This is the perfect time for Jerry to take over as the "walk around" head coach assuming he can keep the rest of the staff intact.

Maybe he wants more power in the organization?

Hire and fire staff?

More say in personnel?

Player discipline?

What's it going to be then, eh?

Garrett was already at the midpoint. Rex Ryan got a decent raise. John Fox was pretty cheap considering his experience.

Looks like the problem was Red was already overpaid and now obviously wants top money for a HC. Chip Kelly was way overpaid and maybe going for that type of dough. Jethro has quite a connundrum on his hands. His own fault though.

Write the 8 mil dollar check, make Linehan the highest paid oc and give Rod a nice raise and let's get back to work.

As much as some people want to believe that Red hold all the cards in this situation, the truth is that he doesn't and JJ knows it.

If another owner tried to sell Jason Garrett is a great hire their team would be flooded with angry calls.

Give Jason $1M (Walk around) cash, $500K/win, $1M Playoff win.

8-8 is $5M.
This year is would have made $8M
Superbowl gets him $10M +/-

Well, if you wanna use the "rings" argument you gotta count rings bro.

Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien, Doug Williams, . . . . . . . . . . . even E-Lie. Red has as many rings as E-Lie.
So has Red J
So has Garrett.....lol

Neither did it as a HC....

there's a difference btw winning a ring riding the pine as a backup QB and winning it by building one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history.

Maybe Jerry ought to pay Garrett $6m per year for next 4 years with $250K bonus if he wins NFCE and extra $250K if he wins NFC and another $500k if he wins SB. Garrett should seriously consider that. And I am sure Jerry would be glad to pay those bonuses to satisfy his ego. Oh, and of course the obligatory membership in the jelly of the month club.

Let's just hope that Jason isn't telling Jerry "If you want me to give up the money you have to give up the meddling"...

It's interesting. Even without a cap to worry about, posters who don't like Jason Garrett still want him to get paid less. Why is that? He's taking money from Jerry in this situation, and there's a lot of overlap between posters who don't like Jason and who don't like Jerry. That would seem like a win-win.
It's probably because a big deal for Jason in some way validates that the guy actually is a good head coach. But that cow has already left the barn, hasn't it? It's a foregone conclusion that a fairly long extension is in the works. Jerry's going to make him the highest paid coach in the NFCE (you never know, but I think that's probably a safe bet given that Chip's deal is a couple years old at this point). I think that whole argument against JG has been put to bed, hasn't it?

I'd just like to see a good deal get done and the team on to securing the coordinators. Once that's done, I feel pretty good about our ability in VFA and in the draft to continue to find and develop young players. I think we're far from a shoe-in for front-running for a Super Bowl next season and beyond, but I do think we're looking at some salad days in terms of being competitive here. Young, with a good cap and very obvious needs to fill. Hard to mess it up. The biggest question hanging out there now is what we do to develop some players in the pipeline at the QB position.

Garrett just beat Chip Kelly for the NFC East crown. I'm sure his agent is constantly reminding the Jones of that and asking for Kelly's $7Mil salary as a starting point. Could be interesting.

Jay Gruden makes $5 million a year. Wow. I think Garrett should be above Arians and below McCarthy.

The fact that Garrett was already 11th out of 32 without making the playoffs before is pretty generous imo. I think after this season he should get a little more though. The ten guys ahead of him all have made it to the Super Bowl with the exception of Chip Kelly.
