board but I don't believe he tells Garrett who he is going to bring in to coach. I'm sure Jason discusses it with Jerry. And Jerry is going to ask around. My guess is they will find a coach they both agree on should there be major disagreements.

I have no doubt that the coach can't simply dictate who he brings in. Jones has to agree. Just like he flushed out who Wade Phillips wanted, multiple times. Depends on his mood. Sometimes he tried thngs like getting Capers or Reeves in here until someone whined. Other times he blatantly stood in the way of what the head coach wanted.

It is not a case where the coach ever has the mandate. He has to get it "approved" and that often means getting the Jerry Jones circle of trust's seal of approval. And then it comes down to his mood in general, and who he feels like overruling. This is not a democracy where votes count.

I am very curious about Rob Ryan. It is clear by the way he was flushed that it was not a mutual agreed upon hire.

Also loved this. This is the "Last-Year-of-the-Contract-Garrett" and I like it. The truth is the truth. Can't go wrong with that. Just keep trying to fix it. He can only work with the money Jerry has and the bodies Jerry provides him.

This is my thing, I have no problem with losing the first preseason game or the defense looking terrible. What did people expect us to play the best ball we ever had? Is good we had mistakes, now we know what we need to improve on. The biggest of all was how many young guys was getting to play, how do you develop young guys? Game action.

Guys that didn't play on defense that are starters or role backup players. .........
Church, Carr, Claiborne, Scandrick (almost entire starting secondary) Selvie, T . McClain, Melton, Spencer, DLaw, Bass,(could be starting DL by week 6) R. McClain. That is amazing that the defense we had out there defeated SD number 1s, gave up yards but 3 drives only allowed 3 points. The defense will be better.

Offense was moving the ball at will and they were without. ......Romo, Dez, Murray, Witten, Dunbar.

Call me whatever you want but I see that once those players are in the game you will see a different team. We will look back at this moment and say remember when Dallas lost that first preseason game with all those rookie and 1st year players and they got to play the entire game. .... glad that got that experience early in camp on the road to the Superbowl

I loved what he said. He pointed out this was how he wants his football team to play. So we know what Jason wants. Ahmad is a Garrett Guy. I see Jason using that performance from this point forward as an example to the new guys to match that level or else.

He really does seem like either he has been holding back or he has finally taken the course on Coaching Psychology 101.

I thought the same thing:)

But, seriously, I can easily think of a thousand things I'd rather be doing on a sunny day than sitting there.

Don't the guys that go to press conferences get paid to go to press conferences? Seems like a waste of time if you have 10 people there.

Yes Jerry wanted Reeves in here and I agree Jason bucked it which is understandable. I think he should have picked Reeves brain all day and night but IF it was forced on him then he did the right thing in refusing it. He can't have Jerry pulling that nonsense.

It is not a case where the coach ever has the mandate. He has to get it "approved" and that often means getting the Jerry Jones circle of trust's seal of approval. And then it comes down to his mood in general, and who he feels like overruling. This is not a democracy where votes count.

No coach but one who is the coach and GM gets to hire and fire without the GMs approval.

I am very curious about Rob Ryan. It is clear by the way he was flushed that it was not a mutual agreed upon hire.

I think Rob and Jason didn't get along personally and possibly coaching wise. If that's the case then Rob needed to go. I think it all points to Jason being in charge of the things most HCs are.

There was horrible gap integrity.

lets try to remember they kept the starting DL out of the game.So basically the DL that started wouldnt been playing later in the game when the talent was probably on par with their abilities. Clearly Dallas wanted to give these young rookies a crash course on experience. IDK what people were expecting when the announcement of all these starters being held out of the game.

Now me i want to see this starting defense on the field. Some guys were banged up, but some were held out. I want to see them on the field because basically they need all the reps they can get. But i understand this team is playing it more cautious then previous yrs. But dallas is doing basically what most teams are doing. Keeping their stars out of these first games.

What Dallas did find out was they got some depth at Safety, and CB. Found out that Hitchens is a player and has very good football instincts. And atleast from my untrained eye they had to have found out that Wilson isnt going to give them very much. I really dont know why the team cant just cut ties with these failed project types. And Hollomon was bad.
