Giants vs. Steelers (TJ Watt sack on 3rd play of the game)

I think too many of you are giving too much credit to Watt and the Giants O line. Flowers sucks as does the Giants other tackle. Our D line will look above average against the Giants. There will be much tougher tests (ie the Raiders).

It's just preseason but if taco got two sacks this place would be going crazy.

If our player shines in preseason, we all say he's gonna be player. Look at him already flashing and showing his skills.

If our player sucks, the default argument is that it's just preseason.

If our player does good in camp, we all say see he's a player. Already doing good stuff

If our player sucks in camp,we say give it some time. He's only a rookie guys. Comeon.

The real dilemma is what happens when they both suck AND shine in pre-season....

If Watt goes up 2-0 for sacks on Taco in the regular season, then I will start to rue. Until then, I don't care.....

FWIW, I really didn't want either of those two players once Takk was gone. I would have been happy with Ramczyk at that point......beef up the line even more!

Jason Taylor who was just inducted to HOF played at that weight in 4-3. How did that turn out? I think we need to stop typecasting players and just draft them on their ability to get to QB.
Comparing people to hall of famers is often not constructive....

The team went away from Watt as a 4-3 DE because he didn't fit the prototype AND he had limited tape at the position. It was all projection. But hey maybe you think it makes sense to project him on a hall of famer? I think most scouts are more conservative...

And remember I wanted Watt.

yup that's the first play I saw was a sack - I almost blew chunks - yea but how many times was he in the back field

I was not a big fan of him

but would have taken him over taco

I'll truly enjoy reading all of the excuses from the overly faithful downplaying Watt and trying to prop up Charlton.

Yea i mean it's pretty obvious we can't evaluate DL. Charlton ceiling is 6 sacks a year. Tapper is a bust , the 4th rounder 2 years ago out of Purdue was a bust , Gregory is a bust. Lawrence has 9 sacks in 3 years...borderline disappointment. Collins seems solid if you take enough flyers eventually you'll get one.

1st sack he got stood up and the QB basically ran into him after he stepped to the left. The second was a missed assignment and was untouched to the QB...

He did beat his man neatly on that first one, though.

He's going to be a pretty good player at some point. I liked him better than Taco, too, and still do, but I get why we went with Taco, and I don't have a huge issue with it. Watt is a better fit in PIT than he'd be here, anyway.

And the stuff about switching back to the Giants 3-4 makes me want to vomit.

ROFL. Just because "some" (Taylor, Ware, etc) people are capable of playing both, doesn't mean most can. In fact, most cannot. Most 3-4 OLB are too small / weak / lack the leverage to play against a LT on running downs and most 4-3 DEs do not have the speed and agility to play as a 3-4 OLB at 280lbs+. There is a reason most 3-4 OLBs are 250lbs+ and 4-3 DEs are 280lbs+
