Why would they? No one even wanted to draft him but i'm suppose to believe someone will invest 1 of their 53 spots in him? He's raw and he's not ready to contribute this year.

Idk where you're getting that nobody wanted to draft him because that's definitely wrong. He had lots of teams at his workouts and he was going to be snagged in the next round if we hadnt taken him when we did. Hes a project but his upside is serious. Ala Jimmy Graham

Escobar is rehabbing from an Achilles injury which is a pretty serious injury. There's no guarantees he's on the team in 2016.

Lets see if he can play football first. At least a 50% chance he can't deal with the contact and will take at least 2 years to teach him the basics.

Anyone out there who played football knows, there is a steep learning curve in the early years.

I have to ask , how long does Witten last?

Listening to Witten he wants to play as long as he can and with him being Romo's security blanket they're tied together. Witten may not be transitioned out until Romo is done. He never misses games so there hasn't been a real good opportunity given to our other TEs to try and faze Witten out.

Jimmy Graham was a 2nd round pick and he was far more established being he had played college football. My point is, if he's this sought after guy that if we stick him on our PS someone is going to snag him......then why didn't anyone draft him in the 5th or before us in the 6th round? These guys are all over the league. Freak athletes who are transitioning to tight end. Most of them end up playing left tackle. I'm not saying he won't be great or even good for that matter. I'm saying you don't carry 4 tight ends into the season with one as a "project".

Other than the HOFer that wears 82?

Not quite sure if i'd consider him "special" at this point in his career.

Perhaps I should have said if he shows any potential in pre season. He has the tools. There has been precedence with several basketball players making transition. If he shows any potential, some one will sign him as 3rd TE. It's a very valuable position in the NFL right now.

That will hold back the offense. He's not capable of stretching defenses down the seams. He's basically a velcro dartboard on crutches.

This is why I hate player worship. Jason Witten should hold onto his roster spot up until the day he's truly the best option and not a day longer.

I'd be looking for a TE.

Hey, I'll pat him on the back on his way out the door and give him an atta guy. Relax.

As long as he continues to move the chains the Cowboys won't look to replace him. Despite his lack of speed he continues to find soft spots in the defense and is dependable. I wouldn't be looking for a TE with a high draft pick until we're ready to move on from him. Hard to develop a TE that's playing behind him they get very few opportunities. The main reason these TEs we're drafting are going bust is they're having to play behind him.

When I say I'd be looking for a TE I mean one I believe is better than what Witten currently is now and would start immediately.

But I get it. Witten's a superhero. He's Robin to Staubach's Batman.

We need to start looking for his replacement when the team is looking to replace him and I don't see that happening anytime soon. It may be 2-3 years before we start phasing him out.

Wait...so when the team is ready is the right time? Because this team is flawless in their personnel evaluations.

What I'm saying is I, not the team, would replace him ASAP.

Witten led the team in receptions last year catching 25 more balls than anyone else on the team. He's still a very good player who's dependable and moves the chains plus he never misses a game. He hasn't reached the point in his career where it's time to replace him. He's never relied on speed or athleticism he just knows how to get open.
