Getting out of terrible QB contracts

I mean, I get your point here but it’s comical to act like this is great business by Atlanta. They spent an insane amount of money on Kirk for just a couple of games. He has 90m guaranteed and they only save a measly 10m by cutting him now which is of course not a whole lot. They have no idea what they have in Penix until he plays the games so this is a serious risk to take. It’s possible he sucks even worse then Kirk and that he would benefit from riding out this season on the bench in a write off season. The contract for Kirk was just dumb to begin with. I think the QB market will pop very soon. Probably Dak was one of the last to get on the train. Front offices are going to get increasingly skittish in handing out franchise altering deals for any QB that is not unquestionably elite. Even in the best case scenarios the amount of money locked up by one position severely constricts the rest of your roster. Unless you have Mahomes it’s just not worth it. Jerry and son will figure that out about three years after the best front offices do and then a new trend will have developed, which they will inevitably be late in identifying as well.
They're actually losing money, not saving anything. It's just 10m less that they'll lose. I think they paid him just in case things didn't work out in the draft. But it did turn out to be a waste.

All you need to know is this "Thing" will be coming back so whatever positive expectations you might have .......................fuhgeddaboudit.

It’s possible that paying Cousins was the only reason Penix was still on the board since other teams thought the Falcons already addressed qb. Otherwise someone else might have traded up.

Why would we worry about Kirk Cousins' contract in comparison to what needs to be done at Dallas......if you dig deep enough, you'll find our QB or WR contract does not hinder getting talent. Kirk had talent around him, and young talent it's been at Atlanta & Minnesota. Just this year......if you didn't see the cupboard bare for our offense alone....I don't know what to tell you. And QB/WR big contracts were done AFTER the FA market came & went, or the claim "All In".
Hahaha. Don’t defend the loser, Dak sucks and there is nothing that can be said that’s going to change that.

How much "heat" can any player have when they have 231 million in GUARANTEED money!!!!!
lol funny you say that, there's a team called the Broncos that are taking a huge hit, yet they've had success this season, Falcons are getting rid of your cousin Kirk, they're going to have to eat some of that, far back as the packers drafting jordan love early in the draft (1st round pick).

I hear what you're saying, who's to say he doesn't get injured again, do we have to keep on playing with guys that have seemingly never played football in their lives?? lol

It was a ridiculously stupid contract that is going to set the Cowboys back years. Of course they will ride it out too, until Dak is 45 taking snaps behind center. Other teams move off their mistakes. You see Denver moving off Russ, Minn moving off Cousins (and now Atlanta will be), Green Bay moving off Rodgers, 49ers moving off Garoppolo, Texans moving off Watson, and the list goes on. Not in Dallas though. We commit to mediocrity.

They won't even draft QBs to try and groom somebody. The Jones' boys seem to think starting QBs are just easily found in the 4th round and higher or UDFA. It's not like it's an important position in football or anything.
lol your second paragraph I've been saying for the last few weeks, we want the best 4th rounders and UDFA we can find, we'd DARE have a QB controversy in dallas lol. Damn that earlier drafted guy may look too good in camp/pre season, fans call for him, Jerry and son would lose their minds lol

Dim has feasted on nothing but the NFC East and other subpar non conference teams for his career…kind of like Kirk Ferentz in regard to his non conference opponents and the Big 10 West…best analogy I could think of, but it’s perfect. Iowa fans know!

I'm ok with your thoughts, I stand by my point even if we pretend it's "John Dipplemeyer" with the contract and comparing Kirk Cousin's plight. I suspect you'd change your thought though.

ATL dumb team doing a smart thing. If shes not a keeper, adios. Wish the cowboys were as smart

Phenomenal waste of money and draft picks.
PICKS? It was 1 PICK, 4th pick which was good at the time. Hindsight because of the FO stupidity makes it a wasted pick. NOT because of the player. Do not blame him. But because of the FO refusal to play him and over paying a mediocre QB, twice.

Well said.

Burrows is finding that out.

No it was not.
Dak was going to be a lame duck QB, they needed to address the QB of the future. a 4th round pick was used. As they wanted to draft QB anyway, but the draft did not fall their way to do so.

Jerry screwed it up by caving and extending Dak for 4 more years of a few wins to tease getting to the playoffs, or 1 and done.
