Gathers bump Escobar?

It wouldn't surprise me if Escobar is cut if injuries don't hit the TEs.

Doubt we cut him. There's a potential supplemental pick there and I'm sure teams think we have no clue how to develop TEs. That and the fact that we drafted him to fit as an outside TE but never really ran the 2 receiving TE offense will make several teams interested.

If he loses his job while on PUP (which is undoubtedly where he starts the year), we'll just never activate him.

Does Gathers bump Escobar off of the roster? At this point Escobar is ONLY a red zone threat and can't block for ****. Gathers is bigger, stronger and is probably a better red zone threat than Escobar without even playing for the last 10 years. He clearly has the mass to block. So it is POSSIBLE Escobar gets cut eventually if the roster spot comes down to him or Gathers.

I expect Escobar to be on the pup list to start the season. That might be a good thing for him in this case. Discuss?

LOL

Gathers has the size to be a blocking machine. Whether or not he develops the ability to do that is yet to be determined. I don't think has much to offer in the getting seperation and pass catching arena.
Would he be blocking torsos or helmets?

I think if he flashes in the preseason and we have no injury issues he will get the nod over Escobar. Escobar hasn't shown me a damn thing + injuries.

If he gets on the roster and Escobar doesn't it will because of injuries to Escobar and another.

Gathers is going to make this team for multitude of reasons. Henis a project with a high ceiling that needs development. He is git a lit to learn for a complex NFL position. Dint expect much from him. By mid year and beyond his use will be primarily close to end zone winning jump balls using his natural atheletism

Will he bump Escobar? Yes because Escobar will probably end up on PUP list given his injury and how late in the year it happened.

The better question is will swaim make this team? And right now it's between swaim, a 4th RB or a FB.

Gathers need to learn basic blocking given his size and some basic routes.

If he can block then he might bump Hanna of the roster.
Escobar is fast and can make plays down the field, so ideally Rico & Gavin would make the more dangerous pairing. If Gathers shows that he can run routes and catch passes consistently, then he easily makes the team because of bis size.
He won't bump Hanna given Hanna is the primary back up and our best blocking TE in the roster.

I doubt Rico dresses for a game this year and I'll also be surprised if someone doesn't sign him off our practice squad so if he does make the roster it will probably just be to avoid giving one of our draft picks away.
Escobar isn't a bad TE, in fact I suspect he ends up going elsewhere and being a very good receiving threat. No TE is going to excel here with Witten absorbing all the stats, not that I'm complaining. The day Witten retires we need to hire him back as the TE coach and rookie mentor guy epitomizes what a Dallas Cowboy should be and he deserves a SB ring before he exits.

Escobar has never been used right. He's not a blocking Tight End and that's fine. The spots where they've used him, He's been effective but as a second round pick, Everyone wants to see more production. It's going to be tough for any Tight End as long as 82 is still effective. And I like Hannah. He's turned into a good blocker but he was a pass catching Tight End in college. I would like to see him get more chances in the passing game
