For me it comes down to production, and Dowdle didn’t produce at least not in the running game. He did okay as a receiver, but we need more and he can’t afford to put the ball on the ground, especially when we’re in position to score.
I agree

We’re in August, so the chances of bettering our RB situation is highly unlikely at this point. We’re pretty much stuck with what we have, and are going to have to hope for the best. We have some concerns on our OL so it’s not like that’s going to help our RB situation any. We’ll find out when the season starts if the FO misevaluated at RB like they did in 2015. If Pollard doesn’t return to form or were to suffer injuries, our offense could really struggle this season. If we have to overload his plate, he won’t be as effective.

we don't need 3rd RBs (ala Fournette) taking away touches and snaps from Pollard, Deuce.
Those two are gonna be the front running headliners to our RB.

.. and Cowboys not gonna commit 8 million dollars for a vet RB who is not gonna factor past Pollard and Deuce.

How? In what way is he better?
Rico looked pretty good aside from the fumble. Someone needs to coach correct placement of the ball outside the hashes. If you cut left, move the ball to the left side...he got stripped because he kept the ball on the right side going left...that last kick return he looked pretty fast too. I think we are going to run with Pollard, Vaughn, and Dowdle on wk 1. I also think Luepke is going to be on the 53 too.

Yeah, that's the casual fan take, but then that wouldn't explain why teams are constantly trying to find quality RB's, and failing often.
Casual fan...This board with the passive aggressive digs :lmao:

Are they trying all that hard though? Those guys wouldn't have been sitting out there this long and Fournette would be signed if they were desired and Cook who is seen as a top 10 back got half of what a top 10 player would have at pretty much every other position. Plus they are failing because the RBs don't last which is exactly why teams aren't rushing out to get them. You are kind of just proving yourself wrong here...

Do you call 7 carries for 24 yards and a fumble, production? His career total since 2020 is 7 carries for 24 yards. Do you call that production? Lol How am I living in 1993? Rico Dowdle has done absolutely nothing!
You’re living in 1993 if you give any thought whatsoever to running the football and the stats as switch it. Especially when you care what the third team guy is gonna be doing. If Pollard carries the ball 17-20 times a game, Deuce Carrie’s it 5-7 times, and Dak and WR’s take it five more, WTH do you care how productive the third guy is?

Dang, I was trying to be blatant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's this media spew going around that finding a starting quality RB is easy. Very silly. 26 of the 32 starting RB's in the NFL were taken in rounds 1-3. 20 in rounds 1-2.

I am twitterpated w/ the passive aggressive dig there at the end though. What are you talking about?

Where have I said anything about caring about the third guy? We need production from our first two backs. They have to be able to move the the chains and put the ball in the endzone, especially from close up. Don’t know where you get that I’m living in 1993. You’re not making any sense.

Game 7-8: Pollard injured and going to miss 2 games

Dowdle: 7 rushes for 25 yards and 0 TDs
Vaughn: 1-5 on 3rd and short

Dak: 2 picks in each game, both losses

CZ: Where is the run game? Why is Dak throwing 35 times a game?

Bottom line:

Pollard WILL miss games due to injury
Dak cannot be asked to carry the offense
Vaughn is not the back up RB

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not asking any of our backs to put up 1500+ yards and 16 TDs. We have a rotation and each back needs to provide a punch to our running game.

Zeke to New England
Cook to the New York Jets
We need to sign Fournette before the only thing left are scraps.
Training camp cuts still need to happen. There will be multiple names available other than Fournette.

Now will the front office actually sign 1 and not go with the “we like our guys” approach? That’s a whole different question. But there will for sure be multiple guys cut that can be a solid backup

How do you figure? He’s been around since 2020 and has done absolutely nothing. He has a career total of 7 carries for 24 yards. He did nothing a couple of days ago and had a fumble that cost us points.
Did you even watch Fournette play last year? If we hated watching the Cowbooys hand the ball to Zeke, it would be even worse with Fournette. His feet are stuck in concrete. He has almost zero burst left and has the look of a totally spent player.

Fournette would be at best our third running back. I think that Pollard and Dowdle are undoubtedly better, and I think that the skill set of a player like Deuce Vaughn would make him a better use of a roster spot.

If you are going to sign a player like Fournette, you may as well have just brought Zeke back for $3mil a year. What they bring to the table at this point is very similar.

They will start the season with Pollard, Deuce, and Rico. As long as they make it out of camp healthy.

They have no need to sign anybody right now.
