Georgia CB Oliver will be selected in the supplemental draft...'boys mentioned

The way they do the Supplemental Draft now (or at least last year) is they get all 32 teams on a conference call and they follow the draft order, pre trades, based on record. This would mean Dallas would have the 53rd pick overall for them to use their 2nd round pick. I don't see any team risking a 1st. Maybe one will. It is possible. That means 20 teams have to pass on him for us to have a chance with our 2nd pick.

On top of this I don't think the team is near as unhappy with Anthony Henry as some fans.

I just don't see it happening.

I think it's very possible. Even if a team's pretty much set in the defensive backfield, it's one of of those positions where enough is never enough.

I seriously doubt he made it through 3 years of college with a learning disability, only to have that hold him back. More than likely he stopped carring thinking he would do just enough to remain eligable, and fell short.

Well, I was merely stating a possibility (as unlikely it may seem).

I drop a 2nd round pick on him.

A 2nd next year is the cost and is worth a 3rd rounder in next years draft according to draft charts.

Oliver could be a Nickel corner and assume Henry's job in 2 to 3 seasons.

I know we have a lot of young depth at CB but I am not all that excited about any of it as a top 3 corner this season. Oliver has serious athleticism and looks a great fit in Henry's bigger CB role.

Try it on Madden and get back to me. ;)

I did that one season. Sad, yes.

But remember our CBs were Larrimore, Edwards, Hunter at the time, yikes!
Cason became my 4th and he stunk but he stayed on my roster longer than he did in Dallas a nickel back,

I really like Oliver but I do have some reservations about him. Basically, we would be gambling on the fact that we could get a 1st rounder for a 2nd/3rd a year early. I would take that gamble but won't complain a bit if we don't.

I have a handfull of CBs rated similar or better and you never know if any of them will drop and be able to be had in the 3rd like McCauley did, although he got his bell rung early last year and seemed to regress because of it.

Antoine Cason is an interesting prospect, but I have been having difficulty rating him because they seem to blitz alot and put him on an island. This can lead to higher INTs but giving up more big plays too. He's quick, has nice size, smart and good bloodlines. He may move too high next year if we are still planning on taking McFadden.

So do you think they'd take Oliver? The Sup Draft is in July, Griffin couldn't get torched until September. Way too late to do anything about it at that point.

That wasn't my point.

I was moreso thinking that move won't last very long. For all we know, they could have seen enough in minicamps. I have read where he has struggled some. I just don't see how Fisher has come to the conclusion he's a corner. Moreover, they have terrible safeties and everything I have seen demonstrates he'd be an easy upgrade over Lamont Thompson.

Moving a player like that is radical. Just I suspect the Giants will be either starting DeOssie or panicking soon if the Kiwinuka experiment doesn't work.

I wasn't trying to skirt your point, I was asking you to share your opinion on whether you felt they would take Oliver. It wasn't a set up. I was genuinely asking.

We don't know if it was a lack of effort or focus on his part. Maybe he has a learning disability that went undiagnosed...who knows.

UGA is an institution with one of the top School Psychology Ph.D. programs as well as some of the best education programs in the country. What do School Psychologists do? Well, one of the things they do is diagnose learning disabilities.

So I'm going to say that the likelihood of one of the football team's top players just slipping through the cracks is pretty low.

I don't know if I would condemn the guy for flunking out as being lazy or unmotivated.

If he was looking for the easy way out, wouldn't he have simply entered this year's draft, gotten paid, and not had to worry about grades?

I thought Oliver was a stud in games I watched him.

Yup! That's why I'm NOT as worried about him being lazy or unmotivated. He very well could have just taken the easy way out and declared for this past draft.....

Don't get me wrong, I like Henry very much and still do (hopefully he'll stay healthy this year). He was on his way to a Pro-Bowl his first season w/ us before his groin injury, imo. I'm just planning for his replacement in the future and the present need for a quality 3rd CB.....

That would be the easily way, but he was probably convinced he could do very little and pass his classes (probably what he was already doing). Afterall where would he have been drafted this year? Definately not in the first.

WE just drafted two CB's...and though we drafted them late, I don't see any way in the world we spend anything above a 3rd or 4th on any CB in the supplimental draft.

I think having 20-20 hindsight, and the fact that our pass defense was 24th in the NFL in 2006....

Anyone that thinks Henry is going to be something, after 26 games, is going to continue to be disappointed.

This team needed to draft a blue-chip corner.

A bad secondary can be hidden with a good pass rush.

A bad pass rush cannot be hidden with a good secondary.

Case in point. Watch the 2007 Commanders.

You will receive your answer.

The Commanders actually graded out better than the Cowboys in 2006.

Yet he couldn't pass his Spring classes? AFTER the football season was over?
