George Teague

that play, huge play to help win a championship. unless you don't watch college I guess.

Not saying it wasn't a huge play but it wasn't the most memorable moment of his career. His name would never be mentioned on this or any Cowboy board if it wasn't for him decking TO defending the star. In the 37 year history of Texas Stadium it was one of the 10 most memorable moments and there were alot of great moments in that stadium.

George appreciates all the kind words.

Well, here's some more:

Ever since he retired, I've been using him as the measuring stick for how Cowboys' free safeties should play. For a year I thought Ken Hamlin lived up to those expectations, but then he got his contract and down hill he went.

There hasn't been an underrated player like GT31 on the Cowboys roster since. He wasn't a superstar, he wasn't he highest paid player, nor asked to be, but he was a leader who backed up his words with his play.

True football fans appreciate his contributions to the Cowboys, and notice I left " true Cowboys fans " out because not all " true Cowboys fans " are true football fans. I'm hoping that Mike Hamlin will turn out to be another GT31. If that happens, the Cowboys won't have to worry about the FS position for the next 10 years.

All anyone remembers about Teague was the defending the star incident that pretty much tells you what kind of career he had.

What's more memorable that play or him defending the star? :toast:

KJJ, instead of letting us watch you tie yourself up in knots, this is one of those situations where you just say 'I stand corrected,' and retreat quietly.

Oh yeah. Teague was the man. One of my favorite players ever.

Much respect for Mr. Teague. I wish as well that he would of put that POS Owens in his place just a little bit more.

This team needs about 50 more Teague's on this team

Yippee-ki-yay.

I would love to get a Teague jersey I always wanted one, but I feel like Roy Williams tarnished the number.

Brock Marion was a pretty darn good player for the Cowboys and Dolphins. He played for 2 of our 3 SB winning teams. He started all 16 games in 95 the year the Cowboys won SB XXX finishing that season with 6 picks returning one for a TD. Those were alot more talented teams than the Cowboy teams Teague played for. Teague didn't live up to his first round draft status in Green Bay that's why he only lasted 3 years with the Packers. When the Cowboys picked him up in 96 he started 8 games and was let go after just one season. He then went to Miami where he started 6 games and was let go and Brock Marion was brought in to take his place and Marion started all 16 games for Miami that season. Marion spent 6 seasons in Miami and started every game but one during that period. The Cowboys picked Teague up again in 98 after Marion left for Miami. He started just 5 games in 98 for the Cowboys.

In 99 he started 14 games producing 3 int's and 2 TD's. He did virtually nothing the next 2 seasons and that's where his career ended. Brock Marion was clearly a better player than George Teague. Marion played 12 years starting in 154 games compared to 9 years and 101 starts for Teague. Marion had a career total of 31 int's compared to 15 int's for Teague. I'm not saying Teague wasn't a decent player the point I'm making is all anyone ever remembers about his career was him decking TO and defending the star. This is a fact!

Good post. I couldn't believe it when someone said that Teague was a "huge upgrade" over Marion. Obviously they never actually saw either of them play, just went by the highlight clip.

I was very upset when Marion left via FA but that's what happened to a lot of our good players back then. The cap really hampered us from keeping a number of very good players and Marion was one of them.

He stood out more in Miami where the Dolphins didn't have anywhere near the talent that we did and was selected to 3 Pro-Bowls in his 6 seasons there.

I loved George Teague but he nowhere near as good as Marion. Maybe better as a leader but not as a player.

Tarnished?

Roy wasn't that bad bro. He was the face of the franchise for a solid 2-3 years.

He just meant that he felt like RW didn't meet his insane expectations.

Roy was my favorite player and I bet most Cowboys fans felt the same way; but theres no debating, there were fewer and fewer big hits and fewer and fewer big plays by him in his last two years

At one time, most Cowboys fans may have thought of Roy Williams as one of their favorite players (plural). It's highly doubtful that most considered him as their favorite player (singular). He never enjoyed that kind of fan following, in my opinion.

His rookie season?

Even his second year Roy was a beast. I dont know what happened to him though, he just stunk it up.

Jimmy,

I remember watching that Sugar Bowl. Immediately afterwards, I called by buddy and told him "I want that George Teague!"

I was so hoping that in April 93 draft that the Cowboys would move up a little to get him. Therefore I was totally shocked when he was available at th 28th pick.

Needless-to-say, I was livid when Jimmy and Jerry traded down with Green Bay and let the Packers take Teague.

Hindsight though - getting Kevin Williams and Darren Smith was more than an equal payoff I believe.

He lost Woody at SS and the NFL became an even bigger panzy league after that. Limiting Roy.

I remember everyone saying Miami was the fastest team ever and no way Alabama could keep up then Teague ran him down and took the ball, it was like the big bully got punched in the mouth and didn't know what to do. Too bad I was rooting for the big bully. I actually missed Teague taking the ball, I jumped up from the couch to celebrate the easy TD and stuck my hand in the ceiling fan and looked away from the TV, I guess I kind of pulled a Shockey. man, did I take some grief from my buddies over that one.

The only one's who are tying themselves up in a knot are the one's who think Teague was better than Brock Marion and the one's who think Teague had a more memorable football moment than knocking TO to the ground defending our star.

Assuming anyone bought into your transparent efforts to change your original stance, then, yes.

I never attempted to change my original stance I've repeated the same thing in every post. lol You seem to be the only one that has an issue with my stance. What exactly is your stance?
