They're actually losing money, not saving anything. It's just 10m less that they'll lose. I think they paid him just in case things didn't work out in the draft. But it did turn out to be a waste.I mean, I get your point here but it’s comical to act like this is great business by Atlanta. They spent an insane amount of money on Kirk for just a couple of games. He has 90m guaranteed and they only save a measly 10m by cutting him now which is of course not a whole lot. They have no idea what they have in Penix until he plays the games so this is a serious risk to take. It’s possible he sucks even worse then Kirk and that he would benefit from riding out this season on the bench in a write off season. The contract for Kirk was just dumb to begin with. I think the QB market will pop very soon. Probably Dak was one of the last to get on the train. Front offices are going to get increasingly skittish in handing out franchise altering deals for any QB that is not unquestionably elite. Even in the best case scenarios the amount of money locked up by one position severely constricts the rest of your roster. Unless you have Mahomes it’s just not worth it. Jerry and son will figure that out about three years after the best front offices do and then a new trend will have developed, which they will inevitably be late in identifying as well.
