Giants, game 1

1st, game 1 can be so unpredictable, and I won’t take away anything as a good or bad sign [too much, lol]. Such as if the RB is not as good as what we want, doesn’t mean it will suck. Nor if we run for 200 yards, does not mean it will do that every week.

This will be a tough game as they usually are. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we control the game either.

Cowboys Offense:
Only question is how will the running game be. I don’t think their D will be up to taking a pounding to our OL, so Romo should have a good game, and I think overall our RB’s will have some production.
I think our OL wears them down later in the game. So we may see some long runs at that time. I don’ t have a specific yards total, but if we get 150 on the ground, I will consider that a success, heck, even 125, as long as the passing game is working also.

Cowboys Defense:
We should put some pressure on Eli, and hopefully will create some turnovers. My concern is without Ro and Hardy, IF that causes less pressure, and the LB’s not doing their jobs, or at least who fills in. How does that affect the secondary without Scandrick, and the reshuffling of that position without him. I know they should be fine. But it is the 1st game too.
How will our run defense be, that is the key to me. They usually seem to get a few long runs on us. Contain that, then contain Beckham. Roll coverage to where he is.

Giants Offense:
Depends on Eli, if he is pressured early and gets hit early, then he gets out of his comfort zone, starts pressing, and will make mistakes. I don’t think they are as good as the east coast lovers say they are. Beckham is their only true threat. And I think he will showboat too much, and drops one of those one handed attempts.

Giants Defense:
Without JPP, Beason, what do they have. A supposedly improved secondary. But we been hearing that for 5 years. If our OL lives up to its billing, which it should, then we should wear them down as I mentioned above. But they always seem to get lucky with some break out player. Not as an all pro, but just against us.

ST’s:
We better show it was just TC players no longer with the team that made us look awful. And now they have our proven best ST’s player in Harris. We better be prepared. Yes Harris regressed some last year, but it does not mean he can’t bounce back, or just had a down year. It happens.
This is what worries me the most. Not our running game.

Scary game because this is the REAL preseason for everybody. Teams really don't establish themselves until week 3 or 4. That means anything is possible.

However, I'm not that concerned on this one. Dallas' offensive line against the Giants defensive line is a big advantage to the Cowboys. And the pass rush should be on Eli all night, even without Hardy, because of the Giants' o-line problems.

I expect the Cowboys to go up and down the field all game on the Giants. New York wants to play conservative in this, but they'll get behind and have to abandon that. That's when the pass rush becomes effective big time.

But week one is always strange. We'll see.

Dallas opened as a favorite and the line has only gotten larger.

I may be overly confident, but I think we kick the crap out of this Giants team. If we don't, I'll start to have real concerns about week 2 against the Eagles. As well as our offseason has gone, the Giants' has gone about as badly as any team not named San Francisco.

I expect a hard game but I also expect the Cowboys to show they are the dominate team in the NFC East. Even without Hardy and McClain I think the Cowboys have the players in the front 7 to get the job done

Dallas 34, Giants 20

I'll echo your thoughts and raise you...

Dez will get his bc he wants to be the best WR on the field (not OB) and he's been itching to get back on the field. He'll have atleast one TD.

Dallas and the RBBC want to prove doubters wrong. I think the trio will put up 130+ yards and add a "dirty yard" TD.

Romo won't start off rusty like last year's first game.. He may not get 300 yards, but I believe he throws 3TDs including one to Gavin Escabar.

And Garrett will allow Bailey a warmer field goal

The Defense will be swarming and turn overs will be the By product giving Dallas a short field most of the game, allowing the run game to get plenty of opportunities to silence the critics..

Prediction: Dallas 34- Giants 20.

Note: I was on the fence, but my gut keeps telling me Randle will break off a long run for another TD.

I think it will be a tight game for a while but by late 3rd and 4th we'll pull away. These division games are almost never blow outs. I hope it is but the Giants will get some lucky fluke play or two to stay in the game like they always do.

Good review. I too think Harris will stand out in this game as any player playing their former team. I know some people write this off but I also think Victor Cruz playing or not will make a difference by a TD. Beckham is hard enough to cover but with both, Eli will be a better QB and this may open up their run game. I think the Giants will try to establish a run game early and will ultimately will pass over 45 attempts when their run game is stifled. It always seems like they get a lot of PI calls and they will be a tough opponent coming out of the gate as always. We have to stick with the run to be successful. If Romo passes under 30 attempts, we win.

We should hang 30 on them easy.

Who knows if our defense can keep them under that. The Giants will get their share of big plays on the offensive side of the ball...limiting and responding to them will determine the final score.

I just see it as different now. I know that games past have been shootouts, but based on the direction of both of these teams, I think we're going up while they're going down and I expect the week one results to support that.

Don't judge much on this game. Yes, Dallas should win, but even if by a field goal, it'll be because of things that can be quickly cleaned up. That goes for all 32 teams for the most part.

I don't judge style until October, and this year with the late start to the season, I'll judge by mid October what is really here.

Offense: will we be able to run the ball in an effective manner that allows the total offensive scheme to work as intended?

Defense: will our new-look pass rush be able to cause enough problems for the opposing offensive line and quarterback to help our back units (backers, DBs) make plays on the ball carrier or ball?

Special Teams: will we please just not **** up?

My three questions that I will be trying to answer for myself as I watch on Sunday Night.

What is our record the last (say 5-10 years) opening at home vs a NFC East opponent in a prime time game?

Too lazy to look it up but for some reason I keep thinking it is not very good.

You know me, I'm judge mental by nature!

;)

Having said that, I expect this team to get off to a flying start in week one against the Giants. If they don't, I think they're ripe for criticism of how they've handled this preseason. Have they done a great job in avoiding injuries? Absolutely they have. But if they start the season looking slow or sloppy and with a loss somehow against a team like New York, none of that health was worth it because they're unprepared.

The preseason strategy was one of confidence (some would say arrogance) in a beliefs that they have a great team and don't need to show it in the preseason. If you're doing that, you'd better be right, and you'd better be prepared. Prepared to beat a team you obviously outclass across the board.

If that doesn't happen, I think there will be plenty of criticism and it will be justified, and many fans will be worried about a suddenly huge game against the Eagles in week 2.

This Giants team is exponentially worse than last year's SF team, and we had a rusty Romo at the helm, and still had a shot to win.

And that's why I expect a beat down in our favor. If we should somehow struggle or heaven forbid lose, this fan will be in full panic mode going into the week two game against the Eagles. I see no reason why this should be a real contest.

The line on this game is Dallas favored by 5.5 with the over/under at 50. I say we cover the line and will go under 50

I think we still could struggle. First game jitters.

I think we'll score a TD per quarter, maybe 5 total (one on defense). 35-17. They'll get a touchdown in each half and add a field goal early.
