Nothing is guaranteed but you don't give up on him after one year. He is in rehab and you hope that he comes out and gets it together. If he doesn't, you get rid of him. If you get rid of him now, you may be watching him sacking the qb on ESPN in a different uniform in two years. I'd rather see if he can overcome his demons while on a cheap rookie deal than let him get it together somewhere else and that was my point.

I'm not in the cut him camp, but at this point, the best case scenario is he's becomes a productive progress stopper. Assuming he gets some control over his addiction, he's still one failed test, one stressful situation, one relapse away from a year long suspension, which means there's no way one could justify counting on him in the future, even if he gets himself together.

I honestly would not shed a tear if he is getting 10+ sacks a season for another team because I just don't see him doing that here.

Guys is plural. Ro is obvious. Unless there's somebody in trouble we don't know about, it could be Gregory.

Of course, he could be referring partly to Hardy, too.
I also think Gregory is obvious also, you cannot build on a foundation with him as a key ingredient.

I had a friend that smoked for years...then tried to get clean. It literally took him almost a year before he finally could pass a pee test. And he tried all the gimmicks to get clean...Gold seal....Drano....Detoxify LLC Instant Clean...Clean slate....He tried it all...And the only thing that really helped him was this stuff called Mexico hot box. Said it burned like hell...but least he could get a job.

He should have tried Liquid Plumber. :D

Should Jerry share his Johnny Walker Blue Label with them as an alternative to weed? Naw, they've got enough problems already (sigh.)

You draft your own problems. That's what Dallas has done with DLAW and Gregory. They chose to sign Ro and kept him around so now we're dealing with the consequences. They failed to correctly evaluate these players. All 3, even Lawrence, had character issues before Dallas signed them.

On the other hand, the NFL absolutely needs to stop testing for marijuana. All it does is make the NFL and it's employees look bad to the public. As long as they test for it they will continue to catch guys because most do it. It makes sense just to stop all the negative PR surrounding suspensions in the NFL. They hand out pain pills like candy but just say no to pot? NFL partners with beer companies but no pot? The NFL looks very hypocritical in this and nobody talks about it.

Randy Moss and Warren Sapp failed drug tests to get in the league.
Arguments about just taking guys off the board altogether for failed pot tests are gonna leave you missing out on a whole lot of elite talent.

The NFL needs to stop testing for it and the team needs to be worried about the kind of guys they draft not a failed test for a drug they likely ends up legal.

Guys can drink all they want, but weed is a no-no. Lots of potential for pain management with weed - lots of guys use it for that.

Completely ridiculous rules. If you aren't in the program, you get tested once. generally in April or May. pass that test and you can use drugs (not peds) all season. There are 100s of guys smoking weed all season.

The league doesn't care about testing. They care about suspending enough guys to create a public perception that they do

How do you come to your conclusion that "most" guys smoke pot?

They will never stop testing for it until it is no longer a Federal Felony. It is still illegal in most states too. Beer is legal, Cigarettes are legal and if Congress + President pass a Federal Law they may stop testing...not until.

That's what I don't like people clowning on the right kind of guys with Jason. He didn't want these guys to begin with. It would be a different had he had control. We wouldn't have drafted Gregory for one thing. And that not a total endorsement of garret, I'm just saying he's catching flack for jerrys whims.

True, but at the same time, it doesn't paint him in a positive light that he's willing to go along with that situation, does it?

I'm not a Garrett supporter, but I put more blame on Jones for these circumstances than I do Garrett. I think that he'd like to have a team full of quality individuals, but the 'ol Wildcatter can't help himself but to chase a bargain that ultimately blows up in his face.

Actually it is pretty likely to be bargained out the next time the CBA comes up.

You could be right...Still it's a fair number of years until that mess happens again. The bargaining is the thing and most things get
bargained away as long as more money comes with it.

More blame should be put on Jones. But seeing FA's and draft picks blow up in his face gives me reasons to believe the rest of the FO won't support him as much going forward. Much like the story about Manziel and Jerry getting no support for that pick the same could happen for getting troubled players in general.
