Gathers is an absolute Beast and smooth as Silk

It sure in hell doesnt hurt. There's a reason NFL teams go to the combine every year. It's to test and measure who is the biggest and the fastest.

Claiming all basketball players could play TE. Is foolish. Basketball players tend to be more tall then big or large. This kid is built like a football player.

Oh and did you see the hands? Smooth as silk
measurable matter, for football players, to distinguish athleticism and rank them..... but there is a lot of tape and at the end, there is always those that we miss in the first two rounds and gems that are found in the lower rounds.

and he has great hands...he played well against 3rd and 4th stringers. he still can't block and people want to dismiss that and call him a pass catching TE.... just to give him an excuse. he has good hands, but can he separate and make plays against 1st stringers?

I have great hands too, running in shorts, against scrubs in my flag football league..... I do have great hands....

Vernon Davis was a physical specimen. He was on the cover of a couple musclemags, but he was also an excellent TE.

Heck he’s still good. He was available a couple of seasons ago, but peeps here claimed he was tooooooo old.
he was a good TE not great. he under whelmed in his career. and he played football not basketball

so go ahead and say Garrett is an Idiot, because I still don't see all the man crush on Gathers..... just because he is big and he can run doesn't make him a football player. he is got a bit of ways to go. otherwise, there are 100 other Basketball players, that are big and fast and you don't see all of them turn into TE.yes, gates and graham made but how many failed and didn't make it....if it was all about measurable, then every Olympic sprinter would be a great WR.

if Gathers fails, its on him and nobody else.
Ring Of Honor recipient, "Bullet" Bob Hayes, says, "Hi."

If Garret let's him walk. Hes an idiot. And if he does make the roster and doesnt get see the field. Well once again. Idiot Garrett.
I know I know blocking. Yet other teams play te's who dont block.

You mean Rico? I would start practicing my pick and roll and jump shot if I were him. JMO however. I'm not sure pick and roll works in football. And putting your hands or leaning into someone is not exactly blocking. Rico has a lot to show this year in TC and pre-season. The thing is, he won't get any first team snaps. An injury here or there could open things up for him BUT IMO that's the only way he makes the 53. We won't keep 4 TE's on the 53. The only reason we did that last year was to keep Phithy from plundering Jarwin. Rico wasn't even considered and he missed all of last season so he is no further ahead than at this time last year

Escobar has great hands.

While having jumpballers around for the endzone is fine and dandy, if they can't separate, their usage will be limited. And if they can't block and can't separate, they don't belong in the NFL.

He's the best TE that has never caught a pass or played a single snap in an NFL game in the history of the league

Agreed.

After all, this is the team that drafted and kept Gavin Escobar for four years.

Yes, that Gavin Escobar!
Esco failed for the same reason that I think Rico will.

This coaching staff does not mold their offense to the the talents of the players. Instead, it forces players into a role and hope they fit...........but they draft guys who don't fit. Esco was set up for failure from day 1.

Since they are not trying to build the offense around Rico I don't see how you theory fits. It is Rico whom they felt could become the TE they hope for. He has size and athletic ability and given the fact he has not played football since middle school he was a long shot to begin with. They have given him the time to learn and develop into the type of TE that is needed for this offense.

Rico has "good" hands, but you have "great" hands.

That's all well and good but he better get the blocking aspect down. In this offense the TE inline blocks A LOT!

And he suffered that double injury to his head/neck/jaw due to that helmet-to-helmet hit in practice which cost Rico the whole season.
I do believe that the staff used that to keep him on the team later in the year placing him on IR. He was healed up before the end of year. They are giving him every opportunity to make this team.

The video looks like Smurfs were covering him.

That's another reason I don't get why anyone would say this video has any meaning. It's a guy in shorts running pass routes without anyone actually attempting to cover him. The cover guys were just token bodies to simulate here a defender might be on the field.
