Geno Smith

McGee Cassell and Weeden were terrible but Orton and Kitna were fine. It's not like the front office has brought in superior talent and they failed with it. The backups that we had in at the skill positions last year weren't doing them a lot of favors winning routes and getting separation even if they were afraid to throw in the middle of the field if it wasn't the first read.

well i think there were a number of times where we had better talent than certain opponents and yes the litany of backup QBs were sent out there weren't great (some not even good) but it never seemed like we put them in a position to win based on gameplanning, game-management, and/or in-game adjustments. Always seems like we just sent out the next chump and expect him to play as well as Romo. Cassell and Weeden weren't good true, but they have both won games elsewhere since, hence my problem. I don't expect the backup QB to be as good as Romo, but I expect the team and the coaches to rally around him and craft a plan that plays to what he is capable of, however limited that may be. Clearly, the post-Cowboy staffs that got Cassell and Weeden did that and actually salvaged a win or two despite their limited abilities....and I just don't buy that our team wasn't more talented (top to bottom) than those teams Cassell and Weeden won with later.

Well....I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that i think Geno will be cut by the end of training camp, the Jets Have Fitz, Petty, Hackenberg, and Smith. I see Smith as the odd man out. Should that happen...what do you guys think of him as a vet QB?

Not sure, could be typical posturing but they supposedly like him. He was beating out Fitz last year until the injury. Although if he isnt starting this year its probably safe to say they are full of it.

Could he possibly be worse than the others? I think he could be a very nice back up, not a long term starter.

I'd rather go with the unknown rather than a known failure.

That's been my thought along. Not signing Foles is no big deal. I Like the approach, give the kids the chance through preseason. When teams start making Cuts and somebody we like gets released, thats better than what than what we have- get'm

That will not be GENO, give me a break. Hes horrible..

All this thread has done is make me grateful we aren't the Jets. They had to be for Fitz back because Geno sucks and is the least liked guy in the locker room, Bryce Petty had a statement last year about how he learned how to read some coverages by playing Madden a lot, and Hackenberg has been "brutally bad" so far according to Jets media guys.

Did Bryce really say that lol wow OK then I'm a coverage reading master.

Those of us who live in New York that are able to follow Jets news, know that all Jets QB's are trash including Fitzpatrick.

Yes he said that. He truly said that and since then Jets fans turned against him. :)

I was a little off but here it is:
"For me, it's a process," Petty told Darryl Slater of NJ.com at aDavid Harris charity event. "Just watching film, I'm seeing things. I played Madden the other day, and it's not just picking run plays anymore. It's like, 'Oh, they've got an under front (on defense).' You start picking up things differently. That's exciting for me."

I'd rather roll with Prescott and Showers.

I don't think it is a coincidence that Jerry started talking about standing pat at QB right after the Geno Smith thread popped up here.:)

There is not much difference at all between a 4th round QB and an UDFA talent wise. It will be a miracle for either one to play at a decent level. It is merely speculation to expect them to be better than their draft positions.

What's funny is, and I know you will say what else do you expect the coaches to say, but every coach associated with our offense said or is saying they see improvements. Linehan said Dak has a nice arm and is progressing. Yet some of us in here can't be patient and let them continue to grow as a QB. Best case scenario is Romo stays healthy and their services isn't needed. Worst case scenario room is injured and we, the coaching staff, have to gameplan around their skill set. Let it play out. Even Romo stated that Dak is ahead of where he was at the same in his career mentally.

I think this is one of the worst ideas I have ever read

He is a mental midget playing the one position that demands a mental giant
