Must be nice to have an owner with some balls.

It takes balls to fire a coach that has gone 2-10?
Or a GM that has spent a lot of money in FA with little return in year two?

Not like the fans loved the coach or he was widely respected around the NFL. He was a second year offensive minded coach that coached a team that struggled to put up points.
19 PPG in 16 and 15.8 PPG in 17.

And yet, he built a 12 and 13 game winner and won more games than 2/3rds of the league or so in the process while rebuilding the team and learning on the fly, as you suggest.

And has 1 play off win over that time frame. One. I'll say it again. One. Didn't hear me? Oh........ he has ONE playoff win in 7 years. One. Not two. One. Not three. One.

And has shown when things don't go perfectly for him - 2015 and 2017 - the entire thing falls apart.

If he gets in the playoffs this year and makes some noise in the playoffs, I'll back off. Because in the end, my gripe with him is that I don't think he can be successful in the playoffs, if he can even get there. But if he fails to make it or spits the bit immediately if we get there, it's time for a change.

So 6 coaches in the nfl have super bowl rings. ok gotcha. He's been HC for 6 yrs and is the 8th longest tenured HC. in those 6 yrs Dallas has had a legit 2 chances to reach the superbowl. Gotcha. Im not a Garrett fan but too many of you hate the guy because he doesnt do what you want the team to do.

And in with those 2 "chances to win the SB" he couldn't even get to the NFC Title game. And got a bit lucky he even won that first game in 2014 against Detroit.

I don't hate him. I just don't want a coach anymore that has a paucity of postseason success and has shown time and time again to come up small in big games.

We've been over that ground many times. I don't fault the guy for getting bad teams to 8-8. 2015 we all know what the issues were.

But not every coach can put together a 12+ win season. Those don't happen by accident, and they don't happen in spite of the head coach. Garrett's done it twice.

Our issues are with talent, and not with the staff

And yet you are claiming he is responsible for that talent. I mean when you give him credit for "building" those two 12+ win teams you've wanted people to credit Garrett for his role in roster building.

Now all of a sudden, when things go wrong, Garrett gets a pass because the issue isn't coaching......... it's the talent. You can't have it both ways.

Marvin Lewis has a 12 win season. You want him as a head coach? Why would you? We have the NFC version of him as our head coach.

Yeah the issue was Garrett. Weeden went to Houston and swiftly won games. Let me guess, the Texans had superior offensive weapons.

And a lot of bad coaches have great years. Wade had a 13 win season and an 11 win season. So what? Do your puppet job a little better than this.

Oh, I hear you. Don't think you're any more interested in playoff wins than I am.

And I'll say again, team's lose playoff games for more reasons than coaching. We've lost ours because we can't defend Aaron Rodgers properly. And that's because the defensive personnel is limited.

He is largely responsible for talent. Finding, but especially developing.

And acquiring talent in Dallas is difficult. It's difficult anywhere, but in Dallas there's also the Jerry tax to be paid. They haven't been good enough. But they have been better than most, and they have been less dysfunctional about it than I think they'd be under most coaches because of the Garrett/McClay/Stephen Jones partnership.

And since we know the issue is the defensive talent, is like to see that addressed before blowing the whole thing up and starting over.

the Gents spending a fortune on defense actually worked. All those players have played well.

The issues with them are all on offense. The Oline misses and no RB. It sucks as Reese has been the main culprit in all of this as he is awful. Now they might get better. Not good for us.

But hasn't there been multiple changes to the staff, even at the coordinator level, while Garrett has been head coach?

Wouldn't that indicate a staff problem, or why make changes otherwise?

Yeah. He blew the DC hire, twice. That's on him, and it's part of the reason the defense was terrible in 2011-2013.

Aside from that, we've been very stable with the coaching staff. A few position coaches leaving or retiring, but for the NFL, it's been very stable in Dallas for once.

I remember the same homers "laughing" at the Eagles after they're wised up and fired Chip Kelly. He's ruined them for years!

Two years later? Now who's laughing?

Meanwhile we will stay the course and maybe win a playoff game every other year and next thing you know Dak and the gang will be retiring.........

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Half of us already sound like Grandpa's around here talking about the "glory days" of Cowboys football when we were winners! Lol.

Once upon a time this football team cared about winning.....it was a lonnnggg time ago back in the 1990's......we traveled through a dark dark forest......

Cowboys fans longingly watch arch-villain Mara holding his FO accountable like disillusioned poor kids pressing their faces against the display window of a toy shop knowing that Santa isn't real.

And stability is great.......if you are consistently getting positive results. Stability is great in New England, PIttsburgh, Seattle, Green Bay.

It's not so good when results consistently fail to meet expectations. Or when you follow up a good regular season with playoff failures followed by bad regular seasons the year after.

I have stuck with Garrett longer than most people around here. But it's time to get off this roller coaster. A legitimate argument may be that Jerry hires somebody worse. I worry about that too. Not interest in having Houston Nutt as a coach.

But it is a chance I am now willing to take.

It helps when you have a patsy like the Dolphins who you can continually fleece to improve your roster and get better draft picks.

It surely doesn't hurt.

And how nice it must be to sucker someone else and not be the sucker.

Exactly. Even if he's screws up the next hire, that would be changed in two or three years, not like this Neverending Story of disappointment.
