I didn't like him for the price it was going to cost us. But I did think he was a pretty special player at the time. I just don't like paying outrageous salaries to players with no upside.

I agree. The only exception to that, IMO, is when that player is like a Deion Sanders going to a team like the 95 Cowboys. When he can be the difference in a championship and if it's relatively short term.

I will give a little credit to Jerry, but not all that much. Let's remember that Jerry did make a long-term offer to Spencer this Spring at market value for DE's (around $7.5 million per year). Thankfully, Spencer said no and forced Jerry to franchise him. But for Spencer's inflated view of his own value, we'd be saddled with his long-term contract at $7.5 milion per. So really, Jerry got lucky. And I give absolutely NO CREDIT to our medical staff. How is it that with all the technology available, the medical staff had no idea until a week ago that Spencer could have a potentially career-threatening knee condition? If I were Jerry, I'd be pretty pissed that I spent $10 million this year and no one from the medical staff apparently flagged this. I allow that I am not a doctor and this was something that no one could have diagnosed before a week ago, but I doubt it.

You cannot credit someone for something they could not have foreseen. If Spencer and his agent had lesser demands (e.g., 5 years/30 mill with 12 of that guaranteed) we'd have that long term deal right now

I credit Jerry for not caving in and paying what the player was asking for , which was more than fair market value.
This is a good first step for Jerry !

How is spending 10 million on him this year a good business decision? Good decision would of been a sign and trade or just letting him walk last summer...

how can you fore see injuries. I don't believe in fortune telling thingy. JJones avoided the long term contract and thats good business.

I knew he was an irrelevant player who would provide zero impact to his new team. I knew that his next contract would be one of the worst in sports. Anybody who shared a board with me at the time knows that I knew. This isn't hindsight here.

Your GM tried his best to make sure that ginormous mistake was in Dallas. Reports were he offered more than the Eagles. He just has no clue whatsoever of what he's doing. To me this Spencer situation is the same thing.

You have no idea what JJOnes tried to do. Other then what was reported in the news. His new defensive coordinator asked if he could keep
Spencer on the team and Jones did But not at the numbers the Spencer team was asking. Good for Jones

I wanted spencer signed big time. I was a huge fan of him. Im glad it didnt happen though. He was our best player on defense last year and a top 3 for years here. But we already got screwed our of 11 mil and hes older and has a bad knee. Its time to let him walk.
