He had 4 his rookie year and 4 his second season, now we all know for a fact that he has at least 3 Ints that were thrown right to him by the skins QBs, so he did not take it away, all he had to do was just not drop the ball, in fact it looked like he was the receiver. another 2 I can remember came off of tips that should have been caught by Dat, and one by coakley, so that leaves maybe 3 that he legitimately took away with good coverage.

Don't act like he has been all world at CB, he has been the opposite. I mean if he had BP would not have said that Henry is the CB he has had as the coach.

TNew was getting torched last season, hurt or not teams were playing pass and catch on him last season.

He can do it, we are just waiting for him to turn the corner. I would not be against drafting another CB and moving him to FS next season, or drafting another corner and moving Henry to FS.

Maybe we could switch Tnew and Davis, naaah, could Davis make a good CB, he likes to be in the thick of things.

Davis had to make sure nothing is moving down field trying to get behind him before he comes up field.

FS's first step should be backwards, until he can make out what is going on. The SS first step use to be backwards to back in the day, now days they come full steam toward the line of scrimmage.

Tnew has a great deal of talent, but he has not truned that corner yet, basically the jury is still out, I do not think we can rightly compare him to those others just yet.

I'll take a playmaker over a solid player any day. Newman is not a playmaker, atleast not right now.

Hennery and how many times they threw at T New. EVERYONE needs to get off his jock, let the man play ball! if he plays that way all year without giving up a TD I'll take IT!!!! Fact is we have a very good secondary (if we could just have gone out and maybe gotten Darren Sharper at free safety).

if Newman played for the Skins or Eagles everyone would be talking about how much they wish we had somebody like him

we have some of the most fickle damn fans in the league

David

Man U R right on with this one. They Praise Hall for holding Owens to 110 yards but hate on Newman for allowing 30+ yards receiving. Hall also missed some tackles. One on a first down play by TO..

And there goes any credibility you ever had. Anyone with tapes of our games from the past two years can see for themselves and know that your memory is flat wrong.

Newman's first career interception came with 2:00 left in the second quarter of our 35-32 win over the Giants in 2003. He leaped in front of Shockey on a pass down the right sideline.

Newman's second interception came with 7:45 left in the second quarter of our 27-0 win over Washington in 2003. He blanketed Coles down the right sideline and picked off the pass.

Newman's third interception came with 2:23 left in the second quarter of the same game. He was in zone coverage and caught a ball thrown too high to Rock Cartwright.

Newman's fourth interception came with 0:18 left in the third quarter of the same game. He cut in front of Darnerian McCants on a crossing route and caught a pass tipped into the air by Darren Woodson, who was blitzing.

Newman's fifth interception came with 5:39 left in the fourth quarter of our 19-12 win over Cleveland last year. He jumped the slant route by Quincy Morgan and picked off the pass.

Newman's sixth interception came with 11:00 left in the fourth quarter of our 21-7 win over Chicago last year. He blanketed David Terrell down the left sideline and picked off the pass.

Newman's seventh interception came with 13:07 left in the third quarter of our 12-7 loss to Philadelphia last year. He blanketed Greg Lewis down the right sideline and picked off the pass.

Newman's eighth interception came with 8:18 left in the second quarter of our 13-10 over Washington last year. He jumped the deep hitch by Laveranues Coles and picked off the pass.

If you have the tapes, watch them for yourself. I did before my last post. You obviously didn't, or you'd realize that your memory is wrong.

And all I'm saying is that Newman is much better than you and other fans who think they "remember Newman getting beaten a couple of times by somebody in that one game" claim he is. Anyone who watches closely or analyzes games and/or players knows how good he is.

The NFL coaches and players made him a Pro Bowl alternate as a rookie. ESPN's Scouts, Inc., rated him No. 8 in the league last year. Pro Football Weekly consulted NFL scouts for its rankings and put Newman 13th this year. The Sporting News' War Room scouts put Newman 14th this year. K.C. Joyner, the "Football Scientist" who charts every play of every game, said his stats LAST YEAR were "excellent" -- in the top 10 in many categories.

But you'd rather rely on your "memory" of two plays that actually never happened.

Good luck with that. And good luck with trying to restore your credibility.

All I can say is dang!....

Some people have absolutely no realistic grasp of the cornerback position. They think All Pro CB's routinely have 8 INT seasons. Newman has to play up to imaginary standards that have never existed. The equivalent of what people want out of Newman would be asking Ware to have 22 sacks his rookie year, or for Julius to rush for 2,000 yards.

Exactly! The only fans who think Newman sucks have either never played the CB position at any level higher than H.S. or simply do not understand the game.

highest compliment for a corner is that their name hardly gets mentioned during a game

Well, if Dante Hall didn't lay down the blueprint for TO tonite....

Dante Hall sucks as a defensive back. I wouldn't want him on my team

Now DeAngelo Hall is going to be a good CB, so I may be interested in him. But of course, I am very happy with Newman, Henry and Glenn this season.

I thought Hall played a good game last night. It was a tough assignment and he played a good bend-don't-break game. He certainly did not dominate, but his coverage prevented T.O. from dominating. Sometimes that is what the corner has to do. I would be happy if Henry and Newman had that type of performance against the Eagles(I actually think they will do better). Of course, if Newman has that type of game, everyone will say he was toast all night.

Once again we see the fantasy football influence - FF ballers think that a statistic can describe every player's performance. Statistics work better with a larger sample of events -- fantasy stats are pretty good at telling you who is a good RB or QB or even a WR - why? Because these guys get to see the ball.

Interceptions are a bad statistic to judge defensive players by because they are rare. To get ints you need to be thrown on - in 5 years with us Deion Sanders averaged less than 3 picks a year -- in his 3 best years with us (his first three) he had two picks each year. Does anyone want to argue that Deion was no good because he didn't get picks? He wouldn't have been a good fantasy CB.

A better statistic would be stuff like % passes completed (out of thrown on), % passes defended, YAC allowed, and first downs allowed. None of these are perfect indicators but they go a lot further than ints.

Newmans is not a great cornerback and not even a playmaker, as long as he plays solid defense and don't get burned he is Ok with me. But I think Glen and Henry need to get Newman upto speed if he's ever gonna be better than solid/average CB. I don't think Tnew falls into catagories as Bailey, Woodson,Sanders etc. MAybe down the road he will be.

Hall did EXACTLY what he was supposed to do last night....he let TO catch the balls that were in front of him. He didn't let him catch any bombs that even remotely could have gone for a TD.

Hall played very well last night.

Newman is an awesome CB. Just look at how all the teams avoid him for the most part. A sure sign of respect.

The only thing left of him is the chalk outline on the sidewalk and the wind is blowing.

If he's smart, he won't respond with anything other than a retraction. I'm not betting on that.

I was about to post the same thing. Hall got abused tonight, but he talks trash after making a couple of plays, and Al and John think he played great.

Considering the way members mysteriously disappear - like cockroaches when the lights come - this probably is not prudent, but...

I disagree. I thought Hall played fairly well all things considered. If memory serves, McNabb had to throw in the neighborhood of 20 passes TO's direction to complete seven.

I was impressed with Hall's confidence to call out TO (earlier in the week) and challenge him individually. I was equally impressed with Hall's performance in man coverage going up against one of the best in the biz.

Not bad for a second year player giving up almost 6 inches and 30 lbs to the most physical wideout in the game, IMHO.

.

actually it was a dozen or so, maybe 15...and Owens was wide open on several plays where McNabb just flat out missed him...Owens also had Hall beat easily on the interception, but McNabb grossly underthrew the ball
