I just hope we do not reach
Cason will be a 1st rounder next year barring injury. If we can nab Oliver in the suppplemental w/ a 2nd rounder, would you do it? I think I would. From what I've read, Oliver would have been one of the top CBs for next year so getting him w/ a 2nd would be good value at a position of need.....Hostile;1517028 said:Pass on him. If we decide CB is essential then grab Antoine Cason from Arizona. Yeah, I know, I'm a homer. Watch this kid play next year when you get a chance. You'll know why.
I'm finding it hard to see the logic in not taking Oliver w/ at the very least a 2nd rounder also.theogt;1517233 said:Really? You would only spend a 3rd round pick on a guy that was pretty much a consensus top 10 pick in '08?

1. Oliver would have been one of the top CBs next year.
2. CB is a position of need for us.
3. I believe many, including myself, will be clamoring to draft a CB w/ one of our two 1st rounder or our 2nd rounder in next year's draft.
Then why on earth would we not consider taking Oliver w/ a 2nd rounder or even possibly a 1st in the supplemental? He's a highly rated CB who we could have a year early and not have to rush to be the starter as a rookie. The pros outweigh the cons for me.....
Include me in there as well.5mics;1517737 said:I'm finding it hard to see the logic in not taking Oliver w/ at the very least a 2nd rounder also.

Yeah, 2nd round will be the temptation, I think. Maybe we do nothing.MichaelWinicki;1517006 said:I don't see us blowing a 1st on this kid.
The way they do the Supplemental Draft now (or at least last year) is they get all 32 teams on a conference call and they follow the draft order, pre trades, based on record. This would mean Dallas would have the 53rd pick overall for them to use their 2nd round pick. I don't see any team risking a 1st. Maybe one will. It is possible. That means 20 teams have to pass on him for us to have a chance with our 2nd pick.5mics;1517711 said:Cason will be a 1st rounder next year barring injury. They took a DB with their 1st pick. The kid from Texas, Griffin, who they plan to use at CB I believe.stasheroo;1517889 said:My gut tells me that Tennessee will use their (high) 2nd rounder on him as a replacement for Pacman (I'll never play again) Jones.

So do you think they'd take Oliver? The Sup Draft is in July, Griffin couldn't get torched until September. Way too late to do anything about it at that point.Alexander;1517903 said:That experiment when end when he gets torched a few times.

I see your point, but that wasn't the case when he was on the football field for Georgia. Whether that translates to the NFL remains to be seen. The same can be said for any draft prospect though. You never know how a players mentality will change once they are shown the green.dallasfan;1517902 said:Marcus McCauley was one of the top CBs available going into his senior season. The fact that Oliver couldn't stay foucused enough to not fail worries me, not b/c I think he's dumb, but it shows a lack of commitment and discipline.

Try it on Madden and get back to me.SupermanXx;1517967 said:Can we just get Aveion Cason and move him to corner instead?

And before anyone says it, I don't have a problem with athletes not graduating, but If you know you have to pass your classes in order to play football, and can't do that, what makes you think this guy isn't just some talented guy who isn't willing to put in the work?
I probably will want a CB with the 2nd 1rst round pick, but someone will step up an emerge. Right now Cason and Zackary Bowman are probably the top returning guys, but who knows who will establish themselves like Darrell Revis and Chris Houston did this year.
Hailmary;1518025 said:We don't know if it was a lack of effort or focus on his part. Maybe he has a learning disability that went undiagnosed...who knows.
From what I understand, he did try to qualify academically but fell short. He could have easily declared for this past draft, but instead tried to return for his senior season.
