Us it that inconceivable that JJ is being tight lipped for once? Never mind ....

who says he is tight lipped

Jerry Jones on Jaylon Smith: "I'm not ruling out that he could get on the field this year."

Smith and Gregory coming back?

Oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan they could be HUGE for a nice lil playoff run. Get a few weeks of regular season play in, and tune up for the playoffs.

I think a lot of people just think that once the nerve fires, it's game on. I had a pinched nerve in my neck for 9 months while I fought with workman's comp (hurt it in an attic fire). Turn my head to the right and my left arm would go numb.

I finally was able to get the surgery done to fuse C4 and C5 and good as new, except nothing had changed. The first month after surgery I was really depressed, absolutely no progress. I wrongly assumed after a few weeks I would start seeing improvement but it wasn't like that. There was never any day to day progress or even week to week, but after a couple of months looking back I could see that I had made some progress. It seemed like more of a month to month thing for the nerve to heal after being pinched for so long. It took about 8 months for the numbness to go totally away.

My point being is I don't think he woke up one day and the nerve was firing. I think it has been so gradual that you can't even describe your progress. Listening to him and a couple of reports I think he has made progress and it has been enough time for him to look back and clearly see he is progressing. It's frustrating really because everybody that sees you wants to know how you are progressing and you really can't see it on a day to day basis.

I know we had different injuries but nerves don't respond the same way other body parts do. Everything I have heard really sounds encouraging and I think people inside the organization believe he will play this year, but it's not going to be a foregone conclusion. I do believe the nerve is firing to an extent.

Thanks for sharing.
Interesting if he is really making progress.
Is there a neurologist in the group?

BTW, stop smoking in the attic lol

Why would the Cowboys announce anything about Jaylon Smith until they have to? To satisfy the folks on this forum? I bet there are few, if any, teams that think Smith will play this year or ever. I say let it be a surprise when the team makes the announcement a few days before he plays.

Could you imagine if we get him for the playoff push and run? That could make us an instant Super Bowl contender going into the playoffs IMO.

A guy that's never played a down in the NFL will make Dallas a sb contender?

I would agree that in Smith case even if he could get back on the field this season it would be asking a lot for him to play great ball given the fact he has not played a down since the injury. To expect a rookie to come in with no camp or pre season and to be up to speed is asking a lot. I'll be happy if he can but my expectation for him this year is very limited.

He is on the NFI list, I think he has to begin practicing by november 7th and has to be on the 53 by nov 28th or he would have to be shelved. We will know soon enough.

Well is he not already practicing?
Or does it have to be with the team?
So Nov 28 is the deadline, I guess?

Just hoping Gregory misses being part of a group of young guys who are winning, and decides he'd rather play than get high.

I know he's predicted this before, but I believe that was in August. That his opinion is consistent in mid-October is probably good (better than worse!). Had dinner with Jaylon Smith, discussed the knee, came away still thinking Week 14-15 return.

What's Brandt heard on Jaylon Smith's return from injury?
Barry Horn: Did Jaylon [Smith] give you any insight into his knee [when they had dinner together recently]?

Gil Brandt: He's feeling good. I think that he could come back later on this season, maybe the 13th-14th game of the season. Now he's doing everything. He tells me he's cutting on it and so forth.
Sounds like he comes back to help Dallas Win the Super Bowl this Year !!!!

Highly highly unlikely for Smith and Gregory to come back and both play well this year.
Actually in that scenario, the 2 biggest weakness of the team have been solved.
That would make us serious contenders for this year and the next few years...
