To the fans here that predicted Dakota would be signed....y’all were proven right

Now, each week he will have to live up to that massive contract. That kind of contract that would be worthy of a Rodgers type talent

I predict there will be a ton of buyers remorse around here and I also believe that some of y’all are shaking in your boots that he won’t deliver.....let alone pass a physical to play well

He was running in cement before the injury.....now he’ll be like an immobile Brady....but without the arm and brain.......get the popcorn ready, indeed

Running in cement... you, cant be serious, right? Dak "immobile"? You CANNOT be serious. Wow... just wow.

My popcorn grew stale, Old popcorn tends to dry out, lowering the yield. When the popcorn has finished popping, sometimes unpopped kernels remain. Known in the popcorn industry as "old maids", these kernels fail to pop because they do not have enough moisture to create enough steam for an explosion.

He counts less than 23 mil against the cap this year... As opposed to potentially 38 mil if we had gone strictly with the franchise tag. Very cap-friendly this year...
exactly. The team came out smelling like roses on this deal too. We can actually sign anyone we so choose in free agency. We can also free up more cap by restructuring deals if we wanna. This entire narrative that we shouldnt have signed him and overpaid is largely just ignorant. He got what the market said he was worth. Not a fan of the agent. I felt he used Dak as a pawn last year and he came off looking bad.I thought it was mishandled badly. They got it right this time though.

What about 17 and 18. Those were even better teams. Dak won't get better teams than 16,17,18 in the next 4 years unfortunately.

16 was really enjoyable. I expected 6-10 at best. Was never a let down.

The way it ended killed it for me. Dallas should have won that game. To let Rodgers come back and complete that pass, took all the wind out of my sails.

I’ll remind you that Green Bay was then smoked by Atlanta by 23 points and the game wasn’t even that close. The Cowboys would have gotten the Falcons at home, and I have zero doubt that they win that game.

This team had two legit shots at a Super Bowl since 1995; in 2007 and in 2016. In both, if they don’t blow the divisional round games, they are at least IN the Super Bowl with a chance to win it all.

16 was a fun season but I never thought dallas was going to be a superbowl team. Only season I thought that was 07 like you mentioned.

while I am glad we signed dak, outside of 2021 how is this a “very cap friendly deal” exactly? Sounds to me like it’s kinda the opposite and removes any chance of trading him if for some reason he flamed out.

Not saying I didn’t want to see dak sign but I don’t see that the cowboys for any type of deal out of it
22.5 mil cap hit in year 1 and 33 mil in year 2. That’s called cap friendly. 10% and 14% for a QB is great.

There is a no trade clause in his new deal.

And he will not flame out. He has proven he can when and put up numbers, just get a defense to help.
He will not get worse, and can only get better. Even if he does not improve that much he is still very good. but as all winning teams do, the need a complete team. This team is missing a defense and has for years.[

It’s 1 year cap friendly on a multi year deal....

that’s not a cap friendly deal in my opinion, it’s a multi year deal with the first having a cap friendly number and the subsequent years escalating to a point above 50 mil

again I’m happy we signed dak but al I’m saying is we should be cautious making a claim this is a cap friendly deal without considering the implications in year 2 and beyond which are not cap friendly

How is $33 mil in the 2nd year not cap friendly? The cap will go up next year. Even the last year at 44 mil is cap friendly when it will go up again possibly through the roof because of the new TV deals and legalized NFL gambling.

22 mil this year. 33 mil next year. Some of us just need a little extra dialogue to understand the cap. That's all. :) Excellent deal for both sides. Dak gets to hit the market again in 4 years as desired (hopefully after he has brought us at least one ring) and the Cowboys still maintain plenty of room to sign impact FAs.

well I might have read different numbers but I saw in year 2 through the end it was cloying from the mid 30s to 50 based on how it was allocated. If you have the actual cap hits handy it would be appreciated

thanks so looking at it....22 and 33 are cap friendly in year 1 and 2 but 44 and 47 in year 3 and 4 are not. Even with a salary cap growth those numbers are still going to be at the very top for a qb.

Obviously im sure there are ways they can spread it and i think, if i read correctly, the goal is to do a new deal before 2024 so my concerns might not matter any way.

No doubt.
For one year out of four, we get a break.

22 is friendly
33 is a high cap hit but could be even worse
Then it is bad

Let's assume the cap next year goes up the "average" 10%, over last year's $198 million, or about $218 million. (I'm assuming this year is an aberration, for sake of argument).
That'd make Dak's $33.2 million about 15% of the cap.

Not too bad, but for the "no quarterback ever won a SB if his cap hit is over 13%", that isn't "cap friendly".

And as far as the new tv contract, it's expected to go way up, sure. But it's not guaranteed, so $44 mil could not be cap friendly.

But hey, I'm not stressing over it, I'm going to enjoy this year's 12.13 - 12.33% cap hit (rumors are the cap could be from $180 mil to maybe $183 mil) while it lasts...

That's pretty much it re the cap hit...

Year 1: good
Year 2: not good/bad
Years 3 and 4: potentially horrific/cap hell

I was torn..but if you walk in their shoes, they had to do this. This years crop of QB prospects were not great. They knew what they had in Dak..and how do you replace that kind of leadership and work ethic? You may never if he were to not get signed and he walked. It was the right move.Good news is each side isnt married to each other that long. Its a "short term" engagement. Not a super long deal. The final deal numbers are deceptive. He is getting a ton of cash up front at signing, but the rest is being prorated and spread out over 6 years. The last 2 years are GHOST YEARS. We will have plenty of cap to sign some nice free agents if we want. It was a win win.

Not great? This is the best crop of QBs in a generation. Their will probably be 5 QBs taken in the top 10 which would be a record. Next years crop sucks but not this one.

If they're that great, pretty good bet they'll all be gone before the 10th pick.

But just because they might be 5 taken in the top 10 doesn't mean they're all worth it, in fact historically that's the case...
