After signing Kirk Cousins to a 4 year 180 million dollar deal just NINE MONTHS ago, Atlanta is changing direction and letting him walk…with a very reasonable cap hit. Anyone think Booger and Chuckles would ever admit fault and do this??? Knowing them, they’ve backed themselves into a cap hit corner from hell….just amazes me how smart some teams are to bite the bullet and correct things….meanwhile, we have the Clapping Carrot at HC for almost a decade. Next season will prove that Dim’s extension was the worst in Pro Sports history.
The Giants dumped Jones and the Broncos dumped Wilson. Sometimes you just need to cut your losses and move on. It's sickening what they are paying Dak.

He has a 151M dead cap. Can't do it all at once, they still have to field a team. It's 89M and 62M post June 1st. That's two more years down the drain. That's something you do as a last resort, no?

I was for not giving him an extension. I'm for releasing him when that hurts the team less than keeping him.

No it was not.
Dak was going to be a lame duck QB, they needed to address the QB of the future. a 4th round pick was used. As they wanted to draft QB anyway, but the draft did not fall their way to do so.

Jerry screwed it up by caving and extending Dak for 4 more years of a few wins to tease getting to the playoffs, or 1 and done.
That's a bad way to address the QB of the future. That's like me stealing my neighbor's garbage bag to address dinner.

Not really. It was good at the time.
Fans are looking with hindsight. Not what was going on when it happened.

But some will not see it as it is. They either hate Jerry or hate Trey or love Dak. So that skews their outlook.

I think most of the Trey haters are big Dak fans. Most others that don't like him is because they don't think he's any good. That's not hate. I thought Trey sucked the second he was drafted. Nothing he did in college showed he was ready for the NFL. He could run, that's about it.

I wasn't bent over the 4th round pick. But I wasn't expecting much. I'm not speaking from hindsight. If we didn't pay Dak, and started Lance from week 1, we are probably sitting at 2 wins. I used to joke about doing exactly that. Only for 2025.

With or without the injuries?
Dak did not do much better this year.

So hard to judge.
Rush doing better, but the defense were also getting players back to be better.

None of us can say one way or the other, though many think they can. All a matter of opinion.

Right now, it does not matter, because the QB direction right now is not good.

Cousins can't move. Atlanta has to run out of the pistol a lot due to his inability to even hand off the ball.
His mobility also limits the playbook. Can't do playaction with a statue.
Hes also started to hesitate on his throws missing windows and causing Ints

If Atlanta didn't have Penix, maybe they wait, but defenses can defend against Cousins easily now.

PICKS? It was 1 PICK, 4th pick which was good at the time. Hindsight because of the FO stupidity makes it a wasted pick. NOT because of the player. Do not blame him. But because of the FO refusal to play him and over paying a mediocre QB, twice.
Two teams wasted money and picks. Multiple picks.

So, what the heck happened to Cousins? He was having a solid season, woth 17 TDs to 7 ints and coming off two very good games. The Falcons wede 6-3 and in firm control of the division.

Then all of a sudden he goes on a streak with 1 TD and 9 Ints. The Falcons lose 4 of 5, and they're battling to make the playoffs.

Did he get hurt again? Get a concussion and not say anything? What little I have watched of him now compared to earlier this year something looks off.
He became typical Kirk Cousins again... Dr. Jecklyl/Mr Hyde ... and that's not just one bad game, he reverted to the old KC that literally gives games away, single handledly throws games away ...

plus i'm willing to bet that teams don't see KC as much of a locker room/on field leader as this team does with Dak.

Many will continue plague and tag Dak into that same league of Cousins and Deshaun Watson, but i dunno if those guys were in the 2nd in MVP league
vote status as Dak in 2023.

I mean, I get your point here but it’s comical to act like this is great business by Atlanta. They spent an insane amount of money on Kirk for just a couple of games. He has 90m guaranteed and they only save a measly 10m by cutting him now which is of course not a whole lot. They have no idea what they have in Penix until he plays the games so this is a serious risk to take. It’s possible he sucks even worse then Kirk and that he would benefit from riding out this season on the bench in a write off season. The contract for Kirk was just dumb to begin with. I think the QB market will pop very soon. Probably Dak was one of the last to get on the train. Front offices are going to get increasingly skittish in handing out franchise altering deals for any QB that is not unquestionably elite. Even in the best case scenarios the amount of money locked up by one position severely constricts the rest of your roster. Unless you have Mahomes it’s just not worth it. Jerry and son will figure that out about three years after the best front offices do and then a new trend will have developed, which they will inevitably be late in identifying as well.
You don't think they have been evaluating him at practice?

You don't think they can tell if he has a good understanding of the offense.

The Cowboys are going to find out this season what a BIG mistake they make by paying Dak...he is a broken player and won't even last the season. But, that's fine by me, Jerry deserves it.

Dak can't even go fishing without wearing a walking boot!
What evidence is there past this year that suggest Dak won't last a season ?
Any other major past injuries to Dak were contact injuries

I'm not certain Dak cannot be " fixed" . i still it depends greatly upon the coach and scheme ... but there lies the problem.

If McCarthy is returning and he remains responsible for Dak and the offense - then we will continue to see what we are seeing with the offense.

if Jerry insists upon returning to the Kellen Moore like plan of a separate new OC to work with McCarthy, the offense being in the hands of that new OC, rather than McCarthy current stinky dink dunk offense... then Dak will continue to be screwed. Especially if we do not add a spectacular RB and much upgrade improved run scheme .
